  • In this paper, we investigate the performance of ARQ-aided downlink Time Switched Transmit Diversity (TSTD) in the WCDMA LCR-TDD system. Proposed TSTD system applies the ARQ scheme in which the receiver sends the response signal (ACK or NACK signal) to the transmitter and predicts the channel condition based on response signal after receiver checks the error, then it re-sends data. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed TSTD scheme yields about 5.5dB performance gain, compared with the conventional TSTD in term of the frame error rate(FER) for a mobile speed of 3km/h and an FER value of 1%. In addition, 7% of throughput gain is shown when Eb/N0=7dB.

  • We propose a novel algorithm for fractal video sequence coding, based on the circular prediction mapping (CPM), in which each range block is approximated by a domain block in the circularly previous frame. In our approach, the size of the domain block is set to be same as that of the range block for exploiting the high temporal correlation between the adjacent frames, while most other fractal coders use the domain block larger than the range block. Therefore the domain-range mapping in the CPM is similar to the block matching algorithm in the motion compensation techniques, and the advantages of this similarity are discussed. Also we show that the CPM can be combined with non-contractive inter-frame mapping (NCIM), improving the performance of the fractal sequence coder further. The computer simulation results on real image sequences demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides very promising performance at low bit-rate, ranging from 40 Kbps to 250 Kbps.

  • The pitch searching is a vital process in a vocoder. Generally, the method of pitch searching is employed after highlighting the periodicity, where a correlation is identified with the signal by changing the interval of two pulses. When the correlation value reaches the peak, the pitch can be found by the pulse interval because it is the repetition interval with most striking period. However if the identified period happens to be one of half period, double period or triple period, this cannot be considered as the pitch period. Many methods were suggested to solve this problem. An inaccurate pitch could be obtained as well, when there is an interval where signal amplitude is not constant but varies abruptly in the frame. To solve this matter, searching the pitch by dividing a frame into various subframes is adopted, but too much calculation has to be followed while it leads the correct value. This paper suggests an algorithm to resolve these two problems. First, to search the pitch after advance correction of the signal energy level with an estimated overall energy change ratio in the frame before pitch search to reduce half period, double period and triple period is suggested. Second, to vary the number of subframes by predicting the amplitude change rate in the frame by the energy ratio obtained by the above-mentioned method is advised. If these two methods are applied, the pitch searching time can be reduced and the general pitch searching performance can be improved without affecting the sound quality in the synthesized signal.

  • This paper presents a novel Parameter-Independent Fictive-Axis (PIFA) approach for the Voltage-Oriented Control (VOC) algorithm used in grid-tied single-phase inverters. VOC is based on the transformation of the single-phase grid current into the synchronous reference frame. As a result, an orthogonal current signal is needed. Traditionally, this signal has been obtained from fixed time delays, digital filters or a Hilbert transformation. Nevertheless, these solutions present stability and transient drawbacks. Recently, the Fictive Axis Emulation (FAE) VOC has emerged as an alternative for the generation of the quadrature current signal. FAE requires detailed information of the grid current filter along with its transfer function for signal creation. When the transfer function is not accurate, the direct and quadrature current components present steady-state oscillations as the fictive two-phase system becomes unbalanced. Moreover, the digital implementation of the transfer function imposes an additional computing burden on the VOC. The PIFA VOC presented in this paper, takes advantage of the reference current to create the required orthogonal current, which effectively eliminates the need for the filter transfer function. Moreover, the fictive signal amplitude and phase do not change with a frequency drift, which results in an increased reliability. This yields a fast, linear and stable system that can be installed without fine tuning. To demonstrate the good performance of the PIFA VOC, simulation and experimental results are presented.

  • In this paper, we proposed a content-based video search method using the eigen value of key frame and intensity component. We divided the video stream into shot units to extract key frame representing each shot, and get the intensity distribution of the shot from the database generated by using ECA(Eigen Component Analysis). The generated codebook, their index value for each key frame, and the intensity values were used for database. The query image is utilized to find video stream that has the most similar frame by using the euclidean distance measure among the codewords in the codebook. The experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm is superior to any other methols in the search outcome since it makes use of eigen value and intensity elements, and reduces the processing time etc.

  • A new technology on video frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) is presented by combining the median filter and motion estimation (ME) with an occlusion detection (OD) method. First, ME is performed to have a motion vector. Then, the OD method is used to refine motion vector in the occlusion region. Since the wrong motion vector can be obtained with high possibility in the occluded area, a median filtering that less depends on the motion vector is applied to that area, and since the motion vector is continuous and robust in the non-occluded area, BDMC(Bi-Directional Motion Compensated interpolation) is applied to obtain interpolated image in that area. BDMC using the bi-directional motion vectors achieves good results when continuity and robustness of the motion vector is higher. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than the conventional approach. The average gain of PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) is approximately 0.16 dB in the test sequences compared with BDMC.

  • In applying LCD to TV application, one of the most significant factors to be improved is image sticking on the moving picture. LCD is different from CRT in the sense that it's continuous passive device, which holds images in entire frame period, while impulse type device generate image in very short time. To reduce image sticking problem related to hold typedisplay mode, we made an experiment to drive TN-LCD like CRT. We made articulate images by turn on-off backlight, and we realized the ratio of Back Light on-off time by counting between on time and off time for video signal input during 1 frame (16.7ms). Conventional CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) cannot follow fast on-off speed, so we evaluated new fluorescent substances of light source to improve residual light characteristic of CCFL. We realized articulate image generation similar to CRT by CCFL blinking drive and TN-LCD overdriving. As a result, reduced image sticking phenomenon was validated by naked eye and response time measurement.

  • A wavelet analysis in a field of analytics is to create a reconstruction theorem of Plancherel form. And a series of wavelet is to create a discrete is to create a discrete reconstruction theorem for a frame theory and a multiresolution analysis theory. As a generation of reconstruction theorem, a wavelet correspond to it is generated. That is to be like a basic wavelet which is satisfied an admissibility condition in CWT and a Daubechies wavelet using MRA in wavelet series and a Meyer wavelet using a frame theory. In this paper, we discover a discrete reconstruction theorem which is superior to a conventional discrete reconstruction theorem by extending admissibility condition used in CWT and develop a New $L^1$-wavelet group. A new $L^1$-wavelet is applied to a signal reconstruction and a signal analysis in time-frequency region.

  • We propose a 3D modeling method for surface inspection of non-constant velocity moving object. 1'lie laser lines reflect tile surface curvature. We can acquire 3D surface information by analyzing projected laser lines on object. In this paper, we use multi-line laser to improve the single stripe method and high speed of single frame. Binarization and edge extraction of frame image were proposed for robust laser each line extraction. A new labeling method was used for laser line labeling. We acquired some feature points for image matching from the frame data and juxtaposed the frames data to obtain a 3D shape image. We verified the superiority of proposed method by applying it to inspect container's damages.

  • According to the development of digital media technologies various algorithms for video clip matching have been proposed to match the video sequences efficiently. A large number of video search methods have focused on frame-wise query, whereas a relatively few algorithms have been presented for video clip matching or video shot matching. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm to index the video sequences and to retrieve the sequences for video clip query. To improve the accuracy and performance of video sequence matching, we employ the Cauchy function as a similarity measure between histograms of consecutive frames, which yields a high performance compared with conventional measures. The key frames extracted from segmented video shots can be used not only for video shot clustering but also for video sequence matching or browsing, where the key frame is defined by the frame that is significantly different from the previous frames. Experimental results with color video sequences show that the proposed method yields the high matching performance and accuracy with a low computational load compared with conventional algorithms.
