  • In this study, quantitative and pattern recognition analysis for the quality evaluation of Cimicifugae Rhizoma using HPLC/UV was developed. For quantitative analysis, three major bioactive phenolic compounds were determined. The separation conditions employed for HPLC/UV were optimized using ODS $C_{18}$ column ($250{\times}4.6mm$, $5{\mu}M$) with isocratic elution of acetonitrile and water with 0.1% phosphoric acid as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and a detection wavelength of 323 nm. These methods were fully validated with respect to the linearity, accuracy, precision, recovery, and robustness. The HPLC/UV method was applied successfully to the quantification of three major compounds in the extract of Cimicifugae Rhizoma. The HPLC analytical method for pattern recognition analysis was validated by repeated analysis of twelve reference samples corresponding to five different species of Cimicifugae Rhizoma and seventeen samples purchased from markets. The results indicate that the established HPLC/UV method is suitable for the quantitative analysis and quality control of multi-components in Cimicifugae Rhizoma.

  • Shape optimization of internally finned circular tube has been peformed for periodically fully developed turbulent flow and heat transfer. The physical domain considered in this study is very complicated due to periodic boundary conditions both streamwise and circumferential directions. Therefore, Pareto frontier sets of a heat exchanger can be acquired by coupling the CFD and the multi-objective genetic algorithm, which is a global optimization technique. The optimal values of fin widths $(d_1,\;d_2)$ and fin height (H) are numerically obtained by minimizing the pressure loss and maximizing the heat transfer rate within ranges of $d_1=0.2\sim1.5\;mm,\;d_2=0.2\sun1.5\;mm,\;and\;H=0.2\sim1.5\;mm$. The optimal values of the design variables are acquired after the fifth generation and also compared to those of a local optimization algorithm for the same geometry and conditions.

  • In this study, performance analyses have been conducted for a 5MW class wind turbine blade model. Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and computational structural dynamics(CSD) has been developed in order to investigate detailed dynamic responsed of wind turbine blade. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with K-${\epsilon}$ turbulence model are solved for unsteady flow problems of the rotating turbine blade model. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of the 3D turbine blade for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Predicted aerodynamic performance considering structural deformation effect of the blade show different results compared to the case of rigid blade model.

  • PM recent developments focus on increasing this technology's competitiveness when compared to wrought materials. Warm compaction allows the replacement of a double press double sinter process with a single warm press and sintering step, thus allowing cost and time savings. Moreover there are added benefits to consider such as reducing work in process and lessening part's logistics cost. This paper presents a successful industrial trial to replace a double press-double sinter process with a warm die compaction and sintering process. The part chosen was a high performance gear containing 0,9% wt. carbon. Sintering was conducted in a belt furnace at $1120^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen rich atmosphere with rapid cooling process in order to obtain a quasi fully martensitic structure with a minimum of 700HV0,1 and 450HV10 after annealing. The balance between properties and cost is favoured by the use of a singular lubricant developed in a Eureka frame project together with POMETON S.A. and die warm compaction. Warm compaction is only needed to be effective on the gear teeth, in order to achieve the required properties. Therefore only the die is actually heated. This simplified system avoids flow rate problems typically involved when using more elaborate warm compaction equipments.

  • An optimization procedure to find the inlet concentration profile that yields the most uniform deposition rate in a cylindrical CVD chamber has been developed. Assuming that the chemical reaction time is negligibly small, a SIMPLE based finite-volume method is adopted to solve the fully elliptic equations for momentum, temperature, and concentration. The inlet concentration profile is expressed by a linear combination of Chebyshev polynomials and the coefficients of which are determined by the local random search technique. It is shown that the present method is very effective in improving the uniformity of the deposition rate, especially when Re is high and/or the wafer is placed close to the inlet. The optimal profiles have been obtained for various Re, Gr, and geometry combinations.

