  • Recently, Due to the rapid development of the internet and IT technology, users can conveniently use various services provided by the server anytime and anywhere. However, these technologies are exposed to various security threat such as tampering, eavesdropping, and exposing of user's identity and location information. In 2016, Nikooghadam et al. proposed a lightweight authentication and key agreement protocol preserving user anonymity. This paper overcomes the vulnerability of Nikooghadam's authentication protocol proposed recently. This paper suggests an enhanced remote user authentication protocol that protects user's password and provides perfect forward secrecy.

  • User authentication scheme is a method for controlling unauthorized users' access to securely share the services and resources provided by the server and for verifying users with access rights. Initial user authentication scheme was based on passwords. Nowadays, various authentication schemes such as ID based, smart-card based, and attribute based are being researched. The study of Lee et al. suggested a user authentication scheme that provides forward secrecy and protects anonymity of users. However, it is vulnerable to attacks by outsiders and attackers who have acquired smart-cards. In this paper, we propose a modified smart-card authentication scheme to complement the weakness of the previous studies. The proposed user authentication scheme provides the security for the ID guessing attack and the password guessing attacks of the attacker who obtained the login request message and the user's smart-card.

  • The widespread implementation of RFID in ubiquitous computing is constrained considerably by privacy and security unreliability of the wireless communication channel. This failure to satisfy the basic, security needs of the technology has a direct impact of the limited computational capability of the tags, which are essential for the implementation of RFID. Because the universal application of RFID means the use of low cost tags, their security is limited to lightweight cryptographic primitives. Therefore, EPCGen2, which is a class of low cost tags, has the enabling properties to support their communication protocols. This means that satisfying the security needs of EPCGen2 could ensure low cost security because EPCGen2 is a class of low cost, passive tags. In that way, a solution to the hindrance of low cost tags lies in the security of EPCGen2. To this effect, many lightweight authentication protocols have been proposed to improve the privacy and security of communication protocols suitable for low cost tags. Although many EPCgen2 compliant protocols have been proposed to ensure the security of low cost tags, the optimum security has not been guaranteed because many protocols are prone to well-known attacks or fall short of acceptable computational load. This paper proposes a remedy protocol to the flyweight RFID authentication protocol proposed by Burmester and Munilla against a desynchronization attack. Based on shared pseudorandom number generator, this protocol provides mutual authentication, anonymity, session unlinkability and forward security in addition to security against a desynchronization attack. The desirable features of this protocol are efficiency and security.

  • Many businesses and organizations use smartcard-based user authentication for remote access. In the meantime, through various studies, dynamic ID-based remote user authentication protocols for distributed multi-server environments have been proposed to protect the connection between users and servers. Among them, Qiu et al. proposed an efficient smart card-based remote user authentication system that provides mutual authentication and key agreement, user anonymity, and resistance to various types of attacks. Later, Andola et al. found various vulnerabilities in the authentication scheme proposed by Qiu et al., and overcame the flaws in their authentication scheme, and whenever the user wants to log in to the server, the user ID is dynamically changed before logging in. An improved authentication protocol is proposed. In this paper, by analyzing the operation process and vulnerabilities of the protocol proposed by Andola et al., it was revealed that the protocol proposed by Andola et al. was vulnerable to offline smart card attack, dos attack, lack of perfect forward secrecy, and session key attack.

  • Providing security has been always on priority in all areas of computing and communication, and for the systems that are low on computing power, implementing appropriate and efficient security mechanism has been a continuous challenge for the researchers. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system is such an environment, which requires the design and implementation of efficient security mechanism. Earlier, the security protocols for RFID based on hash functions and symmetric key cryptography have been proposed. But, due to high strength and requirement of less key size in elliptic curve cryptography, the focus of researchers has been on designing efficient security protocol for RFID based on elliptic curves. In this paper, an efficient elliptic curve signcryption based security protocol for RFID has been proposed, which provides mutual authentication, confidentiality, non-repudiation, integrity, availability, forward security, anonymity, and scalability. Moreover, the proposed protocol successfully provides resistance from replay attack, impersonation attack, location tracking attack, de-synchronization attack, denial of service attack, man-in-the-middle attack, cloning attack, and key-compromise attack. Results have revealed that the proposed protocol is efficient than the other related protocols as it takes less computational time and storage cost, especially for the tag, making it ideal to be used for RFID systems.

