  • Jak-STAT pathway is required for embryogenesis, female gametogenesis, cytokine-mediated neuroprotection, diabetes, obesity, cancer, stem cell, and various tissues. The noncanonical role of Jak-STAT in mitochondria function was supported by the detection of STAT protein in mitochondria, however, several studies show that STAT protein is detected in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and not in mitochondria. STAT protein may alter mitochondria function without entering mitochondria, this involves regulation of fission and fusion proteins to change mitochondria morphology. However, how changes in mitochondria morphology lead to changes in mitochondria metabolism needs further investigation.

  • Operation time of a function or procedure is a thing that always needs to be optimized. Parallelizing the operation is the general method to reduce the operation time of the function. One of the most powerful parallelizing methods is using GPU. In image processing field, one of the most commonly used operations is morphology operation. Three types of morphology operations kernel, na$\ddot{i}$ve, global and shared, are presented in this paper. All kernels are made using CUDA and work parallel on GPU. Four morphology operations (erosion, dilation, opening, and closing) using square structuring element are tested on MRI images with different size to measure the speedup of the GPU implementation over CPU implementation. The results show that the speedup of dilation is similar for all kernels. However, on erosion, opening, and closing, shared kernel works faster than other kernels.

  • Compare to investigate the taxonomic utility of infragenera system and interspecific of Asian Geranium, we examined the fruit and seed morphology from 35 taxa. The fruit shape and seed's dispersal way did so that may divide subgenus or some part section to do could reason evolutionary trends. That is, at seed dispersal, the awns of section Geranium of subgenus Geranium, ramains attached at the top of rostrum, though fairy easily broken off, because seed increases awn's elasticity by diffusive way, it is long characteristic seed\`s dispersal distance, and subgenus Robertium observed that seed dispersal distance is short because it is no awn's elasticity by way that seed dispersal is gone as awn drops with rostrum. Also, section Geranium of subgenus Geranium and subgenus Robertium act role that awn keeps temporarily breed swerving with mericarp instead of bristle because section Tuberosa of subgenus Geranium is not bristled function that keep temporarily breed because mericarp bristled on base at seed dispersal do while. Therefore, is thought that is talon that when consider formation's development and function regarding this seed dispersal function, subgenus Geraniuum evolves more than subgenus Robertium. Seed morphology can divide by 2 subgenera(Geranium, Robertium) according to pattern of seed coat. and Seed's morphology characteristic(whole shape, color, form of seed apical and base, micropyle area, hilum area, chalaza, and position of seed hilum area), can distinguish some species, but is thought that is not reasonable as for discernment characteristic form and nature by repetition of characteristic form and nature. Especially, infrasection do in fruit and seed's morphology that is handling in this research that know to argue classification system and relationship by repetition of characteristic form and nature difficult. To all reliable truth, cytological, ecological, embryology, and molecular genetics research about talon is considered that should be achieved section Geranium that do not handle yet.

  • We propose a method that finds candidate targets based on morphology and detects a small target from them using modified gaussian distance function. The existing small target detection methods use predictive filters or morphology. The methods using predictive filters take long to approach least errors. The methods using morphology are weak at clutters and need to consider size of a small target when selecting size of structure elements. We propose a robust method for small target detection to complete the existing methods. First, the proposed method deletes clutters using a median filter. Next, it does closing and opening operation using various size of structure elements, and figures target candidate pixels with subtraction operation between the results of closing and opening operation. It detects an exact small target using a gaussian distance function from the candidates target areas. The proposed method is less sensitive to clutters, and shows a detection rate of 98%.

  • Growth of well-aligned ZnO nanostructures on various substrates such as GaN, ITO/glass, and sapphire was realized via a simple aqueous solution method at low temperature of $90^{\circ}C$. Morphology of ZnO nanostructures grown on various substrates as function of substrate was studied. It was found that ZnO nanostructures is a strong function of substrate. It was clearly observed that the morphology of ZnO nanostructures could be varied by change of substrate. Morphology, crystallinity, and crystal characteristics were carried out by FE-SEM, synchrotron x-ray scattering measurements, and high-resolution electron microscopy, respectively.

