  • To control the position, velocity and torque of the ultrasonic motor, a great variety of method are proposed such as the amplitude, phase difference, frequency and so on. In the case of phase difference method, it has some advantages: it can control the direction and velocity of rotation only adjusting the phase difference and it has wide control-band. During the USM driving on adjusting phase difference, its characteristic was transformed by the change of resonance-frequency of stator, which means that the resonance frequency is different according to the phase difference. Consequently, we need to set up the most suitable driving frequency according to each phase difference.

Estimating the Abundance of Antarctic Krill Euphausia superba Using a Commercial Trawl Vessel (상업어선의 어군탐지기를 이용한 남극크릴(Euphausia superba) 자원량 추정)

  • The Antarctic krill Euphausia superba is important commercially and ecologically as a basic component of the Antarctic Ocean ecosystem. To manage this resource, it is important to determine the distribution and standing of krill in the water layer. Acoustic methods can capture information about the entire water layer quickly. Acoustic surveys were conducted from March 3 to March 14, 2017, using the commercial fishing boat Sejong (7,765 tons). Acoustic systems with a frequency of 38 kHz and a 200 kHz commercial echo sounder (ES70, Simrad, Norway) were used and the acquired data were processed using post processing software. The density and standing of Antarctic krill were determined using the two-frequency difference method, using the characteristics of two frequencies. To compare the frequency difference of krill, the method using the frequency difference according to the krill length, recommended by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) and the values extracted according to the krill length at survey stations where only krill were collected during the study period, were compared. The frequency difference ranges were 3.96-5.91 dB and -3.0~13.8 dB, respectively.

An Adaptive Watermarking Method for Copy Protectionof Digital Images (디지츨 영상의 복사 방지를 위한 적응 워터마킹 방법)

  • In this paper, a new watermarking method for a copy protectionof images is proposed. The proposed method adaptively embeds a watermark in the frequency domain of images using human visual system model. For this purpose, the Just Noticeable Differences(JNDs) of each frequency coeffeicient value of a luminance plane is first found using Watson and Solomon's visual system model. An invisible maximum watermark value with is different in every position according to the characteristics of images is determined usig JND and Minkowski metric. A low frequency domain is divided into two sets based on a PN-sequence to protect thewatermark from the attack. The watermarks are added to one set of coefficients and detecting a watermark, the difference between the mean values of absolute coefficient values of both sets is calculated. The embedded watermark is tested using statistical hypothesis based on test static dertermined by the ean difference. To demonstrate the perfromance of the proposed method, the new watermarking method is applied to a high frequency image and low frequency images. Experimenatal results show the watermark is invisible and robust to JPEGlossy compression and noise.

  • The clock frequency difference of sensor nodes is one of main parameters in TOF estimation and affect to degrade ranging algorithms to estimate positions of mobile nodes in wireless sensor networks. The specification of IEEE802.15.4a describes asynchronous TWR and SDS-TWR insensitive to frequency difference without any additional network synchronization. But the TWR and SDS-TWR can not eliminate sufficiently the effect of frequency difference of node pair, packet processing delay and its difference. Especially use of low cost oscillator with wide range offset, sensor node with different hardware and software can make the positioning errors worse. We propose an estimation method of frequency differences, and apply the measured frequency differences to TWR and SDS-TWR. We evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm with simulation, and make certain that the proposed method enhances the performance of existing algorithms with positioning errors less than 25 cm.

A pilot study on estimating the biomass of chub mackerel and jack mackerel in the northwestern sea of Jeju Island using trawl survey and frequency characteristics (트롤 조사와 주파수특성을 이용한 제주도 서북 해역의 고등어와 전갱이 생물량 추정에 관한 예비 연구)

  • In September and October 2020, combined acoustic and trawl surveys were conducted in the northwestern sea of Jeju Island. In the survey area, a region, so called Jeju region, was designated to esimate the biomass of chub mackerel and jack mackerel using a trawl survey method and frequency difference method. In the September survey, the weight ratios of jack mackerel and chub mackerel to the total catch were 24.6% and 2.8%, respectively, and in the October survey, those ratios were 24.9% and 20.7%, which were used to calculate their biomass (trawl survey). Using the frequency difference range (-8 to -3dB) corresponding to two species in 120 and 200 kHz, their biomass was estimated (frequency difference method). As a result, the biomass of two species from the trawl method was 3252.3 tons in September and 5777.0 tons in October. The estimated biomass by the frequency difference method was 4926.6 tons in September and 7521.5 tons in October. It was the first trial to estimate the biomass of two species using the trawl and frequency differencing methods in South Korea although there were some differences between two methods. In addition, horizontal distributions of acoustic backscattering strength over the entire survey area were mapped.

