이질적인 분산 환경에서의 MPEG비디오의 파싱을 위한 스케줄링 알고리즘 (A Scheduling Algorithm for Parsing of MPEG Video on the Heterogeneous Distributed Environment)

  • 디지털 비디오의 사용이 보편화되면서 비디오에 대한 효율적인 브라우징이나 검색의 요구가 증가하게 되었다. 이러한 연산을 지원하기 위해서는 효과적인 비디오 인덱싱이 결랍되어야 한다. 비디오 인덱싱에서 가장 기초적인 단계의 하나는 비디오론 샷과 장면으로 파싱하는 것이다. 일반적으로, 비디오 파싱은 복잡한 연산을 필요로 하기 때문에, 기존의 단일 컴퓨터 환경에서는 많은 시간이 소요된다. 기존의 연구는 일정한 시간 동안에 각 슬레이브들에게 작업을 할당하는 라운드 로빈 방식을 사용하였다. 그러나 이러한 방식은 이질적인 환경에서는 적용하는데 어려움이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이질적인 분산 컴퓨팅 환경에서 사용가능한 병렬 파싱 알고리즘인 사이즈 적응적인 라운드 로빈과 동적으로 사이즈 적응적인 라운드 로빈 방식을 제안하였다 성능을 비교하기 위해 몇 가지 실험을 하였으며, 그 결과를 분석하였다.

  • Very decisive progress was made in advancing fundamental POL-IN-SAR theory and algorithm development during the past decade. This was accomplished with the aid of airborne & shuttle platforms supporting single -to-multi-band multi-modal POL-SAR and also some POL-IN-SAR sensor systems, which will be compared and assessed with the aim of establishing the hitherto not completed but required missions such as tomographic and holographic imaging. Because the operation of airborne test-beds is extremely expensive, aircraft platforms are not suited for routine monitoring missions which is better accomplished with the use drones or UAVs. Such unmanned aerial vehicles were developed for defense applications, however lacking the sophistic ation of implementing advanced forefront POL-IN-SAR technology. This shortcoming will be thoroughly scrutinized resulting in the finding that we do now need to develop most rapidly POL-IN-SAR drone-platform technology especially for environmental stress-change monitoring with a great variance of applications beginning with flood, bush/forest-fire to tectonic-stress (earth-quake to volcanic eruptions) for real-short-time hazard mitigation. However, for routine global monitoring purposes of the terrestrial covers neither airborne sensor implementation - aircraft and/or drones - are sufficient; and there -fore multi-modal and multi-band space-borne POL-IN-SAR space-shuttle and satellite sensor technology needs to be further advanced at a much more rapid phase. The existing ENVISAT with the forthcoming ALOSPALSAR, RADARSAT-2, and the TERRASAT will be compared, demonstrating that at this phase of development the fully polarimetric and polarimetric-interferometric modes of operation must be viewed and treated as preliminary algorithm verification support modes and at this phase of development are still not to be viewed as routine modes.

굽힘 하중을 받는 딤플형 내부구조 금속 샌드위치 판재의 최적설계변수의 수식화 및 파손선도 (Formulation of Optimal Design Parameters and Failure Map for Metallic Sandwich Plates with Inner Dimpled Shell Structure Subject to Bending Moment)

  • Metallic sandwich plates with inner dimpled shell subject to 3-point bending have been analyzed and then optimized for minimum weight. Inner dimpled shells can be easily fabricated by press or roll with high precision and bonded with same material skin sheets by resistance welding or adhesive bonding. Metallic sandwich plates with inner dimpled shell structure can be optimally designed for minimum weight subject to prescribed combination of bending and transverse shear loads. Fundamental findings for lightweight design are presented through constrained optimization. Failure responses of sandwich plates are predicted and formulated with an assumption of narrow sandwich beam theory. Failure is attributed to four kinds of mechanisms: face yielding, face buckling, dimple buckling and dimple collapse. Optimized shape of inner dimpled shell structure is a hemispherical shell to minimize weight without failure. It is demonstrated that bending stiffness of sandwich plate is 2 or 3 times larger than solid plates with the same strength. Failure mode boundaries and iso-strength lines dependent upon the geometry and yield strain of the material are plotted with respect to geometric parameters on the failure map. Because optimal parameters of maximum strength for given material weight can be selected from the map, analytic solutions for maximum strength are expressed as a function of only material property and proposed strength. These optimal parameters match well with numerical optimal parameters.

