Electronic speckle contouring(ESC) is the optical method for measuring shape by using fringe-projection techniques in electronic speckle pattern interferometry. It has the advantage of being non-contacting and can also give a field view of the surface under investigation. Fringes in ESC represent the difference in depth along the view direction between the master wavefront and the test component. The contour maps of three-dimensional diffuse objects are obtained by small shifts of optical fiber carrying the dual-object-beams and 4-frame phase shift. We proposed the contouring method by shifting the collimated illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. And also, we performed addition of incremental addition of images and experiments based on it. we obtained both quantitative increment without decorrelation effect and qualitative improvement by reducing the noise of contour fringes.
Point contact film thickness in elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) is analyzed by image processing method for the images from an optical interferometer with monochromatic incident light. Interference between the reflected lights both on half mirror Cr coating of glass disk and on super finished ball makes circular fringes depending on the contact conditions such as sliding velocity, applied load, viscosity-pressure characteristics and viscosity of lubricant under ambient pressure. In this situation the film thickness is regarded as the difference of optical paths between those reflected lights, which make dark and bright fringes with monochromatic incident light. The film thickness is computed by numbering the dark and bright fringe orders and the intensity (gray scale image) in each fringe regime is mapped to the corresponding film thickness. In this work, we developed a measuring technique for EHL film thickness by dividing the image patterns into two typical types under the condition of monochromatic incident light. During the image processing, the captured image is converted into digitally formatted data over the contact area without any loss of the image information of interferogram and it is also interpreted with consistency regardless of the observer's experimental experience. It is expected that the developed image processing method will provide a valuable basis to develop the image processing technique for color fringes, which is generally used for the measurement of relatively thin films in higher resolution.
As a preparatory study for Global Positioning System-Very Long Baseline Interferometry (GPS-VLBI) hybrid system, we examined if VLBI type observation of the GPS signal is realizable through a test experiment. The test experiment was performed between Kashima and Koganei, Japan, with 110 km baseline. The GPS L1 and L2 signals were received by commercial GPS antennas, down-converted to video-band signals by specially developed GPS down converters, and then sampled by VLBI samplers. The sampled GPS data were recorded as ordinary VLBI data by VLBI recorders. The sampling frequency was 64 MHz and the observation time was 1 minute. The recorded data were correlated by a VLBI correlator. From correlation results, we simultaneously obtained correlation fringes from all 8 satellites above a cut-off elevation which was set to 15 degree. 87.5% of L1 fringes and 12.5% of L2 fringes acquired the Signal to Noise Ratios which are sufficient to achieve the group delay precision of 0.1nsec that is typical in current geodetic VLBI. This result shows that VLBI type observation of GPS satellites will be readily realized in future GPS-VLBI hybrid system.

Electronic speckle contouring(ESC) based on electronic speckle pattern interferometry is the optical method for measuring object shape by using fringe-projection techniques. This method has the advantages of being non-contact, non-destructive and a whole-field measurement of the surface under investigation. Fringes in ESC represent the difference in depth along the view direction between the master wavefront and the test component. The contour maps of three-dimensional diffuse objects can be obtained by small shifts of optical fiber carrying the dual-object-beams and 4-frame phase shifting. In this study we proposed the contouring method by shifting the collimated illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. And also, we performed the addition of incremental images through the geometrical analysis to obtain the contour fringe interval when we performed the incremental addition of images and experiments based on this method. We obtained both quantitative increment without decorrelation effect and qualitative improvement by reducing the noise of contour fringes.

Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) has been used to measure surface deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial areas. ESPI, a non-contact and non-destructive technique, is capable of providing full-field results with high spatial resolution and high speed. One of the important application using electronic speckle pattern interferometry is electronic speckle contouring of a diffused object for 3-D shape analysis and topography measurement. Generally the electronic speckle contouring is suitable for providing measurement range from millimeters to several centimeters. In this study, we introduce the contouring method by modified dual-beam speckle pattern interferometer and the shift of the two illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. We also describe formation process of depth contour fringes and grid contour fringes by shifting direction of the two illumination beams. Before the experiments, we performed the geometric analysis for dual-beam-shifted ESPI contouring, and then, the electronic speckle contouring experiment with various specimens. For quantitative analysis of the contour fringes, we used 4-frame phase shifting method with PZT Finally, good agreement between the geometric analysis and experimetal results is obtained.

A new hardware compensation method reducing displacement measurement errors, caused by tilt of index scale in moire linear encoders, has been developed. In conventional moire linear encoders, the detectors are aligned perpendicular to the line of moire fringes this structure is very sensitive to an unwanted tilt of the gratings. In this paper, a newly designed grating, called a phase-modulated grating, is developed to compensate for non-orthogonal errors. By using the phase-modulated grating instead of a conventional index, it is possible to reduce non-orthogonal errors of moire linear encoders.

This paper describes as Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry system which has been designed for measuring vibration patterns and quantitative measurement of vibration amplitude fields by using the time average method on a object. Visbility of fringe patterns is more improved by using the phase stepping and frame average method to reduce speckle and electric noise. And a bias vibration is introduced into the reference beam to shift the $\frac{2}{0}$ fringes so that fringe shift algorithms can be used to determine vibration amplitude. The experimental results are compared to those of the FFT analyzer and the FEM model analysis.
A new polariscope system involving two rotating optical elements and a digital camera for whole field fringe analysis allows automated data to be acquired quickly and efficiently. The developed phase measuring technique that uses eight images through a circular polariscope is presented for the digital measurement of isochromatics and isoclinics, respectively, from photoelastic fringes in a circular disk under diametric compression. Isochromatics can directly be obtained using wrapped isoclinic phases calculated by the arc tangent operator which is the four-quadrant operator from -$\pi$ to $\pi$. It is not required to unwrap isoclinic phases for the calculations of isochromatics. Unwrapped isoclinics are directly determined from isochromatic parameters. Distributions of digitally determined isoclinics are in close agreement to manual measurements. The errors which would appear in unwrapping process of isoclinics can be avoided in the determination of isochromatics.
Stress and displacement fields for a propagating crack in a functionally gradient material (FGM) which has exponentially varying elastic and physical properties along the direction of the crack propagation, are derived. The equations of motion in nonhomogeneous material are developed using displacement potentials. The solutions to the displacement fields and the stress fields for a crack propagating at constant speed along the gradient are obtained through an asymptotic analysis. The influences of nonhomogeneity on the higher order terms of the stress fields are explicitly brought out. Using these stress components, isochromatic fringes around the stationary crack are generated at crack for different nonhomogeneity and the effects of nohonhomgeneity on these fringes are discussed.

A method of digital image processing thechnique, which can multiply and sharpen isochromatic fringes in photoelasticity on both occasions, is developed. To test the method, photoelastic fringe patterns of a disk compressed by two diametrically opposite cocentrated loads are simulated and these patterns are processed to yield sharpened lines. The method is then aplied to measurement of residual stresses in glass bar. The procedure is proved to be capable of extraction sharpened lines accurately from photoelastic multiplied fringes, and yields good experimental results consistently and precisely.
