고차 요인의 형성적 측정방법에 대한 식별 및 분석방법 (Specifying and Analyzing Formative Measurement of High-order Factor)

  • 기존의 방법론 관련 문헌에서는 반영적 지표를 기반으로 다측정 지표들의 개발과 타당성 검정에 관한 다양한 문헌적 고찰을 수행하였음에도 불구하고 형성적 지표에 대한 관심은 부족하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 형성적 지표를 사용함에 있어서 필요한 접근법에 대한 연구자들의 이해를 돕기 위함이다. 또한 연구자들이 자신의 모델을 위해 필요한 적합한 지표의 선택에 도움을 제공하기 위해 형성적 지표의 본질에 대해서도 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 형성적 지표에 대한 기반이론을 살펴보고 다음으로 실증 분석에서 사용된 사례를 통해 형성적 지표의 접근법과 연구수행 절차에 대해 살펴본다. 마지막으로 실증 연구에서 지표의 사용에 관한 제언을 하고자 한다.

  • 국내 정보시스템 문헌에서는 형성적 구성변수에 대한 연구가 거의 없다. 따라서 올바른 구성변수와 측정변수의 관계, 즉 반영적 혹은 형성적 구성변수의 설정은 가장 현실에 가까운 성과 평가와 올바른 인과모형을 검정하는 데 필수적이다. 본 연구 목적은 포괄적인 문헌 고찰로 반영지표와 형성지표에 대해 정확히 이해하고 올바른 구성 및 개발 방법론을 정보시스템 평가 분야에 적용하는 것이다. 그리고 정보시스템 성과 평가에 대한 형성적 지표를 개발할 수 있는 올바른 지침을 제시하는 것이다. 이와 같은 목적을 달성하고자 다음과 같은 연구과정을 수행하였다. 먼저, 정보화사업 성과 요인과 성과 평가에 관한 기저 이론과 선행 연구 모형을 검토하였다. 그리고 정보화사업 성과 평가 구성변수와 평가지표 개발 및 타당성 검증을 위한 지침(Guideline)을 통하여 정보화사업 성과 평가에 대한 올바른 형성적 구성변수 및 반영적 구성변수를 식별하였다. 이에 따라, 체계적으로 구성변수를 올바르게 식별 및 분류하여, 향후 연구자가 정보화사업 성과 평가 구성변수의 올바른 구성변수를 개발할 수 있도록 하였다.

Call for an Open Discussion on Empirical Viability of Causal Indicators

  • Over the past decade, we have witnessed Serious Debates in MISQ and Other Journals Between Two Camps that have Differing Views on the use of Causal Indicators to Measure Constructs. There is the Camp that advocates Causal Indicators (ADVOCATE) and the Camp that opposes Their Usage (OPPONENT). The Debates have been primarily centered on the OPPONENT's Argument that the Meaning of a Latent Variable is determined by its Outcome Variables. However, Little Effort has been made to Validate the ADVOCATE's Dispute (Against the OPPONENT's Arguments) that the Meaning of a Latent Variable is decided by its Causal Indicators if there is no Misspecification. Our Study precisely examines the Integrity of the Argument. For this, we empirically examine how the two Primary Psychometric Properties-Comprehensiveness and Interrelationship-of Causal Indicators Influence Theory Testing between Latent Variables through Three Different Tests (i.e., Comprehensive Test, Interrelationship Test, and Mixed Test). Conducted on Two Different Datasets, Our Analysis Consistently Reveals that Structural Path Coefficients are Hardly Sensitive to the Changes (i.e., Misspecification) in the Properties of Causal Indicators. The Discovery offers Important Evidence that the Sound Theoretical Logic of a Causal Model is not in Sync with the Empirical Mechanism of Parameter Estimation. This Underscores that a Latent Variable Formed by Causal Indicators is empirically an elusive notion that is Difficult to Operationalize. As Our Results have Significant Implications on the Integrity of Numerous IS studies which have conducted Theory or Hypothesis Testing Using Causal Indicators, we strongly advocate Open Discussions among Methodologists regarding Our Findings and Their Implications for Both Published IS Research and Future Practices.