내용 기반 코딩을 위한 강력한 에지 연결에 의한 움직임 객체 자동 분할 (Automatic Moving Object Segmentation using Robust Edge Linking for Content-based Coding)

  • 움직임 객체 분할은 내용 기반 응용을 위하여 핵심적인 것이다. 다중 프레임 차이 누적은 프레임 차이 정보를 누적하여 움직임 에지를 검출한다. 검출된 움직임 에지와 분할될 현재 프레임의 에지를 비교하여 움직임 객체 에지를 생성한다. 그러나 실시간 카메라로 입력되는 연속 동영상의 움직임 객체 에지에는 객체 색과 배경 색의 일치 혹은 객체의 움직임 감소로 말미암아 에지 단락이 발생한다. 에지 단락은 매우 심각한 문제로서 움직임 객체의 영상 품질을 심하게 손상시키는 경우도 있다. 본 연구에서는 강건하고 포괄적인 에지 연결 알고리즘을 개발하여 이 문제를 해결하였다. 또한 본 연구에서는 자동 움직임 객체 분할 알고리즘을 개발하여 분명하고 깨끗한 모양의 움직임 객체를 자동으로 분할하였다. 개발한 알고리즘은 CIF 영상을 초당 30 프레임 이상 처리할 수 있다. 본 논문에서 개발한 알고리즘은 MPEG-4 내용 기반 코딩 시스템에 적용할 수 있다.

웜홀 라우팅을 지원하는 스타그래프 네트워크에서 전 포트 브로드캐스팅 알고리즘 (All-port Broadcasting Algorithms on Wormhole Routed Star Graph Networks)

  • 병렬 처리 시스템의 상호연결 네트워크로써 스타 그래프 구조간 그간 널리 사용되어 왔던 하이퍼규브에 비해 지름 및 차수 등의 특성에 우수한 성능을 보임으로 인해 최근 많은 연구자들의 관심을 받고 있다. 스타 그래프 네트워크에서 여러가지 통신문제들이 연구되어 지고 있는데 그러한 통신 문제 중 에 가장 기본이 될수있는 문제 중의 하나가 브로드캐스팅이다. 본 논문에서는 윕홀라우팅을 지원하는 스타 그래프 네트워크 시스템에서의 브로드캐스팅 문제를 다룬다. 윔홀라우팅을 사용하는 네트워크에서는 전송 노드간의 거리보다 전송 시 링크 충돌을 최소화하는 것이 전체 통신 시간을 줄이는 중요한 요소가 되는 데 본 논문에서는 스타 그래프 네트워크에서의 해밀 토니안 경로를 이용하여 링크 충돌이 없이 n 차원 스타 네트워크$([long_n n!]+1)$ 통신스텝이 전체 브로드캐스팅이 완료되는 알고리즘을 제시한다. 이는 이론 절 하한값 $([long_n n!]+1)$ 에 근접한 결과로 기존의 n-1 통신 스텝이 걸리는 알고리즘 보다 향상된 결과이다.

Long term structural health monitoring for old deteriorated bridges: a copula-ARMA approach

  • Long term structural health monitoring has gained wide attention among civil engineers in recent years due to the scale and severity of infrastructure deterioration. Establishing effective damage indicators and proposing enhanced monitoring methods are of great interests to the engineering practices. In the case of bridge health monitoring, long term structural vibration measurement has been acknowledged to be quite useful and utilized in the planning of maintenance works. Previous researches are majorly concentrated on linear time series models for the measurement, whereas nonlinear dependences among the measurement are not carefully considered. In this paper, a new bridge health monitoring method is proposed based on the use of long term vibration measurement. A combination of the fundamental ARMA model and copula theory is investigated for the first time in detecting bridge structural damages. The concept is applied to a real engineering practice in Japan. The efficiency and accuracy of the copula based damage indicator is analyzed and compared in different window sizes. The performance of the copula based indicator is discussed based on the damage detection rate between the intact structural condition and the damaged structural condition.

  • 본 논문의 목적은 하이데거의 해석학적 철학과 가다머 철학적 해석학 사이의 철학사상적 차이를 밝히는 것이다. 이들 두 사람의 해석학 사상의 차이는 1. 하이데거 철학의 출발점이 아리스토텔레스의 범주론 연구와 초월철학이었던 데 반해 가다머 철학의 출발점은 플라톤의 대화철학과 헤겔의 변증법이라는 사실에 있다. 2. 하이데거는 인문주의를 인간에 대한 근대적 이상의 변형이라 간주하는 반면, 가다머는 인문주의를 낭만주의의 인간 교육이상을 구체화하는 장소라고 이해한다. 3. 하이데거가 해석학적 순환을 논리적 순환구조와 실존적 순환구조로 이해한데 반해 가다머는 순환을 수사학적 전통으로부터 기인한 전통 해석학의 법칙으로서 전체와 부분사이의 순환으로 간주한다. 4. 하이데거가 플라톤 철학을 서양 실체 형이상학의 시작이며, 헤겔 철학을 주체 형이상학의 완성으로 간주하여 철학의 끝을 선언한데 반해, 가다머는 이해와 해석의 무한성을 주장한다. 5. 하이데거 존재론이 '죽음을 향해 있음'으로서 미래 지향적이고, 또한 종말론적이라면, 가다머 해석학은 언제나 그리고 이미 '텍스트를 향해 있음'으로서 과거 지향적이며, 무한 개방적이다.

