축소 구획실에서 화원과 측벽의 거리에 따른 화재특성 변화 (Changes in Fire Characteristics according to the Distance Between the Fire Source and Sidewall in a Reduced-Scale Compartment)

  • 과환기 화재조건에서 화원과 측벽의 거리에 따른 화재특성에 관한 실험 및 수치해석 연구가 수행되었다. 1/3 축소된 ISO 9705 화재실이 제작되었으며, Spruce wood crib이 연료로 사용되었다. 구획 내부의 현상 이해를 위하여 Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS)를 활용한 시뮬레이션이 수행되었다. 개방된 공간 화재에 비해 구획실 화재는 벽면의 열 피드백 효과로 인하여 질량 감소율과 열발생률이 증가됨이 확인되었다. 측벽과 화원의 거리가 감소됨에 따라 화염으로의 공기 유입 제한에도 불구하고 주요 화재특성인 최대 질량 감소율, 열발생률, 화재 성장률, 온도 및 열유속이 증가되었다. 특히 측벽과 화원이 접촉되었을 때 이들 물리량의 가장 큰 변화가 확인되었다. 추가로 화원과 측벽의 거리에 따른 구획 내부의 유동구조의 변화로 인하여 온도의 수직분포에 상당한 변화가 발생됨이 확인되었다.

수소 저장용 탱크의 튜브 형상에 따른 온도분포 특성에 대한 수치해석 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Temperature Distribution Related to Geometry of Tube in Hydrogen Storage Vessel)

  • Recently, it is necessary for study on renewable energy due to environmental pollution and fossil fuel depletion. Therefore, in this study, the filling temperature according to the nozzle geometry was evaluated based on the limit temperature specified in SAEJ2601 for charging hydrogen, a new energy. There are three types of nozzles, normal, angle and round, fixed the average pressure ramp rate at 52.5 MPa/min, and the injection temperature was set at 293.4 K. As a result, the lowest temperature distribution was found in the round type, although the final temperature did not differ significantly in the three types of nozzles. In addition, Pearson's coefficient was calculated to correlate the mass flow rate with the heat transfer rate at the inner liner wall, which resulted in a strong linear relationship of 0.98 or higher.

Optimization and modification of PVDF dual-layer hollow fiber membrane for direct contact membrane distillation; application of response surface methodology and morphology study

  • RSM methodology was applied to present mathematical models for the fabrication of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) dual-layer hollow fibers in membrane distillation process. The design of experiments was used to investigate three main parameters in terms of polymer concentration in both outer and inner layers and the flow rate of dope solutions by the Box-Behnken method. According to obtained results, the optimization was done to present the proper membrane with desirable properties. The characteristics of the optimized membrane (named HF-O) suggested by the Box-Behnken (at the predicted point) showed that the proposed models are strongly valid. Then, a morphology study was done to modify the fiber by a combination of three types of a structure such as macro-void, sponge-like and sharp finger-like. It also improved the hydrophobicity of outer surface from 87 to $113^{\circ}$ and the mean pore size of the inner surface from 108.12 to 560.14 nm. The DCMD flux of modified fiber (named HF-M) enhanced 62% more than HF-O when it was fabricated by considering both of RSM and morphology study results. Finally, HF-M was conducted for long-term desalination process up to 100 hr and showed stable flux and wetting resistance during the test. These stepwise approaches are proposed to easily predict the main properties of PVDF dual-layer hollow fibers by valid models and to effectively modify its structure.

T-GDI 엔진의 속도 및 하중이 블로우바이 가스의 오일입자 크기와 오일분리기 성능에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험 및 수치적 연구 (Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Effect of Load and Speed of T-GDI Engine on the Particle Size of Blow-by Gas and Performance of Oil Mist Separator)

