Objective : Foville syndrome & Foville-Millard-Gubler syndrome is a disease characterized by facial palsy, ipsilateral conjugate gaze palsy and ipsilateral internal strabismus. There has never been a clinical report of this disease in oriental medicine. Since gradual improvement has been experienced with oriental medical treatments based on facial palsy and paralytic strabismus in this case, it is worthwhile to introduce this disorder and report the case referring to clinical record. Methods : 75-year-old female patient and 45-year-old male patient suffering right facial palsy, right conjugate gaze palsy and right internal strabismus were treated with acupuncture, herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture and electroacupuncture. Result : Concurrence of right facial palsy, right conjugate gaze palsy and right internal strabismus was diagnosed with Foville syndrome or Foville-Millard-Gubler syndrome which is generally caused by the impairment of PPRF, abducens and facial nerves on the affected side and showed improvement with oriental medical treatments. Conclusion : More accurate diagnosis, more aggressive treatments and further researches are all required on this disease afterwards.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case report is to show the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) on a patient with horizontal eye movement disorder due to Foville syndrome. ■ Methods A patient with horizontal eye movement disorder as Foville syndrome was treated with herbal medication, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Then we evaluated the improvement with mobility impairment, length of movement and House-Brackmann scale before and after treatment ■ Results Improvements of mobility impairment, distance at left gaze and House-Brackmann scale were observed after the TKM treatment. ■ Conclusion This case report shows the effect of TKM treatment on horizontal eye movement disorder due to Foville syndrome.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of phamacopuncture used in facial nerve palsy related articles that have been published in the Korean medicine journal. Methods : 242 papers related to facial nerve palsy were retrieved from Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System(OASIS) and Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal(KTKP). We selected 13 research papers treated with pharmacopuncture for facial nerve palsy. We analyzed for type of pharmacopuncture used, treatment point and clinical type. Results : 1. The number of searched articles is thirteen. 2. The most common clinical type of facial nerve palsy is Bell's palsy. Other types are accompanying tympanitis type, herpes zoster oticus, caused by traumatic temporal bone fracture type, Foville syndrome, Foville-Millard-Gubler syndrome and multiple cerebral neuritis. 3. In the case of pharmacopuncture, the most frequently used type is Hominis Placenta Pharmacopunture. The second is Hwangreonhaedok-tang and Hwangreon Pharmacopuncture. Other than that BV, Sinbaro, Jungsongouhyul Pharmacopuncture, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum Pharmacopuncture and Ginseng pharmacopuncture are used. 4. The most frequently used part as a treatment point is ST4, ST6, TE17.
