연소실 압력변동과 2차 연료분사가 화염안정화와 NOx 배출에 미치는 영향 (Influence of changing combustor pressure and secondary fuel injection on flame stabilization and NOx emission)

  • Influence of changing combustor pressure on flame stabilization and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission in the swirl-stabilized flame with secondary fuel injection was investigated. The combustor pressure was controlled by suction at combustor exit. Pressure index ($P{\ast}=P_{abs}/P_{atm}$), where $P_{abs}$ and $P_{atm}$ indicated the absolute pressure and atmosphere pressure, was controlled in the range of $0.7{\sim}1.3$ for each equivalence ratio conditions. The flammable limits of swirl flames were largely influenced by changing combustor pressure and they showed different tendency compared with laminar flames. Emission index showed maximum value near atmospheric condition and decreased with decreasing pressure index for overall equivalence ratio conditions. R.m.s of pressure fluctuations also showed similar tendency with nitric oxide emission. By injecting secondary fuel into flame zone, the flammable limits were extended significantly. Emission index of nitric oxide and r.m.s. of pressure fluctuations were also controlled by injecting secondary fuel. The swirl flames were somewhat lifted by secondary fuel with high momentum, hence low nitric oxide emission. This NOx reduction technology is applicable to industrial furnaces and air conditioning system by adopting secondary fuel injection.

경유혼입 디젤엔진오일의 점도특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Viscosity Characteristics of Diluted Engine Oils with Diesel Fuel)

  • An experimental study was conducted to evaluate the viscosity characteristics of multi-grade engine oils in which contain diesel fuels. Unused engine oils of SAE 5W40, 10W40 and 15W40 were blended with a diesel fuel ratio of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The viscosity of a diluted engine oil was measured with temperature variation ranging from $-20^{\circ}C$ to $120^{\circ}C$ using a rotary viscometer. The diluted engine oil in which is blended to a diesel fuel plays an important role for decreasing an engine oil viscosity, which may decrease the oil film thickness and a load-carrying capacity. Test results show that the viscosity tends to fall for the increased temperature when engine oil is mixed with a diesel fuel. Especially, the viscosity at a low temperature zone is radically decreased compared with a high temperature zone. Based on the experimental results, the empirical equation that can predict the viscosity of diluted engine oil is expressed in the exponential function with the variation of the temperature and a fuel ratio of diluted engine oil. This equation may be possible to predict the limitation of the oil-fuel dilution rate at the concept design stage of the CDPF system, which doesn't affect the influence of the tribological components.

  • In this study, the effects of oxygen component in fuel and exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) method on the exhaust emissions has been investigated for a D.I. diesel engine. It was tested to estimate change of exhaust emission characteristics for the commercial diesel fuel and oxygenate blended fuel which has five kinds of blending ratio. Dimethoxy methane(DMM) contains oxygen component 42.5% in itself. and it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel for reduction of smoke emission. It was affirmed that smoke emission was decreased with increasing of DMM blending ratio. But, NOx emission was increased compared with commercial diesel fuel. It was needed a NOx reduction countermeasure that EGR method was used as a countermeasure for NOx reduction. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx emission was achieved with DMM blended fuel and cooled EGR method($10{\sim}15%$).

  • The object of this paper is the probabilistic failure analysis on the cladding performance of WPF(Whole Pin Furnace) test fuel pins under transient conditions, and analysis of the KALIMER fuel pin using the preceding analysis. The cumulative damage estimation and Weibull probability estimation of WPF test are performed. The probabilistic method was adapted for these analyses to determine the effective thickness thinning due to eutectic penetration depth. In the results, it is difficult to assume that a brittle layer depth made by eutectic reaction is all of the thickness reduction due to cladding thinning. About 93% cladding thinning of the eutectic penetration depth is favorable as an effective thickness of cladding. And the unreliability of the KALIMER driver fuel pin under the same WPF test condition is lower than that of the WPF pin because of the higher plenum-fuel volume ratio and lower cladding inner radius vs. thickness ratio. KALIMER fuel pin developed from conceptual design has a more stable transient performance for a failure mechanism due to fission gas buildup than the WPF pin.

와류실식 디젤기관의 배기배출물 저감을 위한 연소실의 압축비 및 분구면적비 개선 (Improving Compression and Throat Ratios of Combustion Chamber for Reduction of Exhaust Emissions for a Swirl Chamber Type Diesel Engine)

  • A swirl chamber type diesel engine attachable to 18 kW agricultural tractors was improved to reduce exhaust emissions. Compression ratio and throat area ratio of the combustion chamber were varied to determine optimum combustion conditions. Tests were composed of full load and 8-mode emission tests. Compression ratio was fixed as 21, but the swirl chamber volume was increased by 3.8%. Output power, torque, specific fuel consumption, exhaust gas temperature, and smoke level were not considerably different for compression ratios of 21.5 (reference condition) and 21 (test condition), while NOx, HC, CO and PM levels for the compression ratio of 21 were decreased by 11%, 46%, 28%, 11%, respectively, from those for the compression ratio of 21.5. The tests were also conducted with a compression ratio of 22 and 4.3% increased chamber volume. Output power, torque, exhaust gas temperature and smoke level were greater, while specific fuel consumption was less for the compression ratio of 22 than those for the compression ratio of 21.5. Increase of compression ratio decreased HC and CO levels by 24%, 39%, but increased NOx and PM levels by 24%, 39%. Based on these results, a compression ratio of 21 was selected as an optimum value. Then, full load tests with the selected compression ratio of 21 were carried out for different throat ratios of 1.0%, 1.1%, 1.2%. Output power and torque were greatest and smoke was lowest when throat area ratio was 1.1%, which satisfied the target values of specific fuel consumption (less than 272 g/$kW{\cdot}h$) and exhaust gas temperature (less than $550^{\circ}C$). Therefore, a throat area ratio of 1.1% was selected as an optimum value.

