  • In electric motor coaches, the rolling stocks move by the adhesive effort between rail and driving wheel. Generally, the adhesive effort is defined by the function of both the weight of electric motor coach and the adhesive effort between rails and driving wheel. The characteristics of adhesive effort is strongly affected by the conditions between rails and driving wheel. When the adhesive effort decreases suddenly, the electric motor coach has slip phenomena. This paper proposes a re-adhesion control algorithm which uses the maximum adhesive effort by instantaneous estimation of adhesion force using load torque disturbance observer. Based on this estimated adhesive effort, the re-adhesion control is performed to obtain the maximum transfer of the tractive effort.

  • Power system operating conditions vary with system configuration and loading conditions. Coefficients in nominal system model change in a complex manner with different operating point and so does system dynamic behavior. With the aid of unstructured and structured uncertainty descriptions the worst system variations can be estimated and formulated into two different uncertainty models multiplicative unstructured uncertainty in the form of transfer function and structured uncertainty with the parametric uncertainty description. in frequency domain

  • In this study, a seesaw system is used as an example to demonstrate effectiveness of the control theory. This problem which keeps a seesaw's balance is corresponded to one of regulating problems. In this regard, a controller is designed by LQ techniques and an observer is implemented and applied to estimate states which cannot be actually measured in this system. And the genetic algorithm is utilized to systematically choose weighting factors in the given cost function. The performance of the controller is verified through the experiment results.

  • The underlying principle of fault detection via unknown input observer is to make the state estimation error independent of disturbances(or unknown inputs). In this paper, we present a systematic method that can exactly assign the eigenstructure with disturbance suppression and fault isolation capability. A desired eigenstructure for both fault isolation and disturbance suppression is obtained by an optimization method. For the dual purposes, terms for fault isolation and far disturbance suppression are included in the employed objective function for the optimization. The proposed scheme is applied to a simple example to confirm the usefulness of the method.

  • In this paper, we developed a Receding Horizon Predictive Control for Stochastic state space models(RHPCS). RHPCS was designed to minimize a quadratic cost function. RHPCS consists of Receding Horizon Tracking Control(RHTC) and a state observer. It was shown that RHPCS is equivalent to Generalized Predictive Control(GPC) when the underlying state space model is equivalent to the I/O model used in the design of GPC. The equivalence between GPC and RHPCS was shown through. the comparison of the transfer functions of the two controllers. RHPCS provides a time-invarient optimal control law for systems for which GPC can not be used. The stability properties of RHPCS was derived. From the GPC's equivalence to RHPCS, the stability properties of GPC were shown to be the same as those for RHTC.

  • In electric motor coaches, the rolling stocks move by the adhesive effort between rail and driving wheel. Generally, the adhesive effort is defined by the function of both the wright of electric motor coach and the adhesive effort between rails and driving wheel. The characteristics of adhesive effort is strongly affected by the conditions between rails and driving wheel. When the adhesive effort decreases suddenly, the electric motor coach has slip phenomena. This paper proposes a re-adhesion control based on disturbance observer and sensor-less vector control. The numerical simulation and experimental results point out that the proposed re-adhesion control system has the desired driving wheel torque response for the tested bogie system of electric coach. Based on this estimated adhesive effort, the re-adhesion control is performed to obtain the maximum transfer of the tractive effort.

  • The continuous sliding mode controller with disturbance observer for the tracking control of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) is presented. In spite of the robust performance of variable structure control, there exists an undesirable chattering problem, which may be very harmful in some cases. To alleviate the problem, continuous sliding mode controller with continuous saturation function is proposed and also the prescribed performance can be obtained by efficient compensation of disturbance. Experimental results using 7.5 kW, 4000 rpm motor which is controlled by TMS320C30 DSP, are shown to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a speed sensorless control of the saturated induction motor using the zero sequence third harmonic voltages and a compensation method of the stator resistance variations. The air-gap flux of the saturated induction motor contains the space harmonic components rorating synchronous frequency. As a function of the air-gap flux saturation, the dominant third harmonic voltage is used to compensate the non-linear variations of the mutual inductance depending on the saturation level of the motor. and also the stator resistance variations can be measured with the phase angle between the voltage vector and the zero sequencial voltages. The validity of the proposed compensation scheme in the speed sensorless control using rotor flux observer is verified by simulations.

  • In this paper, a commutation torque minimization method using parameter observer for a brushless DC motor fed by a voltage source inverter is described. In order to investigate the nature of the commutation torque ripple in trapezoidal brushless DC motor, a new model of the motor is proposed. The optimal drive voltage to minimize the ripple torque is represented as a function of the motor parameters. Therefore, the important parameter is estimated by least-square algorithm.
