  • Casting are widely used nodays as complicated and diversified forming materials due to its superior castability. However the welding of cast iron has not been accompaniced satisfactory resulting in an microstructure change happened in the heat affected zone (HAZ), especially the graphite are formed and shaped consecutively in the area and it has great impact on the crack occuring and growth together with martensite forming in this area. It case of gray cast iron welding, it is required for pre-heat treatment or specific welding consumables to restrain forming the martensite in the HAZ. In this study, by applying the plasma surface overlaid welding. Fe-Mn-Al steel powder has been used for improvement of anti-crackability in the HAZ and much attention has been paid to establish the overlaid welding method for gray cast iron so that optimum welding conditions may prevent the cracking. With our experiments, we have found that to prevent defects which may occur in the HAZ, the overlaid welding technique for gray cast iron has been developed.

  • In this study, we developed a process technology to fabricate RFID tag antennas using a one-sheet inlay micro-pattern forming process by press-molding RFID tag antennas on insulation sheet layers, such as polymer films, using ultrasonic longitudinal vibration. In addition, a fine pattern applicable for RFID tag antennas was manufactured using a $25{\mu}m$ thick thin-plate square wire; this is in contrast to the method that uses a conventional round wire. The developed ultrasonic indentation process can be used to fabricate fine pattern of the RFID antenna using one piece of equipment. The simplified manufacturing process technology has a shorter manufacturing time and is more economical. The developed RFID tag antenna forming technique involves pressing the $25{\mu}m$ square wire directly on the thin sheet insulation sheet of maximum thickness $200{\mu}m$, using a 60 kHz ultrasonic tool horn.

  • Most of member parts have experienced severe springback problems because of their open shape Now it becomes imperative to develop an effective method, which can resolve these problems. However, there remain several obstacles to get accurate estimation of shape error. In analysis, we have to analyze the total process including forming, trimming and flanging. Furthermore, it is another challenge to compare the computed result with the real shape. In this study we developed an analysis program for the springback analysis. We could achive a big enhancement in computation time in springback analysis by using latest equation solving technique and could get a more robust solution conversence by contination method. We have approached this problem in two steps. In the first step, we analyzed forming stage to solve tearing and wrinkling problems. In the second step, we have analyzed full process and have done springback analysis with the same boundary condition as field measuring conditions. We have investigated the accuracy of springback analysis in terms of gap and flush used for insfection of real autobody panels. We found good and effective agreement with the observed results.

  • The effects of heat treatments and testing temperatures on the mechanical properties of Invar materials were investigated through experiments, which call influence the formability in metal forming fields. Annealing temperatures were changed from $900^{\circ}C$ to $1200^{\circ}C$ with an increment of $100^{\circ}C$ under two different furnace atmosphere(vacuum and H$_2$gas). Microstructure and hardness tests were performed for annealed specimens at room temperature(RT) and tensile tests were also performed by changing annealing temperatures as well as testing temperatures from RT to $300^{\circ}C$. The grain size of annealed materials increased with increasing annealing temperature, while micro-hardness distributions showed almost same hardness values regardless of annealing temperatures. Strength ratio (tensile/yield strength), which influences the forming characteristics of sheet metal, remained almost constant for various experimental conditions in case of unannealed specimens. However, it showed increasing tendency with increasing both annealing and testing temperatures, particularly at the testing temperature higher than $200^{\circ}C$. Therefore it can be concluded that press formability of fully-annealed Invar material can be improved by warm forming technique.

  • This paper deals with an automated computer-aided process planning and die design system by which designer can determine operation sequences even if they have a little experience in process planning and die design for axisymmetric products. An attempt is made to link programs incorporating a number of expert design rules with the process variables obtained by commercial FEM softwares, DEFORM and ANSYS, to form a useful package. The system is composed of four main modules. The process planning and the die design modules consider several factors, such as the complexities of preform geometry, punch and die profiles, specifications of available multi former, and the availability of standard parts. They can provide a flexible process based on either the reduction in the number of forming sequences by combining the possible two processes in sequence, or the reduction of deviation of the distribution on the level of the required forming loads by controlling the forming ratios. Especially in die design module an optimal design technique and horizontal split die were investigated for determining appropriate dimensions of components of multi-former die set. It is constructed that the proposed method can be beneficial for improving the tool life of die set at practice.