  • The worldwide focus on reducing the emissions, fuel and lubricant consumption in T-GDI engines is leading engineers to consider the crankcase ventilation and oil mist separation system as an important means of control. In today's passenger cars, the oil mist separation systems mainly use the inertia effect (e.g. labyrinth, cyclone etc.). Therefore, this study has investigated high efficiency cylinder head-integrated oil-mist separator by using a compact multi-impactor type oil mist separator system to ensure adequate oil mist separation performance. For this purpose, engine dynamometer testing with oil particle efficiency measurement equipment and 3D two-phase flow simulation have been performed for various engine operating conditions. Tests with an actual engine on a dynamometer showed oil aerosol particle size distributions varied depending on operating conditions. For instance, high rpm and load increases bot only blow-by gases but the amount of small size oil droplets. Submicron-sized particles (less than 0.5 ㎛) were also observed. It is also found that the impactor type separator is able to separate nearly no droplets of diameter lower than 3 ㎛. CFD results showed that the complex aerodynamics processes that lead to strong impingement and break-up can strip out large droplets and generate more small size droplets.

팽창기 사이클 수소 로켓엔진의 시스템 해석 (System Analysis of Expander Cycle Hydrogen Rocket Engine)

  • 본 연구에서는 액체 수소를 연료로 사용하는 팽창기 사이클 로켓 엔진의 시스템 해석을 위한 프로그램을 개발하였다. 수소의 물성치는 온도에 따른 이성질체의 비율을 고려하였다. 팽창기 사이클 엔진의 개방형과 폐쇄형 형식에 따른 해석 절차를 수립하고 부품별 해석 방법을 제시하였다. 본 해석 프로그램의 검증을 위해 팽창기 사이클 엔진인 Vinci와 SE-21D를 대상으로 엔진 작동점의 성능 및 국외에서 수행된 해석 결과와 비교하였다. 해석 결과, 입력 정보가 부정확한 일부를 제외한 추진제의 질유량, 비추력, 동력과 같은 시스템의 주요 성능 인자는 1~2% 내외의 오차로 높은 정확도를 나타내었다.

푸드서비스시설의 주방 설비 산정 매뉴얼 개발: 설렁탕 전문 식당 사례 적용 (Developement of a Design Manual for Kitchen Facility in Foodservice Outlets: A Case Study on a Seolleongtang Specialized Restaurant)

  • Concerns regarding work and food safety in foodservice operations are growing. The purpose of the study is to suggest guidelines for designing foodservice facilities, including school foodservices and Korean restaurants. A case of a franchise restaurant specializing in a Korean food item, Seolleongtang, was used to explain the facility design. The contents of the manual included ways to determine space allocation, calculate the application of utilities and the diameters of supply utility pipelines, and suggestions on how to decide on air conditioning equipment. The standards of the American Gas Association and the Japan Foodservice Equipment Association (JFEA) were applied to design the restaurant space. The JFEA standards and knowledge based on experience and statistics were applied to calculate the usage of utilities like fuel and water. The standards of JFEA and the Society of Heating, Air-Conditioning, and Sanitary Engineers of Japan were applied to calculate the diameters of the water supply and drainage pipelines. For the setting of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, three ways to carry out the calculation of effective ventilation were explained, as well as options to dicide the standard parameters of the duct and ventilation fans. This manual can contribute to the design of effective and efficient foodservice facilities and help secure the work safety of foodservice employees thereby ensuring food safety.

선박용 에너지 관리 시스템 알고리즘 검증을 위한 신호 연동 시뮬레이터 개발 (Development of signal linkage simulator for verification of Ships energy management system algorithm)

  • 전 세계적으로 선박의 배출물에 의한 환경 오염에 관심이 증가하여, 에너지 효율을 높여 선박 배출물 감소와 연료 소비 효율을 높이는 시스템 개발에 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 각 시스템은 소형 선박에서는 실증될 수 있으나, 대형 선박의 경우에는 실증에 대한 여건이 마땅치 않다. 현실적으로 대형 선박에 real time으로 구동되는 에너지 관리 시스템 제어기를 테스트하기 위해서는 시뮬레이터를 통한 테스트를 수행해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 각 제어 시스템과 에너지 관리 시스템을 연동할 수 있도록 각 신호를 Modbus TCP/IP에 맞게 주소를 설정하였으며, 신호의 흐름에 따라 알고리즘을 구성하였다. 또한, 각 제어기가 선박에서 수집하는 신호를 인위적으로 발생시킬 수 있도록 신호 발생기를 설계 및 제작하였다. 시뮬레이터 제작 및 연동 결과 real time으로 운용되는 각 제어기는 역할을 알맞게 수행하였으며, 선박용 에너지 관리 시스템의 알고리즘의 적용이 적절히 수행됨을 확인하였다.

