  • In order to harvest power in an efficient manner from a micro piezoelectric (PZT) device for charging the battery of a remote system, a new AC/DC resonant pulse power converter is proposed. The proposed power converter has two stages in the power conversion process. The first stage includes N-type MOSFET full bridge rectifier. The second stage includes a boost converter having an N-type MOSFET and a P-type MOSFET. MOSFETs work in the $1^{st}$ or $3^{rd}$ quadrant region. A small inductor for the boost converter is assigned in order to make the size of the power converter as small as possible, which makes the on-interval of the MOSFET switch of the boost converter ultimately short. Due to this short on-interval, the parasitic junction capacitances of MOSFETs affect the performance of the power converter system. In this paper, the performance of the new converter is analytically and experimentally evaluated with consideration of the parasitic capacitance of switching devices.

  • This paper presents high efficiency control system of automotive 35W electronic ballast for high intensity discharge(HID) lamp using switching flyback converter with variable frequency. Considering performance, size and efficiency of ballast, the flyback converter is designed with planar transformer in converter stage. HID lamp demands a highly efficient ballast and very complex control circuitry that can control complex transient state for applying to automotive. The proposed electronic ballast system is composed of a flyback converter using planar transformer, a full bridge inverter, and a step up igniter. In this system, switching frequency of flyback converter is controlled by varying input voltage of HID ballast and the price and the size of HID ballast using planar transformer can be reduced. The performance and efficiency of the posed system are verified through various the experiment results.

  • Combination the several type of single phase power conversion utilized simply topology are proposed in this paper. Totally four kind of converter are investigated, they are Boost AC/AC Converter, Buck AC/AC Converter, Boost AC/DC Converter, and Buck DC/AC Converter. Two types action mode are presented to determine the functional of circuit. First is AC chopper action mode, representation of the AC/AC converter. AC chopper action mode offered the sinusoidal current waveform, better power factor, faster dynamics, and smaller input/output filter. They present high robustness, offer safe commutation and have high efficiency. The second is full bridge action mode, determined the transformation AC to DC power and otherwise. Four switching devices and one magnetic contactor will establish the mode operation of circuit and manage the flow of power proceed in proper. The correction and advance of the kind of converter are verified by simulation.

  • This paper is to describe how to apply the Phase-shifted Full Bridge 100kHz high frequency soft-switching PWM method to 48[V], 200[A] DC/DC converter. The soft-switching is achieved from light load to full load by using phase-shifted zero voltage switching method with additional capacitors besides the MOSPET's of the right leg even though the leakage inductance of high frequency transformer is designed small. This method can reduce the switching tosses, EMI problems, and increase the effective duty. Also, this paper includes the simulation, analysis, and experiment results of the DC/DC converter unit.

  • This paper proposes an active-clamp ac-dc converter with direct power conversion that has a simple structure and achieves high efficiency. The proposed converter is derived by integrating the step-down ac chopper and the output-voltage doubler. The proposed converter provides direct ac-dc conversion and dc output voltage without using any full-bridge diode rectifier. The step-down ac chopper using an active-clamp mechanism serves to clamp the voltage spike across the main switches and provides zero-voltage turn-on switching. The resonant-current path formed by the leakage inductance of the transformer and the resonant capacitor of the output-voltage doubler achieves the zero-current turn-off switching of the output diodes. The operation principle of the converter is analyzed and verified. A 500W prototype is implemented to show the performance of the proposed converter. The prototype provides maximum efficiency of 95.1% at the full load.

  • A resonant converter suitable for applications of wide input variation is proposed. A half-bridge converter and a phase-shift converter are combined in primary and the secondaries of each transformer are connected in series which makes four voltage levels. Furthermore, by adopting resonant converter scheme, a resonant capacitor is connected with the secondaries of the transformers in series and an output inductor is removed. Zero voltage switching is achieved from full load to no load. The analysis of the resonant converter and experimental results of 200W prototype is presented to verify the features of the converter.

  • In this paper, a novel topology for cascade multilevel converter is introduced, which has many levels with fewer number of power electronic components. Less number of the switches leads to the reduction of size, losses, simple control strategy and high efficiency. For proposed multilevel converter, a new algorithm for determination of dc voltage source values has been recommended. The performance and operation of the proposed multilevel converter has been evaluated with the simulation results of a cascade 25-level converter.

  • This paper deals with a fixed frequency full-bridge inverter type DC-DC high-power converter with high frequency high voltage(HFHV) transformer-coupled stage, which operates under quasi-resonant ZVS transition priciple in spite of a wide PWM-based voltage regulation processing and largely-changed load conditions. This multi-resonant(MR) converter topology is composed of a series capacitor-connected parallel resonant tank which makes the most of parasitic circuit reactive components of HFHV transformer and two additional quasi-resonant pole circuits incorporated into the bridge legs. The soft-switching operation and practical efficacy of this new converter circuit using the latest IGBTs are actually ascertained through 50kV trially-produced converter system operating using 20kHz/30kHz high voltage(HV) transformers which is applied for driving the diagnostic HV X-ray tube load in medical equipments. It is proved from a practical point of view that the switching losses of IGBTs and their electrical dynamic stresses relating to EMI noise can be considerably reduced under a high frequency(HF) switching-based phase-shift PWM control process for a load setting requirements.

  • In the past, the PWM converter had a large switching loss by hard switching and difficult to high frequency operation. The resonance converter to decrease the switching loss and EMI is required the frequency control and needed to reduce the voltage or current stress at each parts. So, this paper propose the 3-phase boost converter and the method to compensated input power factor by control the amplitude - an instantaneous value of the DC inductor current -and control the switching frequency that a modulation error by the ripple of the DC inductor current. The proposed 3-phase PWM boost converter of single phase control type can takes higher capacity and compensate the power factor by using Feed back controller at each phase for the existing 3-phase bridge rectifier type. Moreover the 3-phase full bridge type using the rectifier at each 3-phase circuit will be small size reactor and compensate input power factor by minimize harmonic components of each phase.

  • This study proposes a dual-output single-stage bridgeless single-ended primary-inductor converter (DOSSBS) that can completely remove the front-end full-bridge alternating current-direct current rectifier to accomplish power factor correction for universal line input. Without the need for bridge diodes, the proposed converter has the advantages of low component count and simple structure, and can thus significantly reduce power loss. DOSSBS has two uncommon output ports to provide different voltage levels to loads, instead of using two separate power factor correctors or multi-stage configurations in a single stage. Therefore, this proposed converter is cost-effective and compact. A magnetically coupled inductor is introduced in DOSSBS to replace two separate inductors to decrease volume and cost. Energy stored in the leakage inductance of the coupled inductor can be completely recycled. In each line cycle, the two active switches in DOSSBS are operated in either high-frequency pulse-width modulation pattern or low-frequency rectifying mode for switching loss reduction. A prototype for dealing with an $85-265V_{rms}$ universal line is designed, analyzed, and built. Practical measurements demonstrate the feasibility and functionality of the proposed converter.