정보시스템 성과평가를 위한 형성적 구성변수(Constructs) 및 측정지표 개발 (Development of Formative Constructs and Measurements for Performance Evaluation of Information Systems)

  • Traditionally in IS studies, the relationship between construct and its measurement items tends to be assumed to be reflective, meaning that the measurements are a reflection of the construct. In reality, however, the nature of the construct can be often formative, which means that its measurement items describe and define the construct rather than vice versa. The purpose of this study was to investigate theoretical and empirically-analysed differences between formative construct and reflective construct through comprehensive interdisciplinary literature review. And then on the basis of these differences, we intended to derive the rule of specifying whether the construct is formative or reflective and propose the methodology of testing the validity(content validity, construct validity, internal consistency and external construct) of formative construct and its measurements, differentiated from that in the case of reflective construct. Also, we suggested the concrete statistical testing methods such as VTT(Vanishing Tetrad Test), MIMIC(Multiple Indicators and Multiple Causes) test and multi-collinearity test. In order to examine the applicability of this methodology to developing the constructs for performance evaluation of IS(Information Systems), we tried to identify its attribute(formative or reflective) and test the validity for the construct arbitrarily chosen among them which had been derived in our previous IS performance evaluation study by using this methodology. The result of the examination was that the methodology proposed in this study was significantly valid and effective in the area of IS performance evaluation.

The Effects of Job Quality on the Health of Wage Workers: Congruence between the Hard and Soft Job Quality

  • Background: This study analyzes the linear and non-linear effects of the hard and soft dimensions of job quality on the overall health of wage workers. It also examines the congruence or fit between the hard and soft job quality on the overall health of wage workers. Methods: This study measured thirty indicators that constitute job quality and reduced the indicators into twelve sub-dimensions of job quality using reflective factor analysis. In addition, this study derived two dimensions of job quality from the twelve subdimensions, namely the hard and soft job quality using formative factor analysis. This paper applied the response surface analysis to analyze the congruence effect between the two dimensions of job quality. Results: A logarithmic relationship was found between the dimension of hard job quality and the worker's overall health. This study also verified that the congruence effect between the two dimensions of job quality does not exist, and the combined effect of job quality is lower when the two dimensions of job quality are at the same level than the effect when either level of job quality is high or low. Conclusions: Although hard and soft job quality has independent positive effects on the overall health of wage workers, the two dimensions of job quality are not congruent or not in harmony with each other. This incongruence between hard and soft job quality, together with a higher impact of hard job quality, suggests that the role of soft job quality on overall health is relatively limited.

벌크터미널 서비스품질 분석 및 이용주체별 차이에 관한 연구: 부산항 벌크터미널을 중심으로 (A Study on the Service Quality Analysis and the Difference Between User Groups in Bulk Terminals of Busan Port)

  • 해상운송화물이 꾸준하게 증가하면서 화물을 처리하는 터미널에 대한 관심도 증가하고 있다. 그러나 터미널과 관련된 대부분의 국내연구는 컨테이너터미널에 국한되어 있다. 본 연구는 벌크터미널의 서비스품질 관점에서 수행하였다. 벌크터미널 서비스 이용자를 크게 선사와 화주로 구분하여 제공받는 서비스에 대한 차이를 비교분석하였다. 또한 본 연구에서 제안한 속성 가운데 유형성은 선석 수나 수심, 장비 등의 변수들이 반영되어 설명되기 때문에 형성지표로 분석하는 것이 적합하다고 판단하였다. 따라서 일반적인 구조방정식모델에서 활용되는 반영적 측정모델뿐만 아니라 형성적 측정모델을 결합한 분석을 시도하였다. 전체 측정모델의 분석결과 공감성과 성과 만족도 간의 관계를 제외한 모든 항목이 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 이용주체별 차이 분석 결과는 화주가 선주보다 신뢰 반응성이 만족 성과에 미치는 영향에 대해 더 중요하게 평가하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 향후 벌크터미널의 경쟁력 확대를 위한 전략적 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.

