This paper applies approximation of the renewal function for Hjorth model and Dhillon model which show the trend change in its aging properties. We obtain the renewal function for Hjorth model and Dhillon model by a numerical solution of an approximate integral. We observe the influence of each parameter in these models. The results of the computation are described and their corresponding graphs are provided.
The objective of this investigation is to compare the geometric precision of Rigorous Sensor Model and Rational Function Model for QuickBird images. In rigorous sensor model, we use the on-board data and ground control points to fit an orbit; then, a least squares filtering technique is applied to collocate the orbit. In rational function model, we first use the rational polynomial coefficients provided by the satellite company. Then the systematic bias of the coefficients is compensated by an affine transformation using ground control points. Experimental results indicate that, the RFM provides a good approximation in the position accuracy.
The ergonomic human model can be considered as a tool for the evaluation of ergonomic factors in vehicle design process. The proper anthropometric data on driver's postures are needed in order to apply a human model to vehicle design. Although studies on driver's posture have been carried out for the last few decades, there are still some problems for the posture data to be applied directly to the human model due to the lack of fitness because such studies were not carried out under the conditions for the human model application. In the traditional researches, the joint angles were evaluated by the categorized data, which are not appropriate for the human model application because it is so extensive that it can not explain the posture evaluation data in detail. And the human models require whole-body posture evaluation data rather than joint evaluation data. In this study a postural evaluation function was developed not by category data but by the concept of the loss function in quality engineering. The loss was defined as the discomfort in driver's posture and measured by the magnitude estimation technique in the experiment using a seating buck. Four loss functions for the each joint - knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow were developed and a whole-body postural evaluation function was constructed by the regression analysis using these loss functions as independent factors. The developed postural evaluation function shows a good prediction power for the driver's posture discomfort in validation test. It is expected that the driver's postural evaluation function based on the loss function can be used in the human model application to the vehicle design process.
In order to identify a transfer function model with noise, penalty function method has been widely used. In this method, estimation process for possible model parameters from low to higher order proceeds the model identification process. In this study, based on linear estimation method, a new approach unifying the estimation and the identification of ARMAX model is proposed. For the parameter estimation of a transfer function model with noise, linear estimation method by noise separation is suggested instead of nonlinear estimation method. The feasibility of the proposed model identification and estimation method is verified through simulations, namely by applying the method to time series model. In the case of time series model with noise, the proposed method successfully identifies the transfer function model with noise without going through model parameter identification process in advance. A new algorithm effectively achieving model identification and parameter estimation in unified frame has been proposed. This approach is different from the conventional method used for identification of ARMAX model which needs separate parameter estimation and model identification processes. The consistency and the accuracy of the proposed method has been verified through simulations.
*****Finite element models were developed for thermal and residual stress analysis for the specific welding problems. They were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the various welding heat input models, such as ramp heat input function and lumped pass models. Through the parametric studies, thermal-mechanical modeling sensitivity to the ramp function and lumping techniques was determined by comparing the predicted results with experimental data. The kinetics for residual stress formation during welding can be developed by iteration of various proposed mechanisms in the parametric study. A ramp heat input function was developed to gradually apply the heat flux with variable amplitude to the model. This model was used to avoid numerical convergence problems due to an instantaneous increase in temperature near the fusion zone. Additionally, it enables the model to include the effect of a moving arc in a two-dimensional plane. The ramp function takes into account the variation in the out of plane energy flow in a 2-D model as the arc approaches, travels across, and departs from each plane under investigation. A lumped pass model was developed to reduce the computation cost in the analysis of multipass welds. Several weld passes were assumed as one lumped pass in this model. Recommendations were provided about ramp lumping techniques and the optimum number of weld passes that can be combined into a single thermal input.
The service life of tools in metal forming process is to a large extent limited by wear, fatigue fracture and plastic deformation. In elevated temperature forming processes wear is the predominant factor for tool operating life. To predict tool life by wear Achard's model is generally applied. Usually hardness of die is considered to be a function of temperature. But hardness of die is a function of not only tem-perature but also operating time of die. To consider softening of die by repeated operation it is necessary to express hardness of die by a function of a function of temperature and time. By experiment of reheating of die softening curve was obtained and applied to suggest modified Archard's Model in which hardness is a function of main tempering curve.
This paper deals with the simplification of the transfer function in a frequency domain, viz. the integral of the squared errors between the original and the simplified model is minimized and the latter is estimated by the Walsh function. It tries to minimize the errors between the frequency responses of the two functions. This method is compared with the existing method by means of a numercal example. The frequency response of this simplified model approximates closely to that of the original model. The proposed method is simpler in analysis and easier in implementation than the existing methods. Though the Walsh function can be easily generated with the discrete values, it has errors because its zero crossings are not continuous. This method aims at the reduction of the errors in the real parts and the imaginary parts of the two functions by dividing into the more sub-intervals, and selecting the reduced-order model according to the response of the model. As a result, it can be applied for the simplification of higher order functions into lower order functions and for the design of control systems.
This study aimed to verify the mediating effects of cognitive function and social support and to establish a structural relationship between child maltreatment and resilience in school-age children (n=357) taken in by child protection service. In the first model (linear arrangement), each protective factor mediates independently between maltreatment and resilience; in the second model (arrangement in due order), cognitive function has mediating effects prior to social support. Analysis of data included descriptive statistics, Cronbach's a, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. Results of the first model showed indirect effects of cognitive function and social support. Results of the second model significantly affirmed that the mediators, cognitive function and social support, diminish negative effects of maltreatment by bolstering resilience.
There are many studies about optimization using genetic algorithm and desirability function. It's very important to find the optimal value of something like response surface or regression model. In this study I ind~cate the problem using the old type desirability function, and suggest the new type desirabhty functton that can fix the problem better, and simulate the model. Then I'll suggest the form of desirability function to find the optimum value of response surfaces which are made by mean and standard deviation using genetic algorithm and new type desirability function.

Engineering systems are usually repairable. The reliability of a repairable system can be represented by failure intensity function. A type of shape of failure intensity function is called a failure pattern. Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) presents six typical failure patterns but its definition is unclear. It is an open issue how to recognize the failure pattern of repairable systems. This paper first discusses the problems of RCM with the notion of failure pattern; then presents the method for failure pattern recognition; and finally proposes a flexible failure intensity function model. The appropriateness of the model is illustrated by a real-world example.
