This paper investigated how prosodic position and word type affect the phonetic structure of Korean coronal stops. Initial segments of prosodic domains were known to be more strongly articulated and longer relative to prosodic domain-medial segments. However, there are few studies examining whether the properties of prosodic domain-initial segments are affected by the information content of words (real vs. nonsense words). In addition, since the scope of domain-initial effect was known to be local to the initial consonant and the effects on the following vowel have been found to be limited, it is thus worth examining whether the prosodic domain-initial effect extends into the vowel after the initial consonant in a systematic way across different prosodic domains. The acoustic properties of Korean coronal stops (lenis /t/, aspirated /$t^h$/, and tense /t'/) were compared across Intonational Phrase, Phonological Phrase and Word-initial positions both in real and nonsense words. The durational intervals such as VOT and CV duration were cumulatively lengthened for /t/ and /$t^h$/ in the higher prosodic domain-initial positions. However, tense stop /t'/ did not show any variation as a function of prosodic position and word type. The domain-initial lenis stop showed significantly longer duration in nonsense words than in real words. But the prosodic domain-initial effect was not found in the properties of F0 and [H1-H2] of the vowel after initial stops. The present study provided evidence that speakers tend to enhance speech clarity when there is less contextual information as in prosodic domain-initial position and in nonsense words.

Inter-domain routing is the most critical function of the Internet. The routing system is a logical network relying on the physical infrastructure with geographical characteristics. Nature disasters or disruptive accidents such as earthquakes, cable cuts and power outages could cause regional failures which fail down geographically co-located network nodes and links, therefore, affect the resilience of inter-domain routing system. This paper presents a model for regional failures in inter-domain routing system called REFER for the first time. Based on REFER, the resilience of the inter-domain routing system could be evaluated on a finer level of the Internet, considering different routing policies of intra-domain and inter-domain routing systems. Under this model, we perform simulations on an empirical topology of the Internet with geographical characteristics to simulate a regional failure locating at a city with important IXP (Internet eXchange Point). Results indicate that the Internet is robust under a city-level regional failure. The reachability is almost the same after the failure, and the reroutings occur at the edge of the Internet, hardly affecting the core of inter-domain routing system.
Ankyrins are a ubiquitously expressed family of intracellular adaptor proteins involved in targeting diverse proteins to specialized membrane domains in both the plasma membrane and the endoplasmic reticulum. Canonical ankyrins are 190-220 kDa proteins expressed in most tissues and cell types and comprise a membrane-binding domain (MBD) of 24 ANK repeats, a spectrin-binding domain, a death domain and a C-terminal domain. Rescue studies with ankyrin-B/G chimeras have identified the C-terminal domain of ankyrin-B as the defining domain in specifying ankyrin-B activity, but the function of C-terminal domain of ankyrin-B is, however, not known. We report here that the C-terminal domain of ankyrin-B is capable of interacting with the C-terminal Region of Hsp40. The Hsps are induced not only by heat shock but also by various other environmental stresses. Hsps are also expressed constitutively at normal growth temperatures and have basic and indispensable functions in the life cycle of proteins as molecular chaperones, as well as playing a role in protecting cells from the deleterious stresses. The binding sites required in the interaction between C-terminal domain of ankyrin-B and C-terminal region of Hsp40 were characterized using the yeast two-hybrid system and GST-pull down assay. The interaction between ankyrin-B and Hsp40 represents the first direct evidence of ankyrin's role as chaperones.
Non-stationary extreme winds such as thunderstorm downbursts are responsible for many structural damages. This research presents a time domain approach for estimating along-wind load effects on tall buildings using multiple wind speed time history samples, which are simulated from evolutionary power spectra density (EPSD) functions of non-stationary wind fluctuations using the method developed by the authors' earlier research. The influence of transient wind loads on various responses including time-varying mean, root-mean-square value and peak factor is also studied. Furthermore, a simplified model is proposed to describe the non-stationary wind fluctuation as a uniformly modulated process with a modulation function following the time-varying mean. Finally, the probabilistic extreme response and peak factor are quantified based on the up-crossing theory of non-stationary process. As compared to the time domain response analysis using limited samples of wind record, usually one sample, the analysis using multiple samples presented in this study will provide more statistical information of responses. The time domain simulation also facilitates consideration of nonlinearities of structural and wind load characteristics over previous frequency domain analysis.
The artificial potential method uses a potential field to guide a robot from a start to a goal configuration respectively. The potential field consists of attractive potential used to pull a robot toward a goal and repulsive potential to keep it away from obstacles. However, there are two problems concerning local minimum and computational cost to be resolved in conventional artificial potential methods. This study proposes a method utilizing a spline surface that interpolates arbitrary boundaries and a domain reduction method that reduces the unnecessary area. The proposed spline surface interpolates arbitrary shaped boundaries and is used as an artificial potential to guide a robot for global motion planning of a mobile robot. A reduced domain process reduces the unnecessary domain. We apply a distance-weighted function as such a function, which blends distances from each boundary with a reduction in computational time compared with other analytical methods. As a result, this paper shows that an arbitrary boundary spline surface provides global planning and a domain reduction method reduces local minimum with quick operation.
The simultaneous-source full waveform inversion improves the applicability of full waveform inversion by reducing the computational cost. Since this technique adopts simultaneous multi-source for forward modeling, unwanted events remain in the residual seismograms when the receiver geometry of field acquisition is different from that of numerical modeling. As a result, these events impede the convergence of the full waveform inversion. In particular, the streamer-type data with limited offsets is the most difficult data to apply the simultaneous-source technique. To overcome this problem, the global-correlation-based objective function was suggested and it was successfully applied to the simultaneous-source full waveform inversion in time domain. However, this method distorts residual wavefields due to the modified objective function and has a negative influence on the inversion result. In addition, this method has not been applied to the frequency-domain simultaneous-source full waveform inversion. In this paper, we apply a timedamping function to the observed and modeled data, which are used to compute global correlation, to minimize the distortion of residual wavefields. Since the damped wavefields optimize the performance of the global correlation, it mitigates the distortion of the residual wavefields and improves the inversion result. Our algorithm incorporates the globalcorrelation-based full waveform inversion into the frequency domain by back-propagating the time-domain residual wavefields in the frequency domain. Through the numerical examples using the streamer-type data, we show that our inversion algorithm better describes the velocity structure than the conventional global correlation approach does.

