응집침전에 의한 제철공장 냉각수질향상 (Improvement of Cooling Water Quality by Coagulation and Sedimentation in Steel Mill)

  • This study was initiated to improve the cooling water quality by chemical coagulation and sedimentation in steel mills. Due to the inefficient flocculation in the settling tanks of blast furnace cooling water systems, the solid particles in the cooling water overflow accumulate and clog the cooling system. To protect the cooling water system from such fouling, proper flocculants must be continuously used. Laboratory tests were performed for the indirect cooling water system of a plate mill. The batch test in the gas scrubbing cooling water system of a blast furnace showed that the proposed coagulant was more effective for the improvement of coagulation and sedimentation than the existing one. During the tests, cationic flocculants were more effective than use of only an anionic flocculant. The suggested combination of anionic and cationic flocculants can probably improve the turbidity removal efficiency of the cooling water. Proper control of the overflow rate by the designed residence time would help turbidity removal efficiency in the settling tank. In addition, the settling can be enhanced by adopting rapid and slow mixing alternatively. Scale problems in blast furnace cooling water system were reduced to some extent by efficient settling.

  • In this study, modified catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) method was applied to control the CNTs (carbon nanotubes) growth. Since titanium (Ti) substrate and iron (Fe) catalysts react one another and form a new phase ($Fe_2TiO_5$) above $700^{\circ}C$, the decrease of CNT yield above $800^{\circ}C$ where methane gas decomposes is inevitable under common CCVD method. Therefore, we synthesized CNTs on the Ti substrate by dividing the tube furnace into two sections (left and right) and heating them to different temperatures each. The reactant gas flew through from the end of the right tube furnace while the Ti substrate was placed in the center of the left tube furnace. When the CNT growth temperature was set $700/950^{\circ}C$ (left/right), CNTs with high yield were observed. Also, by examining the micro-structure of CNTs of $700/950^{\circ}C$, it was confirmed that CNTs show the bamboo-like structure.

고로슬라그의 이용에 관한 연구 (II) (천연원료를 이용한 Slag-Ceramics) (A Study on the Utilization of Blast-Furnace Slag (II) (Slag-Ceramics with Natural Minerals))

  • A glass-ceramics based on blast-furnace slag, with some additives to the theoretical composition in order to control properties of mother glass and the heat treatment conditions, has been investigated. The raw materials in this study were blast-furnace slag, serpentine, feldspar and quartz as mother glass ingredients. Titanium dioxide and chromite were used as the nucleating agents. Batch compositions of the prepared glasses and ceraming conditions were found by trial and error method. The optimum conditions were confirmed by analyzing several measured physical properties such as density change during heat treatment, microhardness of slag-ceramics prepared, viscosity change of glass at heat treatment temperatures, nucleation density change, dilatometric properties, differential thermal analysis, identification of the grown crystal and crystal sizes. The batch composition feasible to prepare slag-ceramics was 40% of blast-furnace slag, 25% of serpentine, 18% of feldspar and 17% of silica sand. Three percent titanium dioxide and 1% chromite of the mother glass were added as nucleating agents. The ceraming conditions under which the slag-ceramics having considerably good properties can be developed found as: "The glass was heated at 75$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours for nucleation, and the temperature was raised up to 1, 00$0^{\circ}C$ with a rate of 0.75$^{\circ}C$/min for crystal growth.owth.

페로니켈 슬래그 미분말이 ASR에 미치는 영향 (Effect on Ferronickel Slag Powder in ASR)

  • 기존의 페로니켈 슬래그에 관한 연구는 대부분 골재 및 잔골재로서의 가능성에 초점이 맞추어져 수행되었으나 본 연구는 페로니켈 슬래그 미분말의 콘크리트 혼화재로서의 가능성에 주목하여 수행하였다. Fly ash, 고로슬래그 및 FPS 등을 각각 10 %씩 혼입한 콘크리트에 대해 미국의 ASTM C 1260을 준용하여 반응성을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 대조군과 비교해 Fly ash는 8.43 %, 고로슬래그 미분말은 14.46 % 팽창률이 감소했지만, 페로니켈 슬래그 미분말은 49.40 %의 팽창률 감소세를 보였다. 골재의 반응성 억제 측면에서 충분히 Fly ash, 고로슬래그 등 기존의 혼화재를 대체할 수 있음을 확인하였으나, SEM 분석결과 수많은 에트린자이트(ettringite)가 생성되었고 이것이 콘크리트에 어떤 영향을 주는지에 대한 추가적인 연구가 필요하다.

