  • Many research studies have been carried out related to saving energy and environmental pollution in the field of construction machinery. The best solution for reducing the related environmental pollution is to reduce fuel consumption by upgrading the energy efficiency of machinery used in this field. An efficiency upgrade in the field of construction machinery would mean minimizing the pressure loss in hydraulic pipe lines or achieving optimal operating conditions while responding to a load. One way to achieve this is to make an equivalent circuit, like an electrohydrostatic actuator, or to improve the spool type valve using the 4/3 way method. This study deals with an electrohydraulic proportional flow control valve. SimulationX software is used as a simulation tool for analyzing the dynamic characteristics. The analysis results, including the performance and characteristics of design parameters, are discussed and the validity of the theoretical analysis is also evaluated.

  • 추력 75톤급 액체로켓엔진용 터보펌프 조립체 실물형에 대하여 정격 회전수에서 성능시험이 수행되었다. 실매질 대신 상사매질을 사용하였는데 산화제펌프에는 액체질소, 연료펌프에는 물, 터빈에는 고온 공기가 공급되었다. 시험 중 터보펌프는 안정적으로 운전되었으며 성능 요구조건을 만족시켰다. 운전 초기의 회전수 상승구간에서도 펌프의 양정계수와 유량계수는 일정하게 유지되었다. 터보펌프 단품성능시험과 조립체 성능시험 결과를 비교할 때 펌프 양정계수와 터빈 효율이 두 종류의 성능시험에서 비교적 잘 일치하였다.

  • 항공용 가스터빈 엔진은 운용 범위가 넓으며 고고도에서 운용되므로 극한 환경조건에서의 운용을 요구하며 높은 신뢰성을 요구한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 혹독한 환경에서 높은 수준의 신뢰성 있는 연소기 개발을 위한 연소기 리그시험 및 엔진 단위의 운용 안정성 평가를 수행, 최적화하였으며, 엔진개발 단계에서 수립된 시동로직을 반영하여 고고도 운전영영에서의 시동 및 운용 안정성을 검증하였다. 리그 및 엔진시험 결과, air swirler가 장착된 인젝터를 적용할 경우, 20kft Hot day 및 $-40^{\circ}C$에서 정상적인 운용 및 시동이 이루어졌다.

Investigation of Soot Formation in a D.I. Diesel Engine by Using Laser Induced Scattering and Laser Induced Incandescence

  • Soot has a great effect on the formation of PM (Particulate Matter) in D.I. (Direct Injection) Diesel engines. Soot in diesel flame is formed by incomplete combustion when the fuel atomization and mixture formation were poor. Therefore, the understanding of soot formation in a D.I. diesel engine is mandatory to reduce PM in exhaust gas. To investigate soot formation in diesel combustion, various measurements have been performed with laser diagnostics. In this study, the relative soot diameter and the relative number density in a DJ. engine was measured by using LIS (Laser Induced Scattering) and LII (Laser Induced Incandescence) methods simultaneously which are planar imaging techniques. And a visualization D.I. diesel engine was used to introduce a laser beam into the combustion chamber and investigate the diffusion flame characteristics. To find the optimal condition that reduces soot formation in diesel combustion, various injection timing and the swirl flow in the cylinder using the SCV (Swirl Control Valve) were applied. From this experiment, the effects of injection timing and swirl on soot formation were established. Effective reduction of soot formation is possible through the control of these two factors.

  • Growing concerns regarding environmental pollution have increased the demand for green vehicles. Green vehicles include electric vehicles, compressed natural gas vehicles, fuel cell vehicles, and vehicles running on fuels such as bio diesel or an ethanol blend. CNG vehicles are equipped with a cylinder valve installed in a high-pressure vessel to control the CNG flow. For this purpose, the optimum design of cylinder valve solenoid is necessary to secure at driving a CNG vehicle. In this study, electromagnetic field analysis to ensure the reliable operation of the solenoid was conducted by using a Maxwell V15. The electromagnetic field analysis was performed by magnetostatic technique according to distance between magnetic poles in order to predict the attraction force. Finally, the attraction force was validated through comparison between the Maxwell results and the measurement results. From the results, the error of attraction force was found to be 2.85 N to 6.5 N under the testing conditions.