Direction finding based on Radon transform in frequency-wavenumber domain with a sparse array (주파수-파수 스펙트럼과 라돈변환을 이용한 희소 배열 기반 방위추정 기법 연구)

  • When an array receives a signal with a frequency higher than the design frequency, there is an ambiguity in beamforming due to spatial aliasing. In order to overcome this problem, Abadi proposed frequency-difference beamforming. However, there is a constraint that the minimum frequency bandwidth is required according to the value of the difference frequency. In this paper, we propose a method to find the direction of the target signal with spatial aliasing based on the frequency-wavenumber spectrum combined with Radon transform. The proposed method can estimate the direction of the target without ambiguities when the signal has nonnegligible bandwidth. We tested the algorithm by simulating a broadband signal and verified the results with the frequency-difference beamforming method using SAVEX15 (Shallow Water Acoustic Variability EXperiment 2015)'s shrimp noise data.

Detection of LSB Matching Revisited Using Pixel Difference Feature

  • This paper presents a detection method for least significant bit matching revisited (LSBMR) steganography. Previous research shows that the adjacent pixels of natural images are highly correlated and the value 0 appears most frequently in pixel difference. Considering that the message embedding process of LSBMR steganography has a weighted-smoothing effect on the distribution of pixel difference, the frequency of the occurrence of value 0 in pixel difference changes most significantly whereas other values approximately remain unchanged during message embedding. By analyzing the effect of LSBMR steganography on pixel difference distribution, an equation is deduced to estimate the frequency of difference value 0 using the frequencies of difference values 1 and 2. The sum of the ratio of the estimated value to the actual value as well as the ratio of the frequency of difference value 1 to difference value 0 is used as the steganalytic detector. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively detect LSBMR steganography and can outperform previous proposed methods.

A Nonlinear Response Analysis of Tension Leg Platforms in Irregular Waves (불규칙파중의 인장계류식 해양구조물의 비선형 응답 해석)

  • In the presence of incident waves with different frequencies, the second order sum and difference frequency waves due to the nonlinearity of the incident waves come into existence. Although the magnitudes of the forces produced on a Tension Leg Platform(TLP) by these nonlinear waves are small, they act on the TLP at sum and difference frequencies away from those of the incident waves. So, the second order sum and difference frequency wave loads produced close to the natural frequencies of TLPs often give greater contributions to high and low frequency resonant responses. The second order wave exciting forces and moments have been obtained by the method based on direct integration of pressure acting on the submerged surface of a TLP. The components of the second order forces which depend on first order quantities have been evaluated using the three dimensional source distribution method. The numerical results of time domain analysis for the nonlinear wave exciting forces in regular waves are compared with the numerical ones of frequency domain analysis. The results of comparison confirmed the validity of the proposed approach.

  • When measuring the radiating noise of an underwater moving source, the range information between the acoustic source and the receiver is an important evaluation factor, and the measurement standards such as a receiver position, a moving source depth and a speed are set. Although there is a method of using the cross correlation as a method of finding the range of the underwater moving source, this method requires a time synchronization process. In this paper, we proposed the method to estimate the range by comparing the Doppler frequency difference of the theoretically calculated multipath signal with the Doppler frequency difference of the multipath signal estimated from the received signal. The proposed method does not require a separate time synchronization process. Simulations were performed to verify the performance, and the ranging error of the proposed method reduced by about 95 % than that of the conventional method.

Demosaicking Method Using Color Difference in Wavelet Domain (웨이블릿 영역에서 색차를 이용한 디모자이킹 방법)

  • In this paper, we present an efficient demosaicking method using the difference between color channels in the wavelet domain. In our method, the low frequency wavelet coefficients are obtained by an edge-directive interpolation using the observed high frequency coefficients. The missing high frequency coefficients are obtained by the estimated low frequency coefficients. In order to reduce artifacts in high frequency domain and to improve visual quality, we update the high frequency coefficient using the color difference rule in the wavelet domain. We simulate our demosaicking method in the wavelet domain and compare our algorithm to the existing demosaicking schemes. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed method can generate enhanced demosaicking results.