Wind-induced vibration of buildings with viscoelastic dampers are studied analytically. The added viscoelastic dampers change the damping distribution and reduce the response of buildings. The distribution of damping resistance that results from these viscoelastic dampers is known as non-classical or non-proportional. Non-classically damped structures are analyzed by state-space approach. However, this approach is complex and time-consumming compared to classical approach. This paper is aimed at the analysis of wind-induced Vibration Of buildings With Viscoelastic dampers. The Process Of State-Space approach is studied and the approximate analysis is suggested to overcome the complex and time-consuming access. For numerical certification, PSDF(Power Spectral Density Function) is obtained. Autocorrelation function is obtained in time domain and PSDF is obtained by fourier transformation of this function in frequency domain. It is found that Approximate method can give close approximation to exact solution.

It has been widely accepted that expert systems must reason from multiple sources of information that is to some degree evidential - uncertain, imprecise, and occasionally inaccurate - called evidential information. Evidence theory (Dempster/Shafet theory) provides one of the most general framework for representing evidential information compared to its alternatives such as Bayesian theory or fuzzy set theory. Many expert system applications require evidence to be specified in the continuous domain - such as time, distance, or sensor measurements. However, the existing evidence theory does not provide an effective approach for dealing with evidence about continuous variables. As an extension to Strat's pioneeiring work, this paper provides a new combination rule, a new method for mass function transffrmation, and a new method for rendering joint mass fuctions which are of great utility in evidence theory in the continuous domain.

We calculate the distribution of the induced current on the strip by the TE waves on the infinite conducting strip. The boundary equations represented as the spatial domain function becomevery complicated equations including convolution integral. As we transform it to the spectral domain, we have a very simple equation expressed by some algebraic multiplication of the current density function and Green's function. It is shown that the computation result of the induced current distribution gives the optimum value, when the stop condition of iteration presented in this paper are satisfied.

The meshfree method is extended by the local partition of unity method to model the cohesive cracks in two dimensional continuum The shape function of a particle whose domain of influence is completely cut by a crack is enriched by the step enrichment function. If the domain of influence contains a crack tip inside, it is enriched by the branch enrichment function without the stress singularity. It is found that this method is more accurate and converges faster than the meshless methods for LEFM cracks based on the visibility concept Several staic and dynamic examples are solved to verify the method.
