The objective of this study is to develop mixture proportioning approach of crack controlled lightweight foamed concrete without using high-pressure steam curing processes, as an alternative to autoclaved lightweight concrete blocks (class 0.6 specified in KS). To control thermal cracks owing to hydration heat of cementitious materials, 30% ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) was used as a partial replacement of ordinary portland cement (OPC). Furthermore, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyamid (PA) fibers were added to improve the crack resistance of foamed concrete. The use of 30% GGBS reduced the peak value of hydration production rate measured from isothermal tests by 28% and the peak temperature of foamed concrete measured from semi-adiabatic hydration tests by 9%. Considering the compressive strength development, internal void structure, and flexural strength of the lightweight foamed concrete, the optimum addition amount of PVA or PA fibers could be recommended to be $0.6kg/m^3$, although PA fiber slightly preferred to PVA fiber in enhancing the flexural strength of foamed concrete.
This study describes to analyze the pressure drop characteristics for the air-particle flow in pneumatic coal powder conveying system and to proper design of the orifice located in the system to enhance combustion efficiency in furnace of the coal-fired power plant. Usually the system consists of the straight type pipe, the curved type pipe and the elbow, which cause increase of the pressure drop. In this study, the pressure drop arised in the system with straight and curved type pipes is analyzed with interactions of motion of air flow and particles. It is realized that total pressure drop increases with increasing of the pipe length and the angle of curved type pipe due to friction loss of air and particles in the system. The program for analysis of the pressure drop and optimum design of the orifice size for air flow control in the system is developed. The result is also compared with the existing system.

ZnO nanostructures have a lot of interest for decades due to its varied applications such as light-emitting devices, power generators, solar cells, and sensing devices etc. To get the high performance of these devices, the factors of nanostructure geometry, spacing, and alignment are important. So, Patterning of vertically- aligned ZnO nanowires are currently attractive. However, many of ZnO nanowire or nanorod fabrication methods are needs high temperature, such vapor phase transport process, metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy, thermal evaporation, pulse laser deposition and thermal chemical vapor deposition. While hydrothermal process has great advantages-low temperature (less than $100^{\circ}C$), simple steps, short time consuming, without catalyst, and relatively ease to control than as mentioned various methods. In this work, we investigate the dependence of ZnO nanowire alignment and morphology on si substrate using of nanosphere template with various precursor concentration and components via hydrothermal process. The brief experimental scheme is as follow. First synthesized ZnO seed solution was spun coated on to cleaned Si substrate, and then annealed $350^{\circ}C$ for 1h in the furnace. Second, 200nm sized close-packed nanospheres were formed on the seed layer-coated substrate by using of gas-liquid-solid interfacial self-assembly method and drying in vaccum desicator for about a day to enhance the adhesion between seed layer and nanospheres. After that, zinc oxide nanowires were synthesized using a low temperature hydrothermal method based on alkali solution. The specimens were immersed upside down in the autoclave bath to prevent some precipitates which formed and covered on the surface. The hydrothermal conditions such as growth temperature, growth time, solution concentration, and additives are variously performed to optimize the morphologies of nanowire. To characterize the crystal structure of seed layer and nanowires, morphology, and optical properties, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) studies were investigated.
Although applying self-consolidating concrete (SCC) in many modern structures is an inevitable fact, the high consumption of cement in its mixing designs has led to increased production costs and adverse environmental effects. In order to find economically viable sources with environmentally friendly features, natural pozzolan pumice and blast furnace slag in 10-50% of replacement binary designs have been investigated for experiments on the properties of fresh concrete, mechanical properties, and durability. As a natural pozzolan, pumice does not require advanced equipment to prepare for consumption and only needs to be powdered. Pumice has been the main focus of this research because of simple preparation. Also to validate the results, in addition to the control specimens of each design, fly ash as a known powder has been evaluated. Moreover, ternary mixes of pumice and silica fume were investigated to enhance the obtained results of binary mixes. It was concluded that pumice and slag powders indicated favorable performance in the high percentage of replacement.

The RC buildings which are constructed on the seaside are followed by KBC(2016) to achieve the minimization of durability damage. To control the corrosion of the reinforcing steel bar by salt attack, W/C should be under 0.4 and specified concrete strength is higher than 35MPa in the concrete/building construction standard specification. Even though it has been proved that the concrete mixed with mineral admixture such as blast furnace slag and fly ash etc. have high strength and durability in previous researches, the beneficial informations are not applied to the codes. Ready-mixed concretes which usually include the admixtures in Busan were tested to certify the salt attack durability. In the same specified concrete strength, remarkable salt attack durability was evaluated in comparison to OPC. For economical and reliable durability design, chloride ion diffusivity should be measured before applying to new building construction.
In the era of building engineering the intensification of Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is world-shattering magnetism. It has lot of rewards over ordinary concrete i.e., enrichment in production, cutback in manpower, brilliant retort to load and vibration along with improved durability. In the present study, the mechanical strength of CM-2 (SCC containing 10% of rice husk ash (RHA) as cement replacement and 600 grams of glass fibers per cubic meter) was investigated at various dosages of cement replacement by fly ash (FA) and GGBS. A total of 17 SCC mixtures including two control SCC mixtures (CM-1 and CM-2) were developed for investigating fresh and hardened properties in which, ten ternary cementitious blends of SCC by blending OPC+RHA+FA, OPC+RHA+GGBS and five quaternary cementitious blends (OPC+RHA+FA+GGBS) at different replacement dosages of FA and GGBS were developed with reference to CM-2. For constant water-cement ratio (0.42) and dosage of SP (2.5%), the addition of glass fibers (600 grams/m3) in CM-1 i.e., CM-2 shows lower workability but higher mechanical strength. While fly ash based ternary blends (OPC+RHA+FA) show better workability but lower mechanical strength as FA content increases in comparison to GGBS based ternary blends (OPC+RHA+GGBS) on increasing GGBS content. The pattern for mixtures appeared to exhibit higher workablity as that of the concentration of FA+GGBS rises in quaternary blends (OPC+RHA+FA+GGBS). A decrease in compressive strength at 7-days was noticed with an increase in the percentage of FA and GGBS as cement replacement in ternary and quaternary blended mixtures with respect to CM-2. The highest 28-days compressive strength (41.92 MPa) was observed for mix QM-3 and the lowest (33.18 MPa) for mix QM-5.