  • Form and function are not only the most important factors that tell the very essence of design morphology but also the fundamental factors that determine the existence of things. Th -erefore, approaching to the problems of them and the following practical morphological creation are the final goal of solving all the problems of design. Comparing with such importance and significance of the morphology, however there has been no conscious study nor logical achievement but only partial consideration about them. From this viewpoint, the substantial meanings, the intrinsic attributes and the typical patterns of them are inquired systematically and the whole through this study. Also their relations are identified with some appropriate views. As a result of this study, new knowledge base will be cons -tructed, and it will contribute to developing new morphological thinking and method which are especially strengthened these days.

  • Two experiments were carried out to study the effects of corticosterone (CORT) administration on intestinal morphology and function of broilers. In both experiments, birds were randomly divided into two equal groups. One group was the control group (CTRL), and the birds were fed with a basal diet. The other was the experimental group (CORT), and the birds were fed with the basal diet plus 30 mg of CORT/kg diet. At 21 days of age, performance, morphological characteristics of intestine, D-xylose level in plasma, activities of digestive enzymes in digesta, digestibility of nutrients and 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine (BrdUrd)-labeling index of intestinal epithelial cells were determined. CORT administration decreased feed intake, daily gain and feed conversion ratio (p<0.05). CORT also decreased duodenal and jejunal villus height (p<0.05) as well as crypt depth (p<0.05). The D-xylose level in plasma of CORT-treated broilers was lower than that of the control (p<0.05). CORT treatment caused a decrease in apparent digestibility of protein (p<0.05), whereas fat and starch apparent digestibilities were unaffected (p>0.05). CORT administration increased activities of trypsin and amylase (p<0.05), and decreased BrdUrd-labeling index of duodenal and jejunal epithelial cells (p<0.05). In conclusion, CORT administration impaired the normal morphology and absorptive capacity of the small intestine of broiler chickens.

  • The electrical properties and surface morphology changes of a silicon wafer as a function of the HF concentration as the wafer is etched were studied. The HF concentrations were 28, 30, 32, 34, and 36 wt%. The surface morphology changes of the silicon wafer were measured by an SEM ($80^{\circ}$ tilted at ${\times}200$) and the resistivity was measured by assessing the surface resistance using a four-point probe method. The etching rate increased as the HF concentration increased. The maximum etching rate 27.31 ${\mu}m/min$ was achieved at an HF concentration of 36 wt%. A concave wave formed on the wafer after the wet etching process. The size of the wave was largest and the resistivity reached 7.54 $ohm{\cdot}cm$ at an 30 wt% of HF concentration. At an HF concentration of 30 wt%, therefore, a silicon wafer should have good joining strength with a metal backing as well as good electrical properties.

  • We report the effect of surface morphology on the conductivity of the poly-N-vinylcarbazole (PVK)/silica gel ($SiO_2$) nanocomposites as a function of $SiO_2$ weight percentage (%).The polymerization of PVK was initiated by a free-radical polymerization. The surface morphology of the prepared composite shows the incorporation of $SiO_2$ in the prepared PVK-$SiO_2$ (PS) nanocomposites. The conductivity increased from $9.2{\times}10^{-5}S\;cm^{-1}$ to $9.6{\times}10^{-4}S\;cm^{-1}$ with the increase in the percentage of silica gel from 5 to 30%. The nanocomposites show a percolation behavior having a threshold value between 15 and 20%.

  • In this study, an application of crack morphology variables in the Leak-Before-Break(LBB) evaluation for nuclear piping systems is investigated, including influences on the leakage crack size and crack instability loads. The crack surface roughness and the number of flow turns as a function of the crack opening displacement are applied to LBB evaluations for KSNP pressurizer surge line, for which fatigue and stress corrosion cracking are considered as failure mechanisms. As a result, there would be a significant impact on safety margins to acceptance criteria for the surge line if crack morphology variables are applied additionally to the current regulatory guide without re-analyses for justification of safety factors being applied on the leakage crack size and piping loads for evaluations.
