  • The styling of automobile wheels and their effect on vehicle appearance has increased in importance in recent years. The wheel designer has been given the task of insuring that a wheel design meets its engineering objectives without affecting the styling theme. The wheel and tire system is considered as a vehicle component whose dynamic modal information of the tire/wheel system are employed in the modal synthesis model of the vehicle. The vibration characteristics of a automobile wheel play an important role to judge a ride comfort and quality for a automobile. In this paper, the vibration characteristics of a Al-alloy and steel wheel for automobile are studied. Natural frequency, damping and mode shape are determined experimentally by frequency response function method. Results show that wheel material property, size and design are parameter for shift of natural frequency and damping.

  • This paper reports a series of component tests on a lightweight floor system and a method to predict the natural frequency of the floor using a frame analysis program. Full-scale floor tests are also briefly described. DuraGal steel Rectangular Hollow Sections (in-line galvanised RHS) are used as joists, bearers and piers in DuraGal lightweight floor systems. A structural grade particleboard is used as decking. Connection stiffness between different components (bearer, joist, pier and floor decking) was determined. A 40% composite action was achieved between the RHS joist and the particleboard. Both 2D and 3D models were developed to study the effect of connection stiffness on predicting the natural frequency of DuraGal lightweight floor systems. It has been found that the degree of shear connection between the bearer and the joist has a significant influence on the floor natural frequency. The predicted natural frequencies are compared with measured values from full scale floor testing.

  • This paper introduces a variable step-size adaptive algorithm for blind source separation. From the frequency characteristics of mixed input signals, we need to adjust the convergence speed regularly in each frequency bin. This algorithm varies a step-size according to the magnitude of input at each frequency bin. This guarantee of the regular convergence in each frequency bin would become more efficient in separation performances than conventional fixed step-size FDICA. Computer simulation results show the improvement of about 5 dB in signal to interference ratio (SIR) and the better separation quality.

  • The analysis of heart sounds is a noninvasive diagnostic method useful to diagnose heart valve function. In this paper we compared the ability of spectral analysis method for prosthetic heart valve sounds. Phonocardiograms of prosthetic heart valve were analyzed in order to derive frequency domain feature suitable for the classification of the valve state. The FFT-based methods did not provide sufficient frequency resolution to completely characterize the spectrum of prosthetic heart valve sounds. A high resolution parametric methods were shown to give superior frequency resolution. In parametric methods, all methods provide a 1st & 2nd & 3rd frequency component. But Shank method provided a most dominant frequency peak.

  • The analytical solutions of the Fraunhofer Diffraction(FD) theory and the principle for measurement of the dispersion relation of plasma wave is presented. Especially, the method for measurement of low-frequency wave is discussed. The wavenumbers of the density fluctuations are obtained from the curve fitting between the expremental FD profile and theoretical one for each frequency component. In measurement of the wavenumber of the low -frequency region, the information of the wavenumber is easily obtained from the ratio of the intensity at = 0 to the intensity at =0.5. The millimeter wave FD apparatus was designed to measure low-frequency density fluctuations. The determined wavenumbers are in the range of =0.1~ 1.0cm. Thus, the millimeter wave FD method was shown to be useful for the measurement of low-frequency density fluctuations, which are impossible to be measured by using a convention. Thomson scattering. The obtained dispersion relations will be useful information for plasma waves.

  • Most bearing casings are designed to focus on strength and weight of themselves because rotor speed passes through the critical speed when operation begins in large plants such as power plants. And It is treated importantly the relation between rotating frequency of the rotor and the natural frequency of casings to prevent resonance. But there is some cases that it is overlooked for harmonic components above rotating frequency. So we present experimentally a case that harmonic forces may make a resonance on casing fixing probes to measure vibration in a turbine-generator system and the vibration is generated when one component of harmonic forces excites the mode that the natural frequency of a certain bearing casing is close to one of harmonics of basic rotating frequency (1x).

  • It has been reviewed whether it would be suitable that the application of the time-frequency signal analysis techniques to estimate the location of the impact source in plate structure. The STFT(Short Time Fourier Transform), WVD(Wigner-Ville distribution) and CWT(Continuous Wavelet Transform) methods are introduced and the advantages and disadvantages of those methods are described by using a simulated signal component. The essential of the above proposed techniques is to separate the traveling waves in both time and frequency domains using the dispersion characteristics of the structural waves. These time-frequency methods are expected to be more useful than the conventional time domain analyses fer the impact localization problem on a plate type structure. Also it has been concluded that the smoothed WVD can give more reliable means than the other methodologies for the location estimation in a noisy environment.

  • This paper presents vibration control of an engine mount for a passenger vehicle utilizing ER fluid and piezoelectric actuator. The proposed engine mount can be isolated the vibration of wide frequency range with many types of amplitude. The main function of ER fluid is to attenuate vibration for low frequency with large amplitude, while the piezoelectric actuator is activated in hish frequency range with small amplitude. A mathematical model of the engine mount is derived using Hydraulic model and mechanical model. After formulating the governing equation of motion, then field-dependent dynamic stiffness of the engine mount is evaluated for various engine speed and excitation amplitude conditions. Then robust controller is designed to attenuate vibration of wide range frequency component. Computer simulation is undertaken in order to evaluate the vibration control performance such as transmissibility magnitude in frequency domains.

  • High-frequency data are now prevalent in financial time series. As a functional data arising from high-frequency financial time series, we are concerned with the intraday volatility to which functional principal component analysis (FPCA) is applied in order to achieve a dimension reduction. A review on FPCA and R function is made and high-frequency KOSPI volatility is analysed as an application.