  • Reclaimer in the raw material yard is being used to dig iron and coal so that they transfer to main blast furnace. A newly automatic system was developed and tested in the raw yard of Kwangyang iron making.   • 본 논문에서는 유리 용해로의 온도 제어 문제에 있어서, 퍼지 이론의 응용 방식을 제시한다. 유리용해로의 동특성을 분석하고, 이에 적합하도륵 기존 고전적인 제어기와 퍼지 로직을 결합하는 알고리듬을 제시한다. 제시된 제어기는 실제 용해로의 생산공정에 효율적으로 적용되었다.

  • In this paper, a boiler control system for thermal power plant is configured. The boiler control system for thermal power plant is largely composed of an ABC(Automatic Boiler Control) system and a MBC(Mill Burner Control) system. ABC system controls analog process values, so almost all analog control logic is dealt with in ABC system. On the other hand, MBC system relates to sequence control logic such as MFT logic, Furnace Purge, Safety related logic. Advanced control systems made from advanced countries deal with an ABC system and MBC system in a distributed control system. In this paper, we adopt a DCS as an ABC system and adopt a PLC system as a MBC system to configure a boiler control system for thermal power plant using domestic control system. Finally the validity of the configured boiler control system is shown via simulation using digital simulator for boiler system in thermal power plant.

맥동연소기술이 접목된 복사관 버너에서의 NOX 배출 특성 ([ NOX ] Emission Characteristics in Radiant Tube Burner with Oscillating Combustion Technology)

  • An experimental study was carried out in a small-scale test furnace to investigate the performance, such as $NO_X$ emission, enhancement of heat transfer, uniformity of temperature, and etc, of oscillating combustion applied in radiant tube burner system. A premixed type burner and a cyclic oscillating control valve were designed and used. The fuel, used commercial LPG in this study, was only oscillated using the cyclic oscillating control valve. As oscillating combustion was applied in radiant tube burner system, it is found that $NO_X$ emission, compared to no oscillation, could be reduced by 38% at $90{\sim}120rpm\;(1.5{\sim}2.0Hz)$. However, as oscillating frequency was increased, effect of abatement of $NO_X$ emission is gradually reduced. From the measurement of furnace heating time from $100^{\circ}C$ to $720^{\circ}C$, heat transfer is increased by 11.5% at the oscillation of 120rpm. Temperature distribution of radiant tube surface is more uniform at oscillation of 120rpm with decrease of the peak temperature and increase of low temperature. From these results, it is confirmed that oscillating combustion is useful in radiant tube burner system.

  • Oxy-coal combustion for $CO_2$ capture in coal power plants entails a mode switching from air-firing to oxyfiring. In this study, procedure of the mode switching was investigated and discussed through experiments in pilot scale facilities: (1) a 0.3 $MW_{th}$ furnace with a vertical single burner and a FGR(Flue Gas Recirculation) system (2) a 1 $MW_{th}$ furnace with horizontal 4 burners and a FGR system. Principle of the mode switching was established and performed with control of FD fan, FGR fan, ID fan and oxygen flow rates. We have found that equivalence ratio in the oxy-firing mode should be increased more than that in the air-firing to achieve stable mode switching. Control of FD, ID and FGR fans should be performed carefully in the mode switching, in the sense of complete combustion and flame attachment. Moisture contents in the ash and the flue gas recycled to the primary oxidizer stream should be removed to prevent condensation, corrosion and duct clogging.

  • High flowing concrete has not spread whole in the normal concrete structure, because it requires special quality control technique. And recently owing to the lack of natural resources and reinforcement of environmental standard, the construction cost of cement is increased rapidly. Also rem icon industry has gone through various economical difficulty as the manufacture cost of concrete is increased. So, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the qualities of middle fluidity concrete using the fly-ash and portland blast-furnace slag cement in order to decrease the amount of cement and resolve the problem of the quality control of high flowing concrete and the manufacture cost. The results of this study show that it reduce the amount of addition of superplasticizer and develope properties of concrete to the use the fly-ash and portland blast-furnace slag cement.