  • In the local Universe, the gravitational effects of mass density fluctuations exert perturbations on galaxies' redshifts on top of Hubble's Law, called 'peculiar velocities'. These peculiar velocities provide an excellent way to test the cosmological model in the nearby Universe. In this talk, we present new cosmological constraints using peculiar velocities measured with the 2MASS Tully-Fisher survey (2MTF), 6dFGS peculiar-velocity survey (6dFGSv), the Cosmicflows-3 and Cosmicflows-4TF compilation. Firstly, the dipole and the quadrupole of the peculiar velocity field, commonly named 'bulk flow' and 'shear' respectively, enable us to test whether our cosmological model accurately describes the motion of galaxies in the nearby Universe. We develop and use a new estimators that accurately preserves the error distribution of the measurements to measure these moments. In all cases, our results are consistent with the predictions of the Λ cold dark matter model. Additionally, measurements of the growth rate of structure, fσ8 in the low-redshift Universe allow us to test different gravitational models. We developed a new estimator of the "momentum" (density weighted peculiar velocity) power spectrum and use joint measurements of the galaxy density and momentum power spectra to place new constraints on the growth rate of structure from the combined 2MTF and 6dFGSv data. We recover a constraint of fσ8=0.404+0.082-0.081 at an effective redshift zeff=0.03. This measurement is also fully consistent with the expectations of General Relativity and the Λ Cold Dark Matter cosmological model.

  • A new surface shape of an internal cooling passage which largely reduces the pressure drop and enhances the surface heat transfer is proposed in the present study. The surface shape of the cooling passage is consisted of the concave dimple and the riblet inside the dimple which is protruded along the stream-wise direction. Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) for the fully developed turbulent flow and thermal fields in the cooling passage is conducted. The numerical simulations for five different surface shapes are conducted at the Reynolds number of 2800 based on the mean bulk velocity and channel height and Prandtl number of 0.71. The driving pressure gradient is adjusted to keep a constant mass flow rate in the x direction. The thermoaerodynamic performance for five different cases used in the present study was assessed in terms of the drag, Nusselt number, Fanning friction factor, volume and area goodness factor in the cooling passage. The value of maximum ratio of drag reduction is -22.86 %, and the value of maximum ratio of Nusselt number augmentation is 7.05% when the riblet angle is $60^{\circ}$. The remarkable point is that the ratio of Nusselt number augmentation has the positive value for the surface shapes which have over $45^{\circ}$ of the riblet angle. The maximum volume and area goodness factors are obtained when the riblet angle is $60^{\circ}$.

  • Cured-in-place-pipe(CIPP) is the most adopted trenchless application for sewer rehabilitation to extend the life of the existing sewer without compromising both direct construction and indirect social costs especially applied in the congested urban area. This technology is globally and domestically known to be the most suitable for partial and full deteriorated pipe structure rehabilitation in a sewer system. The typical design of CIPP requires a significant thickness of lining to support loading causing sewage flow interruption and increasing material cost. This paper presents development of a high strength glass fiber composite lining material for the CIPP application and structural test results. The test results exhibit that the new glass fiber composite lining material has 12 times of flexural strength, 6.2 times of flexural modulus, and 0.5 Creep Retention Factor. These test results can reduce lining design thickness 35% at minimum. Even though taking into consideration extra materials such as outer and inner films for actual field applications, the structural capacity of the composite material significantly increases and it reduces 20 percent or more line thickness as compared to the conventional CIPP. We expect that the newly developed CIPP lining material lowers material costs and minimizes flow capacity reduction, and fully replaceable to the conventional CIPP lining materials.

  • In this study, advanced (fluid-structure interaction (FSI)) analysis system has been developed in order to predict turbine cascade performance with blade deformation effect due to aerodynamic loads. Intereference effects due to the relative movement of the rotor cascade with respect to the stator cascade are also considered. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with one equation Spalart-Allmaras and two-equation k-ω SST turbulence models are solved to accurately predict fluid dynamic loads considering flow separation effects. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the (coupled Newmark time-integration method) with high artificial damping is efficiently used to compute the complex fluid-structure interaction problem. Predicted aerodynamic performance considering structural deformation effect of the blade shows somewhat different results compared to the case of rigid blade model. Cascade performance evaluations for different elastic axis positions are importantly presented and its aeroelastic effects are investigated.
