The Relation between Male Adolescent Friendship Jealousy and Maladaptive Emotion Regulation Strategies and Aggression (남자 청소년의 우정관계에서 발생하는 질투정서와 부적응적 정서조절전략 및 공격성과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between male adolescent friendship jealousy and maladaptive emotion regulation strategies and aggression. The subjects were 204 middle school second graders. The main findings of the study were as follows, 1) There was a significant correlation between friendship jealousy and all emotion types. 2) The type of friendship jealousy was significantly different according to the maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. 3) The type of friendship jealousy was significantly different according to relational aggression. 4) The relational aggression was affected by blaming-others strategies.

Variables Affecting the Expression of Friendship and Jealousy in Adolescents (청소년의 우정관계 질투표현에 영향을 미치는 변인)

  • This study used the hypothetical path model to investigate individual traits(attachment, reciprocal relationship, and self-esteem), situational evaluation(justification, and intention) and jealousy level in adolescents. Subjects were 853 7th, 9th, 11th grade students in the city of Daegu. Results showed that scores of girls were higher than boys on self-reported and peer-reported jealousy level, attachment, reciprocal relationship, adaptive expression and non-adaptive expression. Scores of boys were higher than girls for self-esteem, justification. Self-reported jealousy level was affected by situation evaluation(justification and intention) and attachment. Peer-reported jealousy level was affected by reciprocal relationship. Jealousy expression modes were affected by self-reported jealousy level and attachment.

The influence of parental psychological control perceived by middle school students on relational aggression: The mediating effect of rejection sensitivity and friendship jealousy (중학생이 지각한 부모의 심리적 통제가 관계적 공격성에 미치는 영향: 거부민감성과 우정관계 질투의 매개효과)

  • This study investigated the effect of parental psychological control on relational aggression among middle school students, the mediating effects of rejection sensitivity and friendship jealousy, and whether there were differences in these variables by the demographic characteristics of gender and family form. Data of 554 middle school students living in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do were used for the final analysis. There were two major results. The first major result was what rejection sensitivity and friendship jealousy sequentially mediated the relationship between parental psychological control and relational aggression. The second major result was gender differences which was shown by a multi-group analysis to examine in the path from parental psychological control to rejection sensitivity, the path from parental psychological control to relational aggression, and the path from friendship jealousy to relational aggression. This study was meaningful in that it expanded the understanding of relational aggression and identified directions for therapeutic interventions.
