This study aims to investigate the impact of the High Pressure Selective Catalytic Reduction system (SCR-HP) on a large marine two-stroke engine performance parameters by employing thermodynamic modelling. A coupled model of the zero-dimensional type is extended to incorporate the modelling of the SCR-HP components and the Control Bypass Valve (CBV) block. This model is employed to simulate several scenarios representing the engine operation at both healthy and degraded conditions considering the compressor fouling and the SCR reactor clogging. The derived results are analysed to quantify the impact of the SCR-HP on the investigated engine performance. The SCR system pressure drop and the cylinder bypass valve flow cause an increase of the engine Specific Fuel Oil Consumption (SFOC) in the range 0.3-2.77 g/kWh. The thermal inertia of the SCR-HP is mainly attributed to the SCR reactor, which causes a delayed turbocharger response. These effects are more pronounced at low engine loads. This study supports the better understanding of the operating characteristics of marine two-stroke diesel engines equipped with the SCR-HP and quantification of the impact of the components degradation on the engine performance.

The gasification of coffee leaves, which are a type of biomass waste, was conducted on a pilot of a downdraft fixed gasification system to investigate the gasification characteristics. The experiment was performed using a coffee leaf pellet size and a batch-type gasification system consisting of a gasifier, cooling cyclone, scrubber, and bag filter. It was found that the air-to-fuel ratio was 2.32 Nm3/kg·h and the reaction temperature was 700 ℃-900 ℃. However, the air flow rate changed to 0.45 Nm3/min, which was lower than the initial starting value depending on the temperature change during the gasification process. It was concluded that coffee leaves can be converted from biomass waste into useful synthetic gas as an alternative energy source.

The Core Protection Calculator System (CPCS) is vital for plant safety as it ensures the required Specified Acceptance Fuel Design Limit (SAFDL) are not exceeded. The CPCS generates trip signals when Departure from Nucleate Boiling Ratio (DNBR) and Local Power Density (LPD) exceeds their predetermined setpoints. These setpoints are established based on the operating margin from the analysis that produces the SAFDL values. The goal of this research is to create a simplified CPCS that optimizes operating margin for I-SMRs. Because the I-SMR is compact in design, instrumentation placement is a challenge, as it is with Ex-core detectors and RCP instrumentation. The proposed CPCS addresses the issue of power flux measurement with In-Core Instrumentation (ICI), while flow measurement is handled with differential pressure transmitters between Steam Generators (SG). Simplification of CPCS is based on a Look-Up-Table (LUT) for determining the CEA groups' position. However, simplification brings approximations that result in a loss of operational margin, which necessitates compensation. Appropriate compensation is performed based on the result of analysis. FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) are presented as a way to compensate for the inadequacies of current systems by providing faster execution speeds and a lower Common Cause Failure rate (CCF).

APro, developed in KAERI for the process-based total system performance assessment (TSPA) of deep geological disposal systems, performs finite element method (FEM)-based multiphysics analysis. In the FEM-based analysis, the mesh element quality influences the numerical solution accuracy, memory requirement, and computation time. Therefore, an appropriate mesh structure should be constructed before the mesh stability analysis to achieve an accurate and efficient process-based TSPA. A generic reference case of DECOVALEX-2023 Task F, which has been proposed for simulating stationary groundwater flow and time-dependent conservative transport of two tracers, was used in this study for mesh stability analysis. The relative differences in tracer concentration varying mesh structures were determined by comparing with the results for the finest mesh structure. For calculation efficiency, the memory requirements and computation time were compared. Based on the mesh stability analysis, an approach based on adaptive mesh refinement was developed to resolve the error in the early stage of the simulation time-period. It was observed that the relative difference in the tracer concentration significantly decreased with high calculation efficiency.
The CRUD on the fuel cladding under the pressurized water reactor (PWR) operating condition causes several issues. The CRUD can act as thermal resistance and increases the local cladding temperature which accelerate the corrosion process. The hideout of boron inside the CRUD results in axial offset anomaly and reduces the plant's shutdown margin. Recently, there are efforts to revise the acceptance criteria of emergency core cooling systems (ECCS), and additionally require the modeling of the thermal resistance effect of the CRUD during the performance analysis. There is an urgent need for the evaluation of the effect of the CRUD deposition on the cladding heat transfer under PWR operating conditions, but the experimental database is very limited. The experimental facility called DISNY was designed and constructed to analyze the CRUD-related multi-physical phenomena, and the performance analysis of the constructed DISNY facility was conducted. The thermal-hydraulic and water chemistry conditions to simulate the CRUD growth under PWR operating conditions were established. The design characteristics and feasibility of the DISNY facility were validated by the MARS-KS code analysis and separate performance tests. In the current study, detailed design features, design validation results, and future utilization plans of the proposed DISNY facility are presented.