Palm oil fuel ash (POFA) is a newly emerging pozzolanic material having high amount of silica content. Various forms of POFA were used in cement-based materials (CBMs) in replacement of cement in different dosages of low and high volume. Although, there are many researches on POFA to be used in concrete and mortar, however, this material was not practically used in the construction industry. Engineers and designers need to be confident to use any new developed materials by knowing all engineering properties at short and long terms. As durability concern, concrete pH value is one of the most important properties. Portland cement produces are alkaline initially, however, it may be reduced due to aging and its components. It is believed that by incorporation of supplementary cementitious materials in CBMs the pH value reduces due to utilization of Ca(OH)2 in pozzolanic reaction. This study is the first attempts to understand the pH value of mortars containing up to 30% POFA under different curing conditions and its changes with time. The results were also compared with the pH of ground granulated ballast furnace slag (GGBFS) and fly ash (FA) content mortars. In addition, the compressive strength of different mortars under different curing conditions were also studied. The results showed that the pH value of control mix (without cementitious materials) was more than all the blended cement mortars indifferent curing conditions at the same ages. However, there was a reducing trend in the pH value of all mortar mixes containing POFA.
Purpose: The characteristics of oxidized titanium (Ti) surfaces varied according to treatment conditions such as duration time and temperature. Thermal oxidation can change Ti surface characteristics, which affect many cellular responses such as cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. Thus, this study was conducted to evaluate the surface characteristics and cell response of thermally treated Ti surfaces. Methods: The samples were divided into 4 groups. Control: machined smooth titanium (Ti-S) was untreated. Group I: Ti-S was treated in a furnace at $300^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Group II: Ti-S was treated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Group III: Ti-S was treated at $750^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. A scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscope, and X-ray diffraction were used to assess surface characteristics and chemical composition. The water contact angle and surface energy were measured to assess physical properties. Results: The titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) thickness increased as the treatment temperature increased. Additional peaks belonging to rutile $TiO_2$ were only found in group III. The contact angle in group III was significantly lower than any of the other groups. The surface energy significantly increased as the treatment temperature increased, especially in group III. In the 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol- 2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay, after 24 hours of incubation, the assessment of cell viability showed that the optical density of the control had a higher tendency than any other group, but there was no significant difference. However, the alkaline phosphatase activity increased as the temperature increased, especially in group III. Conclusions: Consequently, the surface characteristics and biocompatibility increased as the temperature increased. This indicates that surface modification by thermal treatment could be another useful method for medical and dental implants.

This paper investigated the plant and raw material of the ready-mixed concrete company which could supply to the second Lotte World on Pusan. the results were summarized as following. Almost plants were mainly using Twin shaft mixer which was 210m$^3$/hr and horizontal type. There was different the number of admixture silos at each plants, and they were separated by types. The mixtures mainly consisted of the ordinary portland cement, fly ash and blast furnace slag. For favorable quality control, each materials had to carry from same factories, and the monitering standard for quality control should be prepared. The coarse aggregates were used with many different producing districts, so they were only used from Y caused by exclusion of quality difference. The crushed, washed and river sands were generally used as fine aggregates, so the fine aggregates which could be possible to supply stable quality were chosen. This study used Poly Carbonic Acid Admixture which was developed to satisfy maintenance of performance till 2 hours and 10MPa at 15 hours.

Recently, the interest and demand for large-scale buildings and skyscrapers have been on the rise, and the performance of concrete is an area of high priority. Securing 'mass concrete and high strength concrete' is very important as a key construction technology. For high strength concrete, the high heat of hydration takes place inside the concrete because of the vitality of hydration in cement due to the large amount of powder, and leads to problems such as an increase of thermal stress due to the temperature difference with the outside, which results in cracks and slump loss. For this reason, measures to solve these problems are needed. This study aims to reduce the hydration heat of high strength concrete to control the hydration heat of mass concrete and high strength concrete, by replacing the type of admixture, The purpose of this study is to control the hydration heat of high strength concrete and mass concrete. Our idea for this purpose is to apply not only the types and contents of admixture but also incorporation mixing water to ice-flake. As a result of the test, the use of blast furnace slag and fly ash as admixture, and the use of ice-flake as mixing water can improve the liquidity of concrete and reduce slump loss. Significantly dropping the maximum temperature will contribute greatly to reducing cracks due to hydration heat in mass concrete and high strength concrete, and improve quality.