Knowledge from recent investigations on sloshing motion in a liquid pool with solid particles for severe accident analyses of sodium-cooled fast reactor

  • Investigations on the molten-pool sloshing behavior are of essential value for improving nuclear safety evaluation of Core Disruptive Accidents (CDA) that would be possibly encountered for Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors (SFR). This paper is aimed at synthesizing the knowledge from our recent studies on molten-pool sloshing behavior with solid particles conducted at the Sun Yat-sen University. To better visualize and clarify the mechanism and characteristics of sloshing induced by local Fuel-Coolant Interaction (FCI), experiments were performed with various parameters by injecting nitrogen gas into a 2-dimensional liquid pool with accumulated solid particles. It was confirmed that under different particle-bed conditions, three representative flow regimes (i.e. the bubble-impulsion dominant, transitional and bed-inertia dominant regimes) are identifiable. Aimed at predicting the regime transitions during sloshing process, a predictive empirical model along with a regime map was proposed on the basis of experiments using single-sized spherical solid particles, and then was extended for covering more complex particle conditions (e.g. non-spherical, mixed-sized and mixed-density spherical particle conditions). To obtain more comprehensive understandings and verify the applicability and reliability of the predictive model under more realistic conditions (e.g. large-scale 3-dimensional condition), further experimental and modeling studies are also being prepared under other more complicated actual conditions.

선박 전력원에 에너지 저장장치 연계를 위한 제어 프로세스 설계 (Control process design for linking energy storage device to ship power source)

  • 본 연구에서는 에너지 저장장치인 배터리를 기존의 발전기 전력계통에 연계하기 위하여 양방향 전력의 흐름이 가능한 BDC(Bi-Directional Converter) 적용을 위해 모델링을 통하여 제어 프로세스를 설계하고, 해상 상황에 따라 변화하는 부하에 최적화된 전력 공급이 가능한 배터리의 충전 혹은 방전 메커니즘에 대하여 제안한다. 본 연구는 MATLAB/Simulink를 이용하여 BDC를 모델링 하였으며 부하 시나리오에 따라 배터리 충전 및 방전 시의 전류 제어 및 SOC(State Of Charge) 최적화를 시뮬레이션 하였다. 이를 통해 선내 운전되는 발전기가 최적운전 범위에 운전될 수 있도록 배터리와 전력 및 부하를 연동할 수 있도록 하였으며, 발전기가 높은 연료효율 범위에서 운전될 수 있도록 전력제어관리를 수행하였다.

BOTANI: High-fidelity multiphysics model for boron chemistry in CRUD deposits

  • We develop a new high-fidelity multiphysics model to simulate boron chemistry in the porous Chalk River Unidentified Deposit (CRUD) deposits. Heat transfer, capillary flow, solute transport, and chemical reactions are fully coupled. The evaporation of coolant in the deposits is included in governing equations modified by the volume-averaged assumption of wick boiling. The axial offset anomaly (AOA) of the Seabrook nuclear power plant is simulated. The new model reasonably predicts the distributions of temperature, pressure, velocity, volumetric boiling heat density, and chemical concentrations. In the thicker CRUD regions, 60% of the total heat is removed by evaporative heat transfer, causing boron species accumulation. The new model successfully shows the quantitative effect of coolant evaporation on the local distributions of boron. The total amount of boron in the CRUD layer increases by a factor of 1.21 when an evaporation-driven increase of soluble and precipitated boron concentrations is reflected. In addition, the concentrations of B(OH)3 and LiBO2 are estimated according to various conditions such as different CRUD thickness and porosity. At the end of the cycle in the AOA case, the total mass of boron incorporated in CRUD deposits of a reference single fuel rod is estimated to be about 0.5 mg.