  • In electronic ticketing system, the malicious behavior of scalpers damages the customer's interest and disturbs the normal order of market. In order to solve the problem of scalpers, we took two steps. Firstly, we established the electronic ticketing system based on the consortium blockchain (CB-ETS). By establishing CB-ETS, we can make the ticketing market develop better in a controlled environment and be managed by the members in the consortium blockchain. Secondly, we put forward a kind of taxation mechanism for suppressing scalpers based on CB-ETS. Together with the regulatory mechanism, our scheme can effectively reduce the scalpers' profits and further inhibit scalpers. Through the above two steps, the scheme can effectively resist the malicious behavior of scalpers. Among them, in the process of transferring tickets, we optimized the transfer mechanism to achieve a win-win situation. Finally, we analyzed the security and efficiency of our scheme. Our scheme realizes the anonymity through the mixed currency protocol based on ring signature and guarantees the unforgeability of tickets by multi-signature in the process of modifying the invalidity of tickets. It also could resist to Dos attacks and Double-Spending attacks. The efficiency analysis shows that our scheme is significantly superior to relevant works.

  • With the rapid development of the Internet of Things, the problem of privacy protection has been paid great attention. Recently, Nikooghadam et al. pointed out that Kumari et al.'s protocol can neither resist off-line guessing attack nor preserve user anonymity. Moreover, the authors also proposed an authentication supportive session initial protocol, claiming to resist various vulnerability attacks. Unfortunately, this paper proves that the authentication protocols of Kumari et al. and Nikooghadam et al. have neither the ability to preserve perfect forward secrecy nor the ability to resist key-compromise impersonation attack. In order to remedy such flaws in their protocols, we design a lightweight authentication protocol using elliptic curve cryptography. By way of informal security analysis, it is shown that the proposed protocol can both resist a variety of attacks and provide more security. Afterward, it is also proved that the protocol is resistant against active and passive attacks under Dolev-Yao model by means of Burrows-Abadi-Needham logic (BAN-Logic), and fulfills mutual authentication using Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications (AVISPA) software. Subsequently, we compare the protocol with the related scheme in terms of computational complexity and security. The comparative analytics witness that the proposed protocol is more suitable for practical application scenarios.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is vulnerable to a wide range of security risks, which can be effectively mitigated by applying Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) sharing as a proactive mitigation approach. In realizing CTI sharing, it is of paramount importance to guarantee end-to-end protection of the shared information as unauthorized disclosure of CTI is disastrous for organizations using IoT. Furthermore, resource-constrained devices should be supported through lightweight operations. Unfortunately, the aforementioned are not satisfied by the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), which state-of-the-art CTI sharing systems mainly depends on. As a promising alternative to HTTPS, Ephemeral Diffie-Hellman over COSE (EDHOC) can be considered because it meets the above requirements. However, EDHOC in its current version contains several security flaws, most notably due to the unprotected initial message. Consequently, we propose a lightweight end-to-end privacy-preserving security protocol that improves the existing draft EDHOC protocol by utilizing previously shared keys and keying materials while providing ticket-based optimized reauthentication. The proposed protocol is not only formally validated through BAN-logic and AVISPA, but also proved to fulfill essential security properties such as mutual authentication, secure key exchange, perfect forward secrecy, anonymity, confidentiality, and integrity. Also, comparing the protocol's performance to that of the EDHOC protocol reveals a substantial improvement with a single roundtrip to allow frequent CTI sharing.

  • Recently, due to the increase in the use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, the amount of data transmitted and processed to cloud computing servers has increased rapidly. As a result, network problems (delay, server overload and security threats) are emerging. In particular, edge computing with lower computational capabilities than cloud computing requires a lightweight authentication algorithm that can easily authenticate numerous IoT devices. In this paper, we proposed a key-agreement protocol of a lightweight algorithm that guarantees anonymity and forward and backward secrecy between IoT and edge devices. and the proposed algorithm is stable in MITM and replay attacks for edge device and IoT. As a result of comparing and analyzing the proposed key-agreement protocol with previous studies, it was shown that a lightweight protocol that can be efficiently used in IoT and edge devices.
