  • This study investigated the enhanced combustion efficiency of an "air-cooled combustion system" with single F.D. fan, and performed a numerical analysis for the operation and design conditions to increase the combustion efficiency. The combustion efficiency in an actual combustor was compared before and after the structure modification. Numerical analysis for application of a single fan revealed the difficulty of forming a turbulence for circular combustion conditions. This is because the supply ratio of combustion air supplied into 2 flow paths becomes irregular in the combustion furnace due to a change in friction force and pressure in each flow path. Subsequently, two methods of supplying air into the combustion furnace were analyzed numerically to obtain the optimal combustion conditions of an air-cooled combustion system. The first method involved injecting the preheated combustion air after a 180~360 degree rotation from the outer wall, whereas in the second method, the combustion air was injected into the combustion furnace in a tangential direction after primary heat exchange outside the combustion furnace, by applying a rotatable vane structure in the combustion furnace. Results reveal that application of a single F.D. fan to the air injection into a rotatable combustion furnace is desirable for optimization of the combustion conditions for applying a duct structure having a dual cooling wall for the cooling of the outer wall of the combustion furnace, and for maintaining perfect mixing in the combustion furnace. We therefore confirmed enhanced combustion efficiency by comparing the actual combustion efficiency before and after structure modification.

  • Design chart solution and table solution were proposed by Choi et al. (2019a), which conducted a parametric numerical study for the bored PHC piles socketed into weathered rocks through sandy soil layers. Based on the Choi et al. (2019a), the new prediction formulae for mobilized capacity components such as total capacity, total skin friction and skin friction of sand at the settlement of 5% pile diameter were proposed in this study. The proposed prediction formulae (EQ-G1) considers pile diameter, relative embedment length and ${\bar{N}}$ (i.e, corrected N) value and their verification results are as follows. The SRF calculated from the new proposed design method was 71~94%, which are greatly improved compared with results by the existing design method. The design efficiency of bearing capacity was in the range of reasonable design except 4 cases, and the design efficiency of the PHC pile was evaluated as 85%. Therefore, it is possible that allowable compressive load (Pall) of PHC pile can be utilized in the resonable design by means of the new proposed method using EQ-G1 equations. And the other new proposed equations of EQ-G2-3 can be utilized approximately in calculation of axial compressive bearing capacity components for prebored PHC pile.

  • The estimation of pile bearing capacity is important since the design details are determined from the result. There are numerous ways of determining the pile design load, but only few of them are chosen in the actual design. According to the recent investigation in Korea, the formulas proposed by Meyerhof based on the SPT N values are most frequently chosen in the design stage. In the study, various static and dynamic formulas have been used in predicting the allowable bearing capacity of a pile. Further, the reliability of these formulas has been verified by comparing the perdicted values with the static and dynamic load test measurements. Also in cases, these methods of pile bearing capacity determination do not take the time effect consideration, the actual allowable load as determined from pile load test indicates severe deviation from the design value. The principle results of this study are summarized as follows : A a result of estimate the reliability in criterion of the Davisson method, in was showed that Terzaghi & Peck > Chin > Meyerhof > Modified Meyerhof method was the most reliable method for the prediction of bearing capacity. Comparisons of the various pile-driving formulas showed that Modified Engineering News was the most reliable method. However, a significant error happened between dynamic bearing capacity equation was judged that uncertainty of hammer efficiency, characteristics of variable , time effect etc... was not considered. As a result of considering time effect increased skin friction capacity higher than end bearing capacity. It was found out that it would be possible to increase the skin friction capacity 1.99 times higher than a driving. As a result of considering 7 day's time effect, it was obtained that Engineering News. Modified Engineering News. • In order to investigate the influence of the interfacial angel on failure characteristics and mechanism of combined coal-rock mass, 35 uniaxial/biaxial compressive simulation tests with 5 different interfacial angels of combined coal-rock samples were conducted by PFC2D software. The following conclusions are drawn: (1) The compressive strength and cohesion decrease with the increase of interfacial angle, which is defined as the angle between structure plane and the exterior normal of maximum principal plane, while the changes of elastic modulus and internal friction angle are not obvious; (2) The impact energy index $K_E$ decreases with the increase of interfacial angle, and the slip failure of the interface can be predicted based on whether the number of acoustic emission (AE) hits has multiple peaks or not; (3) There are four typical failure patterns for combined coal-rock samples including I (V-shaped shear failure of coal), II (single-fracture shear failure of coal), III (shear failure of rock and coal), and IV (slip rupture of interface); and (4) A positive correlation between interfacial angle and interface effect is shown obviously, and the interfacial angle can be divided into weak-influencing scope ($0-15^{\circ}$), moderate-influencing scope ($15-45^{\circ}$), and strong-influencing scope (> $45^{\circ}$), respectively. However, the confining pressure has a certain constraint effect on the interface effect.

