  • A filtration-taping method was demonstrated to fabricate carbon nanotube (CNT) emitters. This method shows many good features, including high mechanical adhesion, good electrical contact, low temperature, organic-free, low cost, large size, and suitability for various CNT materials and substrates. These good features promise an advanced field emission performance with a turn-on field of $0.88V/{\mu}m$ at a current density of $0.1{\mu}A/cm^2$, a threshold field of $1.98V/{\mu}m$ at a current density of $1mA/cm^2$, and a good stability of over 20 h. The filtration-taping technique is an effective way to realize low-cost, large-size, and high-performance CNT emitters.

  • A fluidized bed reactor made of quartz with 0.055 m I.D. and 1.0 m in height was employed for the thermocatalytic decomposition of methane to produce $CO_2$ - free hydrogen . The fluidized bed was proposed for the continuous withdraw of product carbons from the reactor. The methane decomposition rate with the carbon black N330 catalyst was quickly reached a quasi-steady state rate and remained for several hour. The methane and propane mixture decomposition reaction was carried out at the temperature range of 850 - 900 $^{\circ}C$, methane and propane mixture gas velocity of 1.0 $U_{mf}$ ${\sim}$ 3.0 $U_{mf}$ and the operating pressure of 1.0 atm. Effect of operating parameters such as reaction temperature, gas velocity on the reaction rates was investigated. The produced carbon by the methane decomposition was deposited on the surfaces of carbon catalysts and the morphology was observed by TEM image.

  • Green tea was extracted with different solvents such as hot water, varying concentrations of ethanol and carbon dioxide fluid. The carbon dioxide fluid extraction of green tea was a very effective extraction method in terms of antioxidant yield and stability. At pressure of 125kgf, antioxidant extract of green tea produced a yield 1.87 and 2.8 times higher than hot water and $95\%$ ethanol extract, respectively. Antioxidant extract of carbon dioxide fluid was also very stable during 7-day storage at 35?.

  • This paper presents an investigation on the free vibration characteristics of functionally graded nanocomposite double-beams reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The double-beams coupled by an interlayer spring, resting on the elastic foundation with a linear layer and shear layer, and is simply supported in thermal environments. The SWCNTs gradient distributed in the thickness direction of the beam forms different reinforcement patterns. The materials properties of the functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composites (FG-CNTRC) are estimated by rule of mixture. The first order shear deformation theory and Euler-Lagrange variational principle are employed to derive the motion equations incorporating the thermal effects. The vibration characteristics under several patterns of reinforcement are presented and discussed. We conducted a series of studies aimed at revealing the effects of the spring stiffness, environment temperature, thickness ratios and carbon nanotube volume fraction on the nature frequency.

  • This paper deals with the free vibration behavior of rotating composite beams reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) under uniform thermal loads. The temperature-dependent beam material is assumed to be a mixture of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in an isotropic matrix and five different functionally graded (FG) distributions of CNTs are considered according to the variation along the thickness, namely the UD-uniform, FG-O, FG-V, FG-Λ and FG-X distributions where FG-V and FG-Λ are unsymmetrical patterns. Considering the Timoshenko beam theory (TBT), a new finite element formulation of functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FGCNTRC) beam is created for the first time. And the effects of several essential parameters including rotational speed, hub radius, effective material properties, slenderness ratio, boundary conditions, thermal force and moments due to temperature variation are considered in the formulation. By implementing different boundary conditions, some new results of both symmetric and non-symmetrical distribution patterns are presented in tables and figures to be used as benchmark for further validation. In addition, as an alternative advanced composite application for rotating systems exposed to thermal load, the positive effects of CNT addition in improving the dynamic performance of the system have been observed and the results are presented in several tables and figures.

  • Since carbon-fluorine (C-F) bonds play a key role to improve bioavailability and lipophilicity, they have found commonly in pharmaceuticals, radiopharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and material science. Advances on the efficient method to introduce fluorine to complex organic molecules are mainly results of development of fluorination reagents and transition metal catalysts. In this mini-review, we want to emphasize two representative nucleophilic fluorinating reagents regarding carbon-fluorine bond formation, which were developed in the mid-2000s.

  • In this study, chromate and cetylperidinium chloride (CPC) removal from artificial wastewater was monitored by using micellar enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) and activated carbon fibre (ACF) adsorption hybrid processes. For the efficient chromate removal, molar concentration of the CPC should be five times that of chromate and it should be at least one critical micelle concentration (CMC). The MEUF was found to be effective in the chromate removal while ACF in the CPC adsorption to produce chromate and CPC free effluents. The chromate and CPC removal was 99.8% from MEUF-ACF process. Effluent chromate concentration was exponentially correlated with molar ratio of CPC to chromate and pH.

  • A study on the dynamic mechanical properties of the high strength carbon fiber epoxy composite beam was carried out. The macromechanical model was used for the theoretical analysis of the symmetric laminated composite beam. The anisotropic plate theory and Bernoulli-Euler beam theory were used to predict the effective flexural elastic modulus and the specific damping capacity of laminated composite beam. The free flexural vibration and torsional vibration tests were carried out to determine the specific damping capacities of the unidirectional laminated composite beam. The vibration tests were performed in a vacuum chamber with laser vibrometer system and electromagnetic hammer to obtain accurate experimental data. From the computational and experimental results, it was found that the theoretical values with the macromechanical analysis and the experimental data of symmetric laminated composite beam were in good agreement.

  • From recent research, it has revealed that Electroacitve polymer(EAP) has a physical limitation. Carbon nanotube(CNT) is known as the promising material which has excellent electro-mechanical characteristics and is mostly defect-free. It is expected that a successful synthesis of CNT and Nafion known as a primary material for IPMC would make a great improvement on its electro-mechanic feature. In this paper, we suggest the method of synthesis of CNT with Nafion which improves electro-mechanical characteristic. Using mechanical dispersion with Nafion and Isopropyl Alcohol(IPA), we disperse Single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNT). For a uniformly layer of CNT, we used a spray gun on a hot plate by a simplified method. In the result, we fabricated a disperse SWCNT/Nafion composite uniformly.

  • Effects of the annealing parameters on the formation of ferrites transformed at low temperatures were studied in cold-rolled ultra low carbon steels with niobium and/or chromium. Niobium and chromium were found to be effective in the formation of the low temperature transformation ferrites. The low temperature transformation ferrites more easily formed when both higher annealing temperature and longer annealing time, allowing substitutional alloying elements to distribute between phases, are in combination with faster cooling rate. It was found from EBSD study that the additions of niobium or chromium resulted in the increase in the numbers of high angle grain boundaries and the decrease in those of the low angle grain boundaries in the microstructures. Both granular bainitic ferrite and bainitic ferrite were characterized by the not clearly etched grain boundaries in light microscopy because of the low angle grain boundaries.