  • Photosynthetic bacteria (PSB) attract considerable interest as useful microorganisms; nevertheless, a generalized culture technique has not been previously reported owing to difficulty in their cultivation. Therefore, a simple culture technique suitable for public use was investigated. Among the PSB tested, the strain Rhodobacter azotoformans EBN-7 was the most suitable for scale-up production because it showed the highest specific growth rate (0.20 h-1) on basal medium. In scale-up cultivation (500 L), R. azotoformans EBN-7 showed 4.50 × 1010 colony-forming units mL-1 (number of viable cells), dry cell weight of 26.8 g/L, and a specific growth rate of 0.15 h-1. Cultivation using this final culture broth (as seed culture) in a 15 L simple reactor was successful, with maintenance of cell activity evident. For use as seed culture, the maximum allowable preservation period of R. azotoformans EBN-7 at 4℃ was 3 months. When R. azotoformans EBN-7 cultivated in a simple technique was applied to shrimp aquaculture water, NH4+-N was reduced from 0.61 mg/L to 0.24 mg/L (by 60.7%) in 4 days in comparison with the control. Thus, this simple culture technique using R. azotoformans EBN-7 has the potential for a good removal efficiency of NH4+-N, making seed culture easier and suitable for public use.

  • In cold forging of piston-pin for automobile parts, the flow defect appears by the dead metal zone. This appearance evidently happens in products with a thin piercing thickness for the dimension accuracy and the decrease of material loss. The best method that can prevent flow defect is removing dead metal zone. The purpose of this study is to investigate the material flow behavior of forward-backward extruded piston-pin through the relative velocity ratio and the stroke control of upper moving punch & container using the flow control forming technique. The finite element simulations are applied to analyse the flow defect, then the results are compared with the plasticine model material experiments. Finally, the model experiment results are in good agreement with the FE simulation ones.

  • In this paper damage propagation of a material during forming is investigated with the concept of continuum damage mechanics. An isotropic damage model based on the theory of materials of type N is adopted to describe the damage process of a ductile material with large elasto-viscoplastic deformation. The stiffness degradation of the loaded material is chosen as a damage measure. The highly nonlinear equilibrium equations are reduced to the incremental weak form and approximated by the total Lagrangian finite element method. To simulate contact condition, extended interior penalty method with modified coulomb friction law is adopted. The displacement control method along with the modified Riks' continuation technique is used to solve the incremental iterative equations. As numerical examples, upsetting problem and backward extrusion problem are simulated and the results of damage propagation and $J_2$ stress contours with and without friction are presented.

  • An upper bound elemental technique(UBET) has been carried out to predict the forming load, the deformation pattern and the extrude length of the lateral extrusion of a spider for the automotive universal joint. For the upper bound analysis, a kinematically admissible velocity field(KAVF) is proposed. From the proposed velocity field, the upper bound load, the deformation pattern and the average length of the extruded billets are determined by minimizing the total energy consumption rate which is a function of unknown velocities at each element. Experiments are carried out with antimony-lead billets at room temperature using the rectangular shape punch. The theoretical prediction of the forming load, the deformation pattern and the extruded length are good in agreement with the experimental results.

  • Process design of multi-step wire drawing process, conducted by means of finite element analysis and ANN(Artificial Neural Network) has been considered. The investigated problem involves the ade-quate selection of the drawing die angle and the correspondent reduction rate in the condition of desired initial and final diameter. Combinations of the process parameters which are used in finite ele-ment simulation are selected by using the orthogonal array. Also the orthogonal array. Also the orthogonal array and the results of finite element simulation which are related to the process energy are used as train data of ANN. In this study it is shown that the application of new technique using ANN and Othogonal array table to the process design of metal forming process is useful method.
