Dietary fiber imparts both mutritional and functional properties to foods. This review deals with (1) the classification of dietary fiber, (2) the plant cell wall models, (3) the relations between structure and physicochemical and functional properties of dietary fiber and (4) the applications of dietary fiber in foods. Dietary fiber can be classified in terms of source, plant function, solubility, charge and topology. Plant cell wall models are presented to provide information on the interconnections of dietary fiber components which determines the content of soluble and insoluble dietary fiber content. In reality, physicochemical and functional properties of dietary fiber originate factors such as chemical constituents , charge, branching degree, conformation and etc. Dietary fibers possess a variety of functional properties in food systems, which thus make them useful in food application. In particular, rheology and gelation of water-soluble gums or hydrocolloids are discussed for their effects on food quality. A guideline s also listed for the gum selection to meet the best product requirements.

Synapse is the basic structural and functional component for neural communication in the brain. The presynaptic terminal is the structural and functionally essential area that initiates communication and maintains the continuous functional neural information flow. It contains synaptic vesicles (SV) filled with neurotransmitters, an active zone for release, and numerous proteins for SV fusion and retrieval. The structural and functional synaptic plasticity is a representative characteristic; however, it is highly vulnerable to various pathological conditions. In fact, synaptic alteration is thought to be central to neural disease processes. In particular, the alteration of the structural and functional phenotype of the presynaptic terminal is a highly significant evidence for neural diseases. In this review, we specifically describe structural and functional alteration of nerve terminals in several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Huntington's disease (HD).

We propose a new supply chain planning methodology for both a manufacturer and a distributor in order to find a global supply chain plan for functional product markets. Functional products as opposed to innovative products include the staples that people buy regularly from their nearby places to satisfy basic needs. In the functional product market, the distributor has an initiative of supply chain control and planning with a freedom to request any profit maximizing order quantities until the manufacturer refuses, whereas the manufacturer may not provide more than requested. In this paper, two independent agents on behalf of the manufacturer and the distributor are introduced, and supply chain planning can be conducted by collaboration between them. In addition, mathematical models and a numerical example are presented to show the possibility of the proposed methodology.

In this paper, we introduce the MC-CDMA (Multi-Carrier CDMA) system with MD (multi-detector). Due to unknown functional form of noise in wireless channel environments, it is not easy to design the detector through estimating the functional form of noise. Instead, we design the MD, which is constructed based on DGT (Data Grouping Technique) and quantiles estimated through RMSA (Robbins-Monro Stochastic Approximation) algorithm.

There have been some notes on the functional unity of rules or conspiracy in Linguistics. In this paper, I show that so-called 'elsewhere condition', first mentioned in phonology, is observed not only in phonology, but also in morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. And I argue that it is a kind of functional unity of rules or conspiracy in cross-component of linguistic theories. How to handle this in the macro-scopic view of linguist ice is another major issue in further research.

충분한 보안 메카니즘과 보안 통신 능력이 없는 지능망에서는 우연이든 고의적이든 민감한 정보에 대한 적법하지 못한 노출이나 변경이 가능성이 더 높게 존재한다. 암호화 및 복호화 알고리즘과 같은 보안 메카니즘이 존재한다는 가정하에서 이 논문은 현재의 지능망에 보안 통신 능력을 추가하기 위한 포괄적인 프레임웍을 제안하다. 이를 위해, 서비스평면(SvP: Service plane), 총괄기능평면(GFP: Global Functional Plane), 분산기능평면(DFP: Distributed Functional Plane) 및 물리평면(Physical Plane)으로 구성되는 현재의 지능망개념모델을 기본으로 의 각 평면에서 추가되어야 할 보안 통신 능력을 제시한다.

The recent Web service field emerges as the fastest growing IT paradigm as a result of the increasing interest in SOA (Services-Oriented Architecture) and the expansion of B2B market. With an increasing number of Web service that provide similar features, it becomes more important to provide the most appropriate service for the user's request. A service user in general requires the quality information of Web service when selecting a service among a number of similar Web services. Yet, finding a service through UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) does not consider the non-functional aspects of users because it is only based on the functional aspects. That is, the quality, non-functional aspect will be an important factor for the mutual success of the user and provider. Using 3 factors in the Qos factors of the existing studies: the execution cost, reliability, and the quality level, the QoS of Web service is saved and the factors for the QoS are recorded in order to consider non-functional factors when selecting a Web service in this study. The Quality Broker determines the rank and shows the desired result of the service for users. The Quality Broker suggested in this thesis can be used to select a Web Service that considers the user-oriented and non-functional factors.
