  • The present study considers multi-level approach for the analysis of parametric roll phenomena. Three kinds of computation method, GM variation, impulse response function (IRF), and Rankine panel method, are applied for the multi-level approach. IRF and Rankine panel method are based on the weakly nonlinear formulation which includes nonlinear Froude-Krylov and restoring forces. In the computation result of parametric roll occurrence test in regular waves, IRF and Rankine panel method show similar tendency. Although the GM variation approach predicts the occurrence of parametric roll at twice roll natural frequency, its frequency criteria shows a little difference. Nonlinear roll motion in bichromatic wave is also considered in this study. To prove the unstable roll motion in bichromatic waves, theoretical and numerical approaches are applied. The occurrence of parametric roll is theoretically examined by introducing the quasi-periodic Mathieu equation. Instability criteria are well predicted from stability analysis in theoretical approach. From the Fourier analysis, it has been verified that difference-frequency effects create the unstable roll motion. The occurrence of unstable roll motion in bichromatic wave is also observed in the experiment.

  • In this paper, an effective numerical analysis method is proposed for calculating dosimetry of the wireless power transfer system operating low-frequency ranges. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is widely used to analyze bio-electromagnetic field problems, which require high resolution, such as a heterogeneous whole-body voxel human model. However, applying the standard method in the low-frequency band incurs an inordinate number of time steps. We overcome this problem by proposing a modified finite-difference time-domain method which utilizes a quasi-static approximation with the surface equivalence theorem. The analysis results of the simple model by using proposed method are in good agreement with those from a commercial electromagnetic simulator. A simulation of the induced electric fields in a human head voxel model exposed to a wireless power transmission system provides a realistic example of an application of the proposed method. The simulation results of the realistic human model with the proposed method are verified by comparing it with the conventional FDTD method.

  • For Sound source direction and separation method, Frequency Domain Binaural Model(FDBM) shows low computational cost and high performance for sound source separation. This method performs sound source orientation and separation by obtaining the Interaural Phase Difference(IPD) and Interaural Level Difference(ILD) in frequency domain. But the problem of reflection occurs in practical environment. To reduce this reflection, a method to simulate the sound localization of a direct sound, to detect the initial arriving sound, to check the direction of the sound, and to separate the sound is presented. Simulation results show that the direction is estimated to lie close within 10% from the sound source and, in the presence of the reflection, the level of the separation of the sound source is improved by higher Coherence and PESQ(Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality) and by lower directional damping than those of the existing FDBM. In case of no reflection, the degree of separation was low.

  • In this paper, the higher order FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method is used to obtain the frequency response characteristics of the cylindrical metamaterial slab. FDTD method is one of strongest electromagnetic numerical method which is widely used to analyze the metamaterial structure because of its simplicity and the dispersive FDTD equation which has the dispersive effective dielectric constant and permeability are derived to analyze the metamaterials. This derived dispersive FDTD equation has no errors in analyzing the dielectric materials but there are some time and frequency errors in case of analyzing the metamaterials. We used the higher order FDTD method to obtain the accurate frequency response of the metamaterials. Comparisons between the dispersive FDTD method and the higher order FDTD method are performed in this paper also. From the results, we concluded that more accurate frequency response for various metamaterials applications can be obtained using the proposed method in this paper.

  • In this paper, a new method to reduce the size of ROM in the direct digital frequency synthesizer (DDFS) is proposed. This method use the sine-linear phase difference method and differential PCM. The new ROM compression method can reduce the ROM size by using the two ROM. The quantized value of sine-linear phase difference is saved by the ROM1 of the $2^N$ sample period. The ROM2 save the difference between the original sine-linear phase difference value and the saved sample value of the ROM1. The ROM compression ratio of 37% is achieved by this method. Also, the power consumption is decreased according to the ROM size reduction.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method to extract the line spectrum pair (LSP) frequencies. When speech signal is analyzed by the autocorrelation method, the spectral difference in the logarithmic spectra of the model at steps p and p-1 oscillates. There are p-1 frequency points where the values of the spectral dfference take on either maximum or minimum between 0 and half sampling frequency. We show that these frequencies are excatly the LSP frequencies of order p-1, which can be found by searching the frequencies where the spectral difference reaches either maxima or minima. also, the LSP frequencies of order p can be obtained from this spectral difference. In this case, we derive the expression governing the pth order LSP frequencies. The efficient search for finding the LSP frequencies of order p can be done by proving the property that the LSP frequencies of order p and p-1 are interlaced with each other.

  • Antarctic krill Euphausia superba are important components of the Antarctic marine ecosystem both economically and ecologically; to manage this species effectively, their distribution and abundance must be understood. Using the Kwang Ja-Ho (3,012 tonnage), a commercial fishing vessel, we conducted acoustic surveys during April 13-24, 2016, to estimate the distribution and population size of krill around the South Shetland Islands of the Antarctic Continent, We used acoustic techniques based on the dB-difference, a method used mainly to classify of marine species. We found that Antarctic krill were present in numbers over 99% at six survey stations, with the exception of Station 3, where we only found Electrona carlsbergi. There was no difference in cell size due to frequency differences, but echo signals differed between species: 4.7-12.0 dB for Antarctic krill, and -4.1~0 dB for Electrona carlsbergi.

  • This study was carried out to investigate euphausiid abundance in an acoustic survey from March 2010 to July 2010 to suggest reasonable usage and management of the euphausiid Euphausia pacifica in the coastal area of Guryongpo Pohang. The acoustic data were analyzed by the 2-frequency difference method and the distorted wave born approximation acoustical theoretical model, which is used for organisms of weak target strength with small scatter, such as euphausiid scatter, among other marine organisms. The distribution and monthly density of euphausiids were estimated in the survey area. The results show that the volume back scattering strength frequency difference for euphausiid was 13.91-7.6 dB, and their monthly averag density was $28.2g/m^2$.