  • The USM uses friction between a mobile part (rotor) and a vibration part(stator), which is different from the principle of the conventional motor based on the interaction of electric and magnetic fields. In this thesis, a flat-type $L_1-B_8$ mode USM was designed and fabricated the characteristics of an ultrasonic vibration. The results of fabricated USM are as follows: (1) In case of ultrasonic motor with elastic-body of stainless, when applied voltage, frequency, pressing force of rotor were 50 [V], 27.9 [kHz], 1.5 [N], 5.0[mN m] respectively, the speed of revolution could be presented up to 0 [cm/s]. (2) In case of ultrasonic motor with elastic-body of brass, when applied voltage, frequency, pressing force of rotor were 50 [V], 21.4 [kHz], 1.5 [N], 1.4[mN m]respectively, the speed of rotor revolution was presented up to 0 [cm/s]. (3) The USM of elastic-body of stainless showing 1.17[%], somewhat low, in the maximum efficiency according to torque was superior to the USM of elastic-body of brass showing 0.34 [%]. The Flat-type $L_1-B_8$ mode USM had characteristics of typical drooping torque-speed, large torque and high speed, and operating in both directions by phase reversal.

  • Oil hydraulic piston pumps are being extensively used around the world, because of their simple design, light weight, effective cost, etc. An oil hydraulic pump is likely to have the serious problems of high leakage, friction, and low energy efficiency after a long period of use. In an oil hydraulic piston pump, the clearance between the valve block and piston plays an important role for volumetric and overall efficiency. In this study, the wear property of the SACM645 material with DLC coating used for a hydraulic piston pump was determined by experimentation with variable heat treatment. To investigate the effect according to the piston surface condition, five different types of specimens were prepared. The maximum tensile strengths of the QT and QT Nitration specimens had similar values of about 800 MPa, but the strains indicated a big difference. In a wear test, the wear characteristic of the DLC coating specimen was shown to be excellent. The QT, QT + IH, QT + Nitration, and matirx specimen showed similar wear characteristics. In the case of a dry condition without oil, the DLC coating specimen had good wear resistance, with no wear shown.

  • Oil hydraulic piston pumps are extensively used worldwide because of their simple design, light weight, and cost effectiveness. However, an oil hydraulic pump is likely to have high leakage, friction, and low energy efficiency after long-term use. In oil hydraulic piston pumps the clearance between the valve block and the piston plays an important role in the volumetric and overall efficiency. We studied the wear property of the SACM645 material used in hydraulic piston pumps via experiments with different heat treatments. We prepared three different specimens. The maximum tensile strengths of the QT and QT-nitration specimens are similar (about 820 MPa), but the strains are significantly different. However, the fatigue characteristic depended on the heat treatment.

  • In this paper, the characteristics analysis of LMD track, such as including track structure, track wear resistance and track thickness, were analyzed to enhance the deposition efficiency using a diode-pumped disk laser. SKD61 hot work steel plate and Fe based AISI M2 alloy were used as a the substrate and powder for the LMD process, respectively. The laser power, track pitch and powder feed rate among LMD parameters were adopted to estimate the deposition efficiency. As the laser power is increased, heat input and melting pool on the substrate is grown also increases, so resulting in the increased LMD track thickness was increased. Through EPMA mapping analysis of the cross-section in the LMD track, it was observed that all the elements are evenly distributed inside. Therefore, the entire hardness in the LMD track is expected to be almost uniform regardless of location. The characteristics of the LMD specimen were excellent compared to the STD11 specimen in terms of the wear track width and the wear rate as well as the coefficient of friction. Especially the wear rate of LMD specimen has been significantly reduced by 60 % or more. From Based on the experimental results, the prediction formula of LMD thickness was calculated by using laser power, track pitch and powder feed rate.

  • This study describes to analyze the pressure drop characteristics for the air-particle flow in pneumatic coal powder conveying system and to proper design of the orifice located in the system to enhance combustion efficiency in furnace of the coal-fired power plant. Usually the system consists of the straight type pipe, the curved type pipe and the elbow, which cause increase of the pressure drop. In this study, the pressure drop arised in the system with straight and curved type pipes is analyzed with interactions of motion of air flow and particles. It is realized that total pressure drop increases with increasing of the pipe length and the angle of curved type pipe due to friction loss of air and particles in the system. The program for analysis of the pressure drop and optimum design of the orifice size for air flow control in the system is developed. The result is also compared with the existing system.
