  • A low-noise regenerative blower is developed for fuel cell application by combining the FANDAS-Regen code and design optimization algorithm under several performance constraints for flow capacity, static pressure, efficiency and power consumption. The optimized blower design model is manufactured with some impeller modification based on low noise design concept and tested by using aerodynamic performance chamber facility and narrow-band noise measurement apparatus. The measured results of the optimized blower satisfy the performance requirements and are also compared favorably with the FANDAS-Regen prediction results within a few percent relative error. Furthermore, the present study shows the remarkable noise reduction by 26 dBA can be achieved through design optimization and low noise design concept.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the chemiluminescence characteristics in the spray combustion of ultransonically atomized kerosene. The radical intensity of the spray flame was measured using an ICCD camera and the amount of fuel consumed was obtained by a precise flow-rate measurement technique during combustion. Fuel consumption increased linearly with the increase in carrier-gas flow rate, and typical group combustion, which is a characteristic of spray combustion, was observed. It was found from the analysis of chemiluminescence that the maximum emission intensities of OH and CH radicals decrease, and they move downstream resulting in the increase in a vivid reaction zone as the spray flow rate increases.

  • The researches for reduce $CO_2$ are going along animatedly in hole industry area. In construction area, the researches to minimize $CO_2$ emission are progressing variously. The researches to minimize $CO_2$ emission based on $CO_2$ emission. The method measuring $CO_2$ emission are using $CO_2$ emission coefficient on fuel consumption, LCA and an inter-industry relation table. Especially, the methods using the carbon emission coefficient based on fuel consumption are 3 types(Tier1~Tier3) of IPCC. Present, the most using method(Tier1) is using the fuel consumption and the carbon emission coefficient. But because this method do not effect each vehicle distance and driving environment, we can't calculate right $CO_2$ emission. Especially construction project's $CO_2$ emission could be different by project's characteristic. However, we can't apply these difference with present methods. So we need methodology calculating $CO_2$ emission by applying personal project's characteristic and these methodology's most important things is directly measuring $CO_2$ emission of construction equipment which use energy. The object of this study is to develop the $CO_2$ emission calculation methodology which occur in construction process, is to suggest ways to measure in real time $CO_2$ emission from construction equipment.

  • Solubility of oil contaminants in surfactant solutions plays an important role in selecting a suitable surfactant type for soil remediation. Solubility measurement procedures consist of making an equilibrium between surfactant solution and oil, solvent extraction using dichloromethane, and condensation for gas chromatography analysis. Solubility measurement requires time consumption and lots of materials. Interfacial tension is the contracting force between two immiscible liquids, surfactant solution and oil, and also closely related to solubility of oil. This study established a relationship between the interfacial tension and solubility of diesel fuel in surfactant solution and suggested a quick method to estimate solubility of oil in a surfactant solution by measuring its interfacial tension. The results of this study showed that the solubility of diesel fuel in surfactant solution was exponentially increased by decreasing the interfacial tension between two immiscible liquids. The solubility of diesel fuel was significantly increased under the interfacial tension conditions below 1 dyne/cm, while the solubility change was not apparent under the interfacial tension conditions beyond 5 dyne/cm. Interfacial tension measurements may allow us to quickly select an efficient surfactant and its concentration for soil remediation.

  • Purpose: The objective of this paper was to compare test standards regarding the performance and safety of agricultural tractors to identify the differences in test conditions, measurement tolerances, and test procedures. Based on the comparison, some recommendations were proposed for possible revisions or improvements to current tractor test standards. Methods: The test standards and codes of major standards development organizations (SDOs), such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), EC type approval, and the board of actions of the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratories (NTTL), were selected and analyzed. Comparison of the test standards: The ISO provides references for fuel and lubricants for tractor tests, and the OECD provides additional measurements for calculating fuel consumption characteristics during the power take-off (PTO) tests. The ISO, EC type approval, and the ASABE provide PTO protective device and the safety requirements. During drawbar power tests, seven transmission ratios are selected for fully automatic transmissions, according to the OECD. In case of hydraulic lift tests, ISO 789-2 and OECD Code 2 advise the use of a static lift force, while SAE J283 advises the use of additional dynamic lift capacity tests for a better representation of in-field operations. The OECD, the ISO, and EC type approval determine the seat index point (SIP), whereas the ASABE determines the seat reference point (SRP) for roll-over protective structure (ROPS) tests. Diversified measurement tolerances were among the braking performance test standards. The European Union (EU) has developed daily limits for vibration exposures with adaptations from ISO 2631-1. Electromagnetic compatibility evaluations are emerging of high-efficiency tractors due to the long-term conformance to electromagnetic emissions and interferences. Comparisons of tractor test standards discussed in this paper are expected to provide useful information for tractor manufacturers and standards development personnel to improve the performance and safety test standards of tractors.

  • The maximum and mean indicated pressure of two stroke low speed diesel engine has been continuously increased with a view of increasing engine power and also reducing fuel consumption. As a result, axial excitation has been highed comparing to that of the previous and so in standard axial vibration damper is applied to all two stroke low speed diesel engine at the free end of crankshaft. Though many studies were carried out for marine use, few has been made for diesel power plant because there was little demand for power plant. Nowadays, diesel engine is much to be used for many benefits and so in this paper, the optimum design of axial vibration on the 65 MW diesel power plant with 9K80MC-S engine was carried out. And the axial-torsional coupled vibration of this shafting system is identified by theoretical analysis and vibration measurement.

  • Air pollution has been one of the severe problems in city area. Sulfur dioxide is the major pollutant among the air pollutants. And the lichen as a botanical indicator have been used to predict the air pollution level. This study was carried out to evaluate the air pollution level in Taejon area through the field survey which were checked lichen status and sulfur dioxide content in the atmosphere. The results were as follows 1. The average sulfur dioxide content in Taejon area was 0.031ppm. The comparison of measurement methods were regression equation, Y= 0.357$\times$+0.014 and correlation factor, r = 0.771. 2. The maximum point of the SO$_2$ level was site No. 2(Daehwa-Dong), 0.087 ppm and the minimum, site No. 8 (Doma 2-Dong), 0.009ppm. 3. Total amounts of sulfur dioxide yearly emitted from Taejon area by fuel consumption estimated 29829.6 tons. 4. • The forward and afterward parts of ships and offshore structures are designed to improve the fuel consumption performance. These are made of curved plates with a large thickness. If a fabricated curved plate has some dimensional errors, a lot of additional cost is incurred in the assembly process. Thus, an accurate dimensional assessment is very important for fabrication. In this paper, we propose an assessment method for the dimensional quality management of curved plates. This can be applied to data measured using a variety of three-dimensional instruments, with boundary measurement points automatically classified and sorted to create a measurement surface. The assessment is evaluated after matching the CAD surface and the measured surface considering constrained conditions. The fabrication assessment is evaluated as a probability of how much the tolerance is satisfied.
