Identification of the whipping response out of the combined wave-vibration response of a flexible sea going vessel is one of the most interesting research topic from ship designer's point of view. In order to achieve this goal, a novel methodology based on the wavelet cross-correlation technique was proposed in this paper. The cross-correlation of the wavelet power spectrum averaged across the frequency axis was introduced to check the similarity between the combined wave-vibration response and impulse response. The calculated cross-correlation of the wavelet power spectrum was normalized by the auto-correlation of the each spectrum with zero time lag, eventually providing the cross-correlation coefficient that stays between 0 and 1, precisely indicating the existence of the impulse response buried in the combined wave-vibration response. Additionally, the weight function was introduced while calculating the cross-correlation of the two spectrums in order to filter out the signal of lower frequency so that the accuracy of the similarity check becomes as high as possible. The validity of the proposed methodology was checked through the application to the artificially generated ideal combined wave-vibration signal, together with the more realistic signal obtained by running 3D hydroelasticity program WISH-Flex. The correspondence of the identified whipping instances between the results, one from the proposed method and the other from the calculated slamming modal force, was excellent.
This paper describes a simple method for evaluating the design wind loads for the structural frames of circular flat roofs with long spans. The dynamic response of several roof models were numerically analyzed in the time domain as well as in the frequency domain by using wind pressure data obtained from a wind tunnel experiment. The instantaneous displacement and bending moment of the roof were computed, and the maximum load effects were evaluated. The results indicate that the wind-induced oscillation of the roof is generally dominated by the first mode and the gust effect factor approach can be applied to the evaluation of the maximum load effects. That is, the design wind load can be represented by the time-averaged wind pressure multiplied by the gust effect factor for the first mode. Based on the experimental results for the first modal force, an empirical formula for the gust effect factor is provided as a function of the geometric and structural parameters of the roof and the turbulence intensity of the approach flow. The equivalent design pressure coefficients, which reproduce the maximum load effects, are also discussed. A simplified model of the pressure coefficient distribution is presented.

In order to study the effect of the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) on the simulation results, the external characteristics and internal flow features of a diffuser pump were analyzed with a two-way flow solid coupling method. And the static and dynamic structure analysis of the blade was also caculated with the FEA method. The steady flow field is based on Reynolds Averaged N-S equations with standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model, the unsteady flow field is based on the large eddy simulation, and the structure response is based on elastic transient structural dynamic equation. The results showed that the effect of FSI on the head prediction based on CFD really exists. At the same radius, the van mises stress on the nodes closed shroud and hub was larger than other nodes. A large deformation region existed near inlet side at the middle of blades. The strength of impeller satisfied the strength requirement with static stress analysis based on the fourth strength theory. The dynamic stress varied periodically with the impeller rotating. It was also found that the fundamental frequency of the dynamic stress is the rotating frequency and its harmonic frequency. The frequency of maximum stress amplitude at node 1626 was 7 times of the rotating frequency. The frequency of maximum stress amplitude at node 2328 was 14 times of the rotating frequency. No matter strength failure or fatigue failure, the root of blades near shroud is the key region to analyse.
should be in This paper presents review on human comfort criteria in major codes and standards for tall buildings. In general, human comfort criteria of tall buildings have been used by magnitude of wind-induced acceleration response. Two different indexes in determination of the magnitude have been used: the peak value which occurs during a period of time and the rms value averaged over this same period. These distinctive acceleration indexes are discussed in detail and each criterium was reviewed and compared. The distinctions arisen because of the different wave forms, or acceleration signatures were addressed. It is described that which index of acceleration should be adopted in establishment of Korean human comfort criteria. In addition, some arguments from a technical standpoint that favor the use of each index are presented.
The purpose of this study was to develop a theoretical model to analyze the vibration of finite railways forced by distributed moving loads. The vibration characteristics of compliantly supported beam utilizing compressional damping model were investigated through the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The distributed moving load was analyzed as the cross correlation function on railways. This allowed the use of statistical characteristics for simulation of the moving train wheels on the rail. The results showed there is a critical velocity inducing resonant vibration of the rail. The mass spring resonance from the rail fastening systems exhibited significant influence on the resulting vibration response. In particular, the effect of the viscoelastic core damping was investigated as an efficient method for minimizing rail vibration. The decrease of the averaged vibration and rolling noise generation by the damping core was maximized at the mass-stiffness-mass resonance frequency.
This article describes the design and performance characteristics of a broadband ultrasonic mosaic transducer. We focus on the improved bandwidth in the high frequency band of a previously designed broadband ultrasonic transducer (Lee et al., 2014). The improvement in the pulse-echo bandwidth was achieved by employing twelve $2{\times}2$ element subarrays, operating at different resonance frequencies, and utilizing the mosaic array concept. We found that the -6 dB and -12 dB bandwidths of the newly developed broadband ultrasonic mosaic transducer, were up to 155% and 170% of the previously designed model, with a quality factor of 1.71 and 1.25, respectively. The averaged TVR (transmitting voltage response), SRT (receiving sensitivity), and FOM (figure of merit) values in a nearly flat transmitting response band, from 45 to 105 kHz providing a -12 dB bandwith of 60 kHz, were 163.3 dB (re $1{\mu}Pa/V$ at 1 m), -192.8 dB (re $1V/{\mu}Pa$), and -30.9 dB, respectively.
The paper investigates three types of transfer function methods for detecting displacements of winding in a model transformer. To acquire these transfer functions, the measuring method of input voltage, current and its response is used in impulse method. The applied impulse voltages had three rising times, which were short rising time (less than 0.6 ${\mu}s$), medium rising time (about 0.8 ${\mu}s$) and long rising time (about 1 ${\mu}s$) in front waves. Every 10 measurements of voltage and current waves were averaged from 50 measurements of voltage and current waves. These transfer functions were tested in normal, 24mm elevated and 48mm elevated windings conditions and were analyzed with correlation coefficients and spectrum deviations. In the analysis, the results depend on the types of transfer functions and the rising times of input voltages.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the vibro-acoustic characteristics of a stiffened rectangular plate at high frequencies. The stiffeners attached along the plate surface were assumed to have rotational and translational stiffness and inertia. The harmonic response of the stiffened plate were predicted and compared using the Rayleigh-Ritz method with two different trial functions - polynomial and beam functions. The variation of the spatially averaged mean square velocity and the modal characteristics with the number of stiffeners were obtained. The use of the beam function ensured fast convergence which was essential for analyzing the high frequency vibration responses. Using the calculated modal characteristics and the Rayleigh-integral, the radiated sound power was predicted, and the effects of stiffeners were investigated. The proposed model can be applied to study optimal layout of stiffeners for minimal noise generation of the stiffened structures.
A time-domain combined field integral equation (CFIE) is presented to obtain the transient scattering response from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional conducting bodies. This formulation is based on a linear combination of the time-domain electric field integral equation (EFIE) with the magnetic field integral equation (MFIE). The time derivative of the magnetic vector potential in EFIE is approximated using a central finite difference approximation and the scalar potential is averaged over time. The time-domain CFIE approach produces results that are accurate and stable when solving for transient scattering responses from conducting objects. The incident spectrum of the field may contain frequency components, which correspond to the internal resonance of the structure. For the numerical solution, we consider both the explicit and implicit scheme and use two different kinds of Gaussian pulses, which may contain frequencies corresponding to the internal resonance. Numerical results for the EFIE, MFIE, and CFIE are presented and compared with those obtained from the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the frequency-domain CFIE solution.