Recently, the cement industry has been using various wastes as raw materials and fuel for cement as an eco-friendly business. However, most of these waste resources contain large amounts of chloride and alkali, which are concentrated in manufacturing facilities and adversely affect cement production products. Accordingly, in the cement production process, the chlorine ion contained in cement is managed by introducing the Chlorine Bypass System (CBS) into the manufacturing facility and releasing the dust. However, the processing volume of CBS-Dust has been limited due to the shortage of domestic processing companies, and the cost has also been raised, requiring measures to be taken in dealing with CBS-Dust. In this study, rheological properties of CBS-Dust incorporated paste are tested. With the increase of CBS-Dust, flow was decreased due to enhanced viscosity.

This study analyzes pressure distribution and pressure drop in the receptacle used in charging system of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The objective is to minimize receptacle-induced pressure drop by redesigning internal flow channels. Through numerical simulations, three receptacle variants are compared with a baseline case. Results show reduced pressure drop in the filter section. However, the check valve section exhibits higher pressure drop, requiring further improvement. By increasing throat diameter, pressure drop is decreased by 28% between inlet and outlet of the receptacle. This study shows the relationship between dynamic pressure and pressure drop, providing a guideline for receptacle performance optimization. The redesigned receptacle offers potential for enhancing hydrogen charging efficiency.

To ensure the safety of disposal facilities for radioactive waste, it is essential to quantitatively evaluate the performance of the waste disposal facilities by using safety assessment models. This paper addresses the development of the safety assessment model for the underground silo of Wolseong Low-and Immediate-Level Waste (LILW) disposal facility in Korea. As the simulated result, the nuclides diffused from the waste were kept inside the silo without the leakage of those while the integrity of the concrete is maintained. After the degradation of concrete, radionuclides migrate in the same direction as the groundwater flow by mainly advection mechanism. The release of radionuclides has a positive linear relationship with a half-life in the range of medium half-life. Additionally, the solidified waste form delays and reduces the migration of radionuclides through the interaction between the nuclides and the solidified medium. Herein, the phenomenon of this delay was implemented with the mass transfer coefficient of the flux node at numerical modeling. The solidification effects, which are delaying and reducing the leakage of nuclides, were maintained the integrity of the nuclides. This effect was decreased by increasing the half-life and the mass transfer coefficient of radionuclides.
The purpose of this study, the trend of renewable energy, domestic and foreign renewable energy policies, and the flow of the legal system related to renewable energy location were identified, and a location analysis using public data was studied when solar energy was located. First, renewable energy is leading to energy conversion by reducing the proportion of existing fossil fuel-centered energy sources in the global trend and increasing the proportion of renewable energy, an eco-friendly energy source, and changing the institutional and market structure. Second, large-scale solar energy power plants are installed and operated in rural areas where there is no change in insolation and land prices are cheaper than in urban areas where there are many changes in insolation due to surrounding high-rise buildings and street trees. Third, if a preliminary location review is conducted using public data at this time, it will be easy to identify the optimal location for area and size calculation. Fourth, the solar energy location functional area was studied in area A, and the total area of the target area was 624.5km2, with 392.7km2 and 62.9% of the avoidance area where solar power cannot be located.

This study presents a CRUD modelling to simulate the thermal resistance behavior of CRUD, deposited on the surface of a cladding tube of a fuel assembly. When heat produced from fuels transfers to a coolant through a cladding tube, the CRUD acting as an additional thermal resistance is expressed as two layers, i.e., a solid oxide layer and an imaginary fluid layer, which are added to the experimental tube's heat structure of the MARS-KS input data. The validation calculation for the experiments performed in UNIST-DISNY facility showed that the center and surface temperatures of the cladding tube increased as the porosity and the steam amount inside pores of the CRUD got higher. In addition, the temperature gradient in the imaginary fluid layer was calculated to be larger than that in the solid oxide part, indicating that the steam amount inside the layer acted more largely as thermal resistance. It was also evaluated through sensitivity calculations that the cladding tube temperature was more sensitive to the CRUD porosity and the steam amount in pores than to the inlet flow rate of the coolant.
