In 2000, the economy of Asia made a V-character type recovery from the currency and financial crisis in 1997. The increase in exports is assumed to be one of the causes. To negotiate with foreign countries, English must be indispensable in many cases. In this study, we investigated how English education is performed in East Asian countries while focusing on English textbooks. We metrically analyzed some textbooks used junior high schools and high school in Japan and Korea, and elementary schools in China and Singapore to compare them with U.S.A and U.K textbook. We investigated some characteristics of character-and word-appearance of English textbook using an exponential function. Moreover we derived the degree of difficulty far each material through the variety of words and their frequency on the basis of the required English vocabulary in Japanese junior high schools. As a result we could show at which level of U.S.A. or U.K the English textbooks used in East Asian countries are.

The purpose of this study was to examine the factors affecting financial management behavior and financial satisfaction of husbands and wives. The data were collected from 212 couples living in Pusan and Kyungnam region by the self-administered questionnaire. The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) the communication frequency of husbands and wives was an important factor affecting financial management behavior and financial satisfaction for them; (2) financial management behavior was an important variable affecting financial satisfaction for husbands and wives; and (3) financial satisfaction of husbands and wives were affected by monthly saying. From these findings, it is suggested that the financial management program focusing on the ways to increase communication among family members and to implement financial management effectively should be developed.

This study investigates twenty four Korean females' production of English front vowels focusing on the distinction in /i/ vs /ɪ/ and /ɛ/ vs /${\ae}$/ and formant values of stressed and unstressed vowels compared with those of native English speakers. The Korean learners were asked to read a textbook passage which includes ten sentences including target vowels. The major results indicate that: (1) Korean learners have trouble producing a distinct version (tense and lax) of front vowels in the paragraph reading; (2) The vowel space of the stressed vowels in a paragraph is smaller than that of embedded sentences; and (3) The vowel quality of the unstressed vowels produced by the Korean learners is similar to that of the native English speakers. The findings from this study can be applied to the pronunciation teaching for the Korean learners of English vowels and realization of English stress.

This study aimed to analyze the effects of handbills from the food-service industry on the marketing performance. In this study, an independent variable was one of the evaluation factors of handbills while performance variables were general satisfaction of handbills and repurchase intention. For the analysis methods, frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed with SPSS 12.0. As a result of analyses, it was revealed that general satisfaction of handbills by advertisement evaluation factors was partly significant. Second, it was found that a product purchase intention by advertisement evaluation factors was not mostly influential. Even though the findings of this study, it is expected that this study, which attempted an exploratory study on handbills of the food-service industry, will be used for future advertisement analyses of the food-service industry and as basic information on the advertisement effect.

Many IS researchers had the greatest interesting in publication in leading IS journals. Studies of measuring research performance of Information Systems (IS) are the most important research areas. Today, many IS researchers considered Management Information Systems Quarterly (MISQ), Information Systems Research (ISR), and Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS) as the leading IS journals. In this study, we analyzed the published papers of Korean and overseas Koreans related IS researchers in ISR, MISQ, and JMIS from 2001 to 2010. The results of this study appeared the trend of increasing frequency of publication of IS research in south Korea in the leading IS journals such as ISR, MISQ, JMIS. The findings of this research showed the excellent performance of IS researchers and provided valuable information regarding publications performance of IS researchers in leading IS Journals.

This study is an effort to bring our attention to social dependence on alcohol, focusing on previous studies of drinking behaviors. Although drinking behavior and problems must be understood in a biopsychosocial framework, a certain aspect is often ignored in alcohol research. A few attention has been paid to social aspect of alcohol abuse or dependence. Social processes of drinking behavior deserve to have same attention as other aspects, psychological and physical aspects of the behavior. Literature show that the interdependence among group members exists to regulate individual's drinking behavior. Such social interactions tend to control drinking level for individual in terms of amounts, frequency, and preference. The drinking level tends to be dependent on desires for heavy drinkers, ignoring variabilities of individual's sensitivity to alcohol. However, such a heavy-oriented tendency in drinking behavior may have different patterns which are function of normative orientation of alcohol. negotiation among group members, and ethnoreligious characteristics. Perspectives from conflict tradition and symbolic interactionism are welcomed to illuminate multi-dimentional aspects of social dependence. Policy implication were discussed from public health perspective.

This study examined the relationships among resources demands financial management behavior and financial satisfaction of housewives based on the systems approach. The data were collected from 212 housewives living in Pusan and Kyungnam region by the self-administered questionnaire. The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) the communication frequency of husbands and wives was an important factor affecting financial satisfaction; (2) the perceived financial status such as comparison to reference groups and aspiration for financial status in the future had an influence on financial satisfaction as well as the objective variables such as monthly living costs and monthly savings; and (3)financial satisfaction was also affected by financial management behavior. These findings imply that the financial management program focusing on the ways to increase communication among family members and to implement financial behavior effectively should be developed.

This paper presents an overview analysis on the observed wind shear at Pohang Steel Works, focusing on diurnal patterns and the frequency of high nighttime shear at the site in case of land breeze. In addition, this paper discusses the importance of accurate shear estimates for reliable evaluation of wind energy density. In order for a long-term correlation of the site, three Measure-Correlate-Predict methods were tested with Pohang wind data and it was shown that the linear MCP gives poor estimation due to the geographic characteristics of complex terrain where the severe transformation of wind direction was accompanied.

The shock performance of hard disk drives has been a serious issue for portable computers and AV application HDD. Focusing on the motion of an actuator, we investigated non-operational shock mechanism and studied several parameters that affect the shock performance by experimental analysis. It was found that there are two important factors fort the actuator to endure high shock revel. One is a shock transmissibility and the other is a beating between the arm blade and the suspension. To generalize the shock transmissibility, the concept of shock response spectrum was introduced. The shock response spectrum of the actuator system was obtained experimentally and compared with that of an analytical single degree of freedom model. It was found that there was a good agreement. The first bending natural frequency of the arm blade was found to be the most important factor for the low shock transmissibility. By applying the shock response spectrum and avoiding the beating, we could design an actuator of high shock performance.

In the wavenumber domain, each point on a radiation sphere indicates a plane wave of the frequency corresponding to radius of the sphere and the position on the sphere shows propagating direction of the plane wave. This concept is extended from the research by Choi[1] where he focus acoustic potential energy at a point on a radiation sphere. Here we propose the method to focus the energy at a point on the radiation sphere, as a result, we can easily generate a plane wave which propagates to any direction that we want.