Impact of spar-nacelle-blade coupling on the edgewise response of floating offshore wind turbines

  • The impact of spar-nacelle-blade coupling on edgewise dynamic responses of spar-type floating wind turbines (S-FOWT) is investigated in this paper. Currently, this coupling is not considered explicitly by researchers. First of all, a coupled model of edgewise vibration of the S-FOWT considering the aerodynamic properties of the blade, variable mass and stiffness per unit length, gravity, the interactions among the blades, nacelle, spar and mooring system, the hydrodynamic effects, the restoring moment and the buoyancy force is proposed. The aerodynamic loads are combined of a steady wind (including the wind shear) and turbulence. Each blade is modeled as a cantilever beam vibrating in its fundamental mode. The mooring cables are modeled using an extended quasi-static method. The hydrodynamic effects calculated by using Morison's equation and strip theory consist of added mass, fluid inertia and viscous drag forces. The random sea state is simulated by superimposing a number of linear regular waves. The model shows that the vibration of the blades, nacelle, tower, and spar are coupled in all degrees of freedom and in all inertial, dissipative and elastic components. An uncoupled model of the S-FOWT is then formulated in which the blades and the nacelle are not coupled with the spar vibration. A 5MW S-FOWT is analyzed by using the two proposed models. In the no-wave sea, the coupling is found to contribute to spar responses only. When the wave loading is considered, the coupling is significant for the responses of both the nacelle and the spar.

Citations to arXiv Preprints by Indexed Journals and Their Impact on Research Evaluation

  • This article shows an approach to the study of two fundamental aspects of the prepublication of scientific manuscripts in specialized repositories (arXiv). The first refers to the size of the interaction of "standard papers" in journals appearing in the Web of Science (WoS)-now Clarivate Analytics-and "non-standard papers" (manuscripts appearing in arXiv). Specifically, we analyze the citations found in the WoS to articles in arXiv. The second aspect is how publication in arXiv affects the citation count of authors. The question is whether or not prepublishing in arXiv benefits authors from the point of view of increasing their citations, or rather produces a dispersion, which would diminish the relevance of their publications in evaluation processes. Data have been collected from arXiv, the websites of the journals, Google Scholar, and WoS following a specific ad hoc procedure. The number of citations in journal articles published in WoS to preprints in arXiv is not large. We show that citation counts from regular papers and preprints using different sources (arXiv, the journal's website, WoS) give completely different results. This suggests a rather scattered picture of citations that could distort the citation count of a given article against the author's interest. However, the number of WoS references to arXiv preprints is small, minimizing this potential negative effect.

국제투자협정에서 「이행요건」 부과금지에 관한 비교연구 (A Comparative Study on the Prohibition of Performance Requirements in International Investment Agreements)

  • Since imposing Performance Requirements (PRs) on investors have been conducted as a means to protect a host state's domestic industry in the short run, with its effect on improving the international balance of payments, it has been implemented mostly in developing countries. From the viewpoint of investors, however, PRs hinder free competition and investment activities and have the effect of distorting international trade activities; therefore, they are expected to bring detrimental effects on the host state's economic development in the long run. PRs provided by International Investment Agreements (IIAs) and WTO-TRIMs, too, included many abstract regulations which are grounded on the host state's economic efficiency in the past; however, those PRs are gradually being more concretely specified, shifting to a form of prohibition with the goals of increasing the protection on investors and realizing investment liberalization. Accordingly, when Korea freshly concludes IIAs or revises them afterwards, one should focus more on following the points regarding PRs. First, to protect Korean companies' investment activities, it is advantageous to list the contents of prohibited PRs extensively and concretely and create a stipulation. Second, it is necessary to list the contents of the PRs prohibited and add the phrases for prohibiting "any other similar requirements" explicitly, as well so as to cover the PRs that can appear newly. Third, as in the cases associated with PRs, issuable matters are mostly either the range of applying PRs or the conditions of applying them (relevance or detrimental effects); therefore, it is necessary to classify the cases accumulated by issues and analyze them thoroughly. In conclusion, as this study has analyzed the theoretical characteristics of PRs provided in IIAs and related cases and suggests exquisite theory regarding PRs, it not only lays fundamental grounds for follow-up research but also gives useful and practical guidelines for the parties concerned and the arbitrators according to the ISDS procedure.
