  • The synthesis of N-acrylylpyrrolidone has been carried out by the reaction of pyrrolidone and acrylyl chloride. The study on the copolymer of N-acrylylpyrrolidone and styrene is attempted.The copolymerization of N-acrylylpyrrolidone and styrene is carried out in benzene.Monomer reactivity ratio of N-acrylylpyrrolidone and styrene was calculated by Fineman and Ross equation. It is observed that the copolymer of N-acrylylpyrrolidone and styrene has random distributed acyl-lactam function on the vinyl polymer backbone.

  • Recently, with continuous developments in the field of materials science, graphene oxide (GO) has emerged as a promising material with excellent electrical, thermal, mechanical, and optical properties, which play important roles in most fields. Researchers have achieved considerable progress with graphene. Chitosan (CS) is a natural polymer that has been studied intensively owing to its specific formation, high chemical resistance, and excellent physical properties. These outstanding properties have led to its universal use in applications such as textile fabrics, tissue engineering, medicine and health, coatings, and paints. By combining the advantages of GO and CS, different types of promising materials can be obtained. This review discusses the preparation of GO-CS fibers, hydrogel and aerogel, and the applications of GO-CS nanocomposites. In addition, directions for future research on graphene material composites are discussed.

  • 그라프트중합법은 고분자막이나 직포, 부직포, 합성지 등에 기존 소재의 특성을 손상하지 않고 여러 가지 기능을 가진 관능기를 부여할 수 있다는 점에서 각종 섬유 및 범용성 고분자 소재의 개질 및 특성부여 방법으로 이용되고 있다[1,2,3]. 광조사에 의한 그라프트 중합법은 빛의 침투가 약하고 활성점이 균일하게 형성되지 못한다는 단점이 있으나 그 취급의 용이성 및 안전성, 설비의 경제성 및 실용성이 높을 뿐만 아니라 원재료의 물성을 크게 손상시키지 않으면서 특정 단량체를 그 표면에 도입시킬수 있어 섬유 및 고분자 재료의 표면성질이나 친수성 개선뿐만 아니라 역삼투성 및 이온선택투과성과 같은 기능성의 부여 등에도 적용 가능함이 확인되었다[4].   • Poly(crown ether)s as a functional polymer materials have powerful and selective complexation properties with a large number of metal cations and have advantage of facility of their recovery and modification of their complexation properties in contrast to their monomeric analogues. Poly(crown ether)s having pendant macrocyclic groups can easily form 2:1-type crown ether ring-to-cation complexes with particular metal ions which are a little larger than the cavity of the crown ether ring.   • 인간의 생활수준은 산업의 발달과 함께 꾸준히 향상되고 있으나 환경은 산업발달의 부산물로 배출되는 공해물질들로 인하여 급속히 열악해지고 있다. 대표적인 악취물질로는 암모니아, 황화수소 및 트리메틸아민 등을 들 수 있으며 공간으로부터 악취분자들을 적극적으로 제거하는 탈취소취법에 오늘날 많은 관심이 집중되고 있다. 일반적인 탈취재료는 활성탄, 제올라이트 등의 무기물이 오래전부터 사용되고 있으나 이들의 대표적인 악취물질인 암모니아가스, 황화수소 등 유해가스에 대한 흡착능력은 매우 낮으며 흡착제 형태가 입상이기 때문에 성형가공면에서 한계가 있다.   • The aim of our study is to prepare nanocomposites consisting polymer/inorganic nanoparticles and investigate their physical properties as a functional material. In this study, a nanocomposite of copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticles introduced into a poly(acrylic acid) matrix was prepared and the optical absorption property was measured. The composite exhibited strong absorption of both ultraviolet and near-infrared rays, indicating that the composite is applicable to a solar radiation shielding filter. The wavelength of the near infrared absorption was controlled from ca.1000 nm to 1700 nm by heat and acidic solution treatments.

  • In this paper, we introduce various coarse-grained elastic network modeling (ENM) techniques as a novel computational method for simulating atomic scale dynamics in macromolecules including DNA, RNA, protein, and polymer. In ENM, a system is modeled as a spring network among representative atoms in which each linear elastic spring is well designed to replace both bonded and nonbonded interactions among atoms in the sense of quantum mechanics. Based on this simplified system, a harmonic Hookean potential is defined and used for not only calculating intrinsic vibration modes of a given system, but also predicting its anharmonic conformational change, both of which are strongly related with its functional features. Various nano and bio applications of ENM such as fracture mechanics of nanocomposite and protein dynamics show that ENM is one of promising tools for simulating atomic scale dynamics in a more effective and efficient way comparing to the traditional molecular dynamics simulation.

UV-Induced Graft Polymerization of Polypropylene-g-glycidyl methacrylate Membrane in the Vapor Phase

  • UV-induced graft polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) to a polypropylene (PP) membrane was carried out in the vapor phase with benzophenone (BP) as a photoinitiator. Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were utilized to characterize the copolymer. The degree of grafting increased with increasing reaction time, increased UV irradiation source intensity, and increased immersion concentration of the BP solution. The optimum synthetic condition for the PP-g-GMA membrane was obtained with a reaction time of 2 hrs, a UV irradiation source intensity of 450 W, and an immersion concentration of the BP solution of 0.5 mol/L. The pure water flux decreased upon increasing the degree of grafting and increasing the amount of diethylamino functional group introduced. The analysis of AFM and SEM images shows that the graft chains and diethylamino groups of PP-g-GMA grew on the PP membrane surface, resulting in a change in surface morphology.

  • Chitosan is known to be an excellent biocompatible natural polymer. Recently, with a growing interest of health and environment, chitosan which is good in no harmful effect on human body and environment, has been watched as the finish treatment of hygiene and pleasantness. The purpose of this study is to develop multi functional fabrics by chitosan added on acrylic acid grafted cotton fabrics. Therefore physical properties such as moisture regain, air permeability, whiteness, static voltage and tensile strength of chitosan added on acrylic acid grafted cotton fabrics were investigated. The results are as follows ; According to increased chitosan's concentration, grafting yield was decreased. Therefore thickness of film by treated chitosan added on acrylic acid grafted cotton fabric became thin. FT R spectra of chitosan add on acrylic acid grafted cotton fabric clearly showed peaks of COOH and $NH_2$, Moisture regain, static voltage of chitosan add on acrylic acid grafted cotton fabrics were increased than control. Air permeability, whiteness and tensile strength were decreased than control.

  • EVA microsphere was prepared by a thermally induced phase separation. EVAL microsphere was made by a saponification on sheath of EVA microsphere. And microcapsule with EVA core-PU shell structure was synthesized by interfacial polymerization using diisocyanates with PEG in gelatin aqueous solution as the stabilizing agent. The effects of chemical structure of diisocyanate on the average particle size and distribution, morphology, color strength and friction fastness of core-shell particles were investigated to design microcapsule. The friction fastness of the fabrics printed with EVA core-PU shell microcapsules had the 4-5 grade.
