  • The mechanical and electrical properties of the hot-pressed and annealed $\beta$-Sic-$ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$-SiC(6H), $ZrB_2$, and YAG($Al_{5}Y_{3}O_{12}$). The relative density of composites were increased with increasing $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ contents. The flexural strength showed the highest value of 390.6MPa for composites added with 20wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ additives at room temperature. Owing to crack deflection, crack bridging. phase transition and YAG of fracture toughness mechanism. the fracture toughness showed the highest value of 6.3MPa${\cdot}m^{1/2}$ for composites added with 24wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance (PTCR) in the temperature range of 25$^{\circ}C$ to 900$^{\circ}C$.

  • The photocatalyst $TiO_2$ thin film was made from titanium (IV) isopropoxide, ethanol, and HCl by sol-gel method. The surface observation by SEM showed the sample that was coated 5 times at $500^{\circ}C$ had good properties. The component ratio, in atom% of O : Ti by EDX analysis, of 61 : 39 by spin coating was superior than dip coating. It was found that crystal structure changed from anatase phase to rutile phase as a function of the temperature of thin film fabrication, and this was measured by XRD. The photolysis efficiency of total organic compounds (TOC) by lighting UV beam on $TiO_2$ thin film showed 20%~65% within 1 h, and decreased slowly thereafter.

  • The areas consisting of frost susceptible soils in cold regions, such as the Arctic area, have problems of frost heave and thaw settlement due to the seasonal air temperature changes and internal temperature of installed structures. Ground stabilization methods for preventing frost heave and thaw settlement of frost susceptible soils include trenching, backfilling and thermo-syphon. The thermo-syphon is the method in which refrigerant can control the ground temperature by transferring the ground temperature to atmosphere in the from of two-phase flow through the heat circulation of the internal refrigerant. This numerical study applied the function of these thermo-syphon as the boundary condition through user-subroutine coding inside ABAQUS and compared and analyzed the temperature results of laboratory experiments.

  • In this investigation, samples of the chemical (Hg1-xPbxBa2Ca1.8Mg0.2Cu3O8+δ) were prepared utilizing a solid-state reaction technique with a range of lead concentrations (x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.10, and 0.20). Specimens were pressed at 8 tons per square centimeter and then prepared at 1,138 K in the furnace. The crystalline structure and surface topography of all samples were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). X-ray diffraction results showed that all of the prepared samples had a tetragonal crystal structure. Also, the results showed that when lead was partially replaced with mercury, an increase in the lead value impacted the phase ratio, and lattice parameter values. The AFM results likewise showed excellent crystalline consistency and remarkable homogeneity during processing. The electrical resistivity was calculated as a function of temperature, and the results showed that all samples had a contagious behavior, as the resistivity decreased with decreasing temperature. The critical temperature was calculated and found to change, from 102, 96, 107, and 119 K, when increasing the lead values in the samples from 0.0 to 0.05, 0.10, and 0.20, respectively.

  • Objective: To assess the accuracy and potential bias of computed tomography (CT) ventricular volumetry using semiautomatic three-dimensional (3D) threshold-based segmentation in repaired tetralogy of Fallot, and to compare them to those of two-dimensional (2D) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study evaluated 32 patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot who had undergone both cardiac CT and MRI within 3 years. For ventricular volumetry, semiautomatic 3D threshold-based segmentation was used in CT, while a manual simplified contouring 2D method was used in MRI. The indexed ventricular volumes were compared between CT and MRI. The indexed ventricular stroke volumes were compared with the indexed arterial stroke volumes measured using phase-contrast MRI. The mean differences and degrees of agreement in the indexed ventricular and stroke volumes were evaluated using Bland-Altman analysis. Results: The indexed end-systolic (ES) volumes showed no significant difference between CT and MRI (p > 0.05), while the indexed end-diastolic (ED) volumes were significantly larger on CT than on MRI (93.6 ± 17.5 mL/m2 vs. 87.3 ± 15.5 mL/m2 for the left ventricle [p < 0.001] and 177.2 ± 39.5 mL/m2 vs. 161.7 ± 33.1 mL/m2 for the right ventricle [p < 0.001], respectively). The mean differences between CT and MRI were smaller for the indexed ES volumes (2.0-2.5 mL/m2) than for the indexed ED volumes (6.3-15.5 mL/m2). CT overestimated the stroke volumes by 14-16%. With phase-contrast MRI as a reference, CT (7.2-14.3 mL/m2) showed greater mean differences in the indexed stroke volumes than did MRI (0.8-3.3 mL/m2; p < 0.005). Conclusion: Compared to 2D MRI, CT ventricular volumetry using semiautomatic 3D threshold-based segmentation provides comparable ES volumes, but overestimates the ED and stroke volumes in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot.

  • In the present work, corrosion rate W and corrosion potential tow were simultaneously measured as a function of relative humidity RH employing the electrochemical wet and dry method as an accelelated atmospheric corrosion method. The W versus (vs.) RH curve is classified into .three regions, namely, the first W plateau region, the second region of the linear relationship between logarithmic W and RH, finally, followed by an abrupt decay region. Based upon the atmospheric corrosion mechanism of mild steel, we introduced another diagram of $\varepsilon_{corr}$ vs. RH which is divided into three regions. In the first region, the corrosion scales are composed of single lepidocrocite-phase $(\gamma-FeOOH)$; in the second region, $\gamma-FeOOH$-phase coexists with magnetite-phase $(Fe_3O_4)$ in the scales and finally the oxide scales change into a single Fe304-phase in the third region. The three distinct regions of both representations share almost each other, which is validated by FT-IR (Fourier transform infra-red) analysis and surface observation. Both representations prove to be convenient and complementary for surveying the spectrum of the atmospheric corrosion of mild steel.

  • Epitaxial $CoSi_2$ layer has been grown on NaCl(100) substrate at low deposition temperature($200^{\circ}C$) by multitarget bias cosputter deposition(MBCD). The phase sequence and crystallinity of deposited silicide as a function of deposition temperature and substrate bias voltage were studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) analysis. Crystalline Si was grown at $200^{\circ}C$ by metal induced crystallization(M1C) and self bias effect. In addition to, the MIC was analyzed both theoretically and experimentally. The observed phase sequence was $Co_2Si \to CoSi \to Cosi_2$ and was in good agreement with that predicted by effective heat of formation rule. The phase sequence, the CoSi(l11) preferred orientation, and the crystallinity had stronger dependence on the substrate bias voltage than the deposition temperature due to the collisional cascade mixing, the in-situ cleaning, and the increase in the number of nucleation sites by ion bombardment of growing surface. Grain growth induced by ion bombardment was observed with increasing substrate bias voltage at $200^{\circ}C$ and was interpreted with ion bombardment dissociation model. The parameters of $E_{Ar}\;and \alpha(V_s)$ were chosen to properly quantify the ion bombardment effect on the variation in crystallinty at $200^{\circ}C$ with increasing substrate bias voltage using Langmuir probe.