  • A modified ratio control algorithm is proposed for the improvement of the fuel economy for a metal belt CVT. In the modified ratio control algorithm, the CVT ratio is controlled to operate the engine on the optimal operation region which provides the best efficiency from the view point of the overall efficiency of the engine-CVT system. In order to construct the modified ratio map, the CVT system loss model is used by assuming that the all the loss is attributed to the torque loss. It is found from the simulation results that the fuel economy by the modified ratio control algorithm is improved by 5.5 percents compared with the existing ratio control.

A Simple Thermal Model of Fuel Thermal Management System in Aircraft Engine

  • The architecture of the Fuel Thermal Management System (FTMS) in a commercial aircraft engine was built to model and simulate the fuel system. The study shows the thermal interactions between the fuel and engine lubrication oil through the mission profile of a high bypass ratio, two-spool turbofan engine. Fuel temperature was monitored as it flowed through each sub-component of the fuel system during the mission. The heat load in the fuel system strongly depended on the fuel flow rate, and was significantly increased for the periods of cruise and descent with decrease of fuel flow rate, rather than for the periods of take-off. Due to the thermal interaction in the pump housing, the fuel temperature at the outlet of the low-pressure pump was increased (4.0, 9.2, and 30.0) % over the case without thermal interaction for take-off, cruise, and descent, respectively.

음식물류폐기물과 하수슬러지 혼합비율에 따른 반탄화 생성물의 연료적 특성비교 (The Characteristics of properties torrefied product according to Food waste and sewage sludge mixing ratio)

  • 음식물류폐기물의 에너지 잠재량은 2,206 천TOE 임에도 대부분 사료화와 퇴비화로 약 85.5%가 재활용 되고 있으며, 해당 시설에서 생산된 제품 중 사료화는 72%, 퇴비화는 61%가 무상판매되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 음식물류폐기물을 반탄화 반응을 이용하여 연료화하고자 한다. 하지만 음식물류폐기물만 단독으로 연료화 할 경우 연료적 가치가 낮아짐을 예방하고자 하수슬러지를 일정 비율로 혼합하여 진행하였다. 음식물류폐기물과 하수슬러지의 혼합비율은 10:0, 8:2, 6:4, 5:5로 하였다. 실험 결과 혼합 비율에 상관없이 반응온도 $240^{\circ}C$이상에서 함수율 10% 이하로 감소하는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 고정탄소의 경우 반응온도가 높아질수록, 하수슬러지의 비율이 높아질수록 증가하였으며, 초기 1.1%에서 최대 약 36% 로(혼합비율 6:4, 반응온도 $270^{\circ}C$) 측정 되었으며, 발열량의 경우 반응온도 $240^{\circ}C$부터 고형연료제품기준인 3,000Kcal/Kg 이상에 만족하는 발열량을 나타내었으며, 초기시료보다 약 6배 정도 증가한 발열량을 얻을 수 있었다. Van krevelen Diagram이 Lignite 범위까지 이동하였으며, 슬러지 혼합비율이 높아질수록 높은 연료비와 5,500Kcal/kg 이하의 연소성지수를 얻을 수 있었다. 하수슬러지 혼합 비율이 높아질수록 발열량은 감소하지만, 고정탄소 함량 증가, 연료비 개선 등으로 음식물류폐기물만 단독 고형연료화 한 것 보다 연료로써의 품질이 좋아지는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.

  • The aim of this study was to compare the spray characteristics of a typical fuel (100% diesel, DME) and diesel-DME blended fuel in a constant volume combustion chamber (CVCC). The typical fuel (100% diesel, DME) and diesel-DME blended fuel spray characteristics were investigated at various ambient pressures (pressurized nitrogen) and fuel injection pressures using a common rail fuel injection system when the fuel mixture ratio was varied. The fuel injection quantity and spray characteristics were measured including spray shape, penetration length, and spray angle. Common types of injectors were used.

다단연소를 이용한 저 NOx 버너의 연소특성에 관한 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Combustion Characteristics in Low Emission Multi-Staged Oil Burner)

  • The characteristics of combustion and emissions in multi-staged oil burner have been experimentally studied for the various range of equivalence ratios, drop sizes and fuel formulations. Malvern system was used to measure droplet size of fuel. Light fuel oil and light fuel oil doped with pyridine($C_5H _5N$) were used to investigate the effects on fuel NOx emission. The emissions of NO and CO in exhaust gas and the flame temperatures were measured by the gas analyzer and thennocouples. NOx emissions were increased by increasing the excess air ratio (range:$lambda=1.1-1.4$) or decreasing the SMD of droplet in single-staged burner. In comparison with the single-staged burner, the emission of NOx in multi-staged burner was reduced by 50% but CO emission was slightly increased. It is found that multi-staged burner has a good capability in reducing thermal NOx resulting from the distributed heat release rate and lower flame temperature in fuel-rich and fuel-lean combustion zone. Moreover, the fuel NOx emission of the multi-staged burner is lower than that of single-staged burner, because multi-staged burner has fuel rich zone where fuel N is converted to $N_2$ more than NO. In 3-staged burner, the percentage of each stage combustion air have strong influence on emission characteristics. It is also found that NOx emission can be reduced by decreasing inner and outer air percentage or increasing middle air flow rate and CO emission is vice versa.