  • Pulverized coal (PC) has become an important auxiliary fuel in the iron and steel industry since the technique of pulverized coal injection (PCI) was developed for iron making. The combustion efficiencies of pulverized coal in blowpipes and tuyeres under various operational conditions are numerically predicted to determine the performance levels with regard to different locations of the nozzles in a blast furnace. A variety of parameters, including the pulverized coal quantities, oxygen amounts, inlet temperatures of the tuyeres, and the mass flow rate of coal carrier gas are taken into consideration. Also, in order to develop greater efficiency than those of existing coal injection systems, this study applies a flame measurement system using a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera and a frame grabber. It uses auto sampling algorithms from the flame shape information to determine the device for the optimal location control for PCI. This study finds further improvements of the blast furnace performance via the control of the PCI locations.

플랜트의 구성을 고려한 IGCC용 가스터빈의 성능해석 (Performance Analysis of a Gas Turbine for IGCC Considering Plant Configuration)

  • Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) is an environment friendly method of using coal. Several commercial IGCC plants have been built worldwide during the past decade, and a domestic development project has also been launched recently. Operation and performance characteristics of a gas turbine in the IGCC plant deviates from those of original gas turbines due to several factors such as increased amount of fuel supply and integration with other components. In this study, performance of a gas turbine in the IGCC plant is analyzed considering its integration with the air separation unit (ASU). Influence of the degree of integration (split of air supplies to ASU from the auxiliary compressor and the gas turbine compressor) on the system performance is investigated. In addition, effect of modulating nitrogen return flow from the gasifier to the gas turbine on the operating characteristics of the gas turbine is examined.

동축공기 수소 난류확산화염에서의 화염안정성에 대한 실험적 연구 (Study of Hydrogen Turbulent Non-premixed Flame Stabilization in Coaxial Air Flow)

  • It was experimentally studied that the stabilization mechanism of turbulent, lifted jet flames in a non-premixed condition to reveal the newly found liftoff height behavior of hydrogen jet. The objectives are to report the phenomenon of a liftoff height decreasing as increasing fuel velocity, to analyse the flame structure and behavior of the lifted jet, and to explain the mechanisms of flame stability in hydrogen turbulent non-premixed jet flames. The hydrogen jet velocity was changed from 100 to 300m/s and a coaxial air velocity was fixed at 16m/s with a coflow air less than 0.1m/s. For the simultaneous measurement of velocity field and reaction zone, PIV and OH PLIF technique was used with two Nd:Yag lasers and CCD cameras. As a result, it was found that the stabilization of lifted hydrogen diffusion flames is correlated with a turbulent intensity and Karlovitz number.

Determination of an Optimum Orbiting Radius for an Oil-Less Scroll Air Compressor

  • Design practice has been made on an oil-less scroll air compressor as an air supply device for a 2 kW fuel cell system where air pressure of 2 bar and flow rate of 120 liter/min are required. Basic structure of the scroll compressor includes double-sided scroll wrap for the orbiting scroll driven by two crankshafts connected to each other by a timing belt. These features can eliminate thrust surface which otherwise would produce frictional heat and jeopardize reliable operation of the orbiting scroll and the scroll element's deformation as well. This study focuses on optimum scroll wrap design; orbiting radius has been chosen as an independent design parameter. As the orbiting radius changes, scroll sizes such as scroll base plate and discharge port diameters change accordingly. Gas compression-related losses and mechanical loss also change with the orbiting radius. With a scroll base plate diameter of 120mm at most and discharge port of at least 10mm, the orbiting radius should be within the range of 2.5-4.0mm. With this range of the orbiting radius, it was estimated by performance analysis that the compressor efficiency reached to a maximum of ${\eta}_c$=96% at the orbiting radius of $r_s$=3.5mm for the scroll wrap height-to-thickness ratio of h/t=5.