분양상가 투자행동요인과 속성들이 투자의도에 미치는 영향: 요인과 속성수준에서의 비교 및 투자의도 세분화집단 간 비교 (Effects of Investment Behavior Factors and Sub-attributes for Lots Shopping Building on Investment Intention: Comparative Studies between Factor Level and Attribute Level and among Investors Segmented by Investment Intention)

  • 부동산 투자행동요인은 수익성, 위험성(안정성), 환금성(유동성), 규제성(규제완화) 요인 등으로 구분되며, 이러한 투자행동요인들의 하위속성들은 일반적으로 조형지표적인 성격을 지니고 있다. 조형지표는 반영지표와 다르게 투자행동요인들이 종속변수에 미치는 영향력뿐만 아니라 하위속성들이 종속변수에 미치는 영향력의 파악도 가능하기 때문에 요인과 하위속성간에 영향력 비교에 대한 이론적·실무적 필요성이 제시되어 왔다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 분양상가 투자행동요인들과 투자의도간의 인과관계와 하위속성들과 투자의도간의 인과관계를 전체집단, 투자의도가 높은 집단, 투자의도가 낮은 집단으로 세분화하여 실증적으로 비교분석함으로써 분양상가 마케팅에 도움이 되는 정보를 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 수도권과 세종시에서 상가개발 및 분양을 수행해온 업체의 고객 DB에 있는 기존투자자 237명을 대상으로 설문조사를 수행하고 다중회귀분석을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 요인수준에서는 전체집단과 투자의도가 낮은 집단에서는 수익성과 규제성의 영향력이 유의하였지만, 투자의도가 높은 집단에서는 위험성과 환금성의 영향력이 유의하였다. 속성수준에서도 세 집단의 결과가 모두 다르게 나타났다.

공과대학 교수의 교육업적평가 지표 개발 연구 (A Study on the Development of Teaching Evaluation Indicators for Faculty in Engineering College)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the current evaluation methods on faculty performance at Korean engineering colleges and develop teaching evaluation indicators for faculty performance. We investigated the faculty performance cases in engineering colleges inside and outside of the Korea, the engineering faculty's awareness of evaluation factors for their educational performance, and the appropriate ratios by indicating factors. Also we developed evaluation indicators for educational achievements to improve the current faculty performance system. 227 engineering faculty members answered our survey questionnaire. The result in the case study on faculty performance evaluation is as follows. First, most items of faculty performance evaluation are about quantitative indicators that can easily conduct objective evaluation. Second, evaluation items of faculty performance are mostly focused on instruction in a classroom. Third, the evaluation by students and administrative managers is more dominant than that by professors or their colleagues, document evaluation than on site evaluation, general evaluation than formative evaluation, and static evaluation than dynamic evaluation. Lastly, Some universities tend to substitute outstanding articles for underperforming instruction. The evaluation indicators that we have developed can be implemented by four types of subjects, such as students, professors, their colleagues, and deans. Also, based on the evaluation indicators, faculties can freely select their evaluation domains depending on the their tracks, such as a teaching track, a research track, or an industry-university cooperation track. The mandatory evaluation fields include teaching, student counselling, teaching portfolio evaluation by mentors or colleagues, class management evaluation by deans, and self-evaluation. The other areas are optional and professors can choose their evaluation factors.

실내디자인 표현방법의 유형화가 적용된 패션 브랜드 플래그쉽 스토어(Flagship store)에 관한 연구 - 양식적 이미지 특성을 중심으로 - (A Study on in Fashion Brand Flagship Stores Applied to the Formation Interior Design Expression Methods - Focusing Centering on the stylistic image characteristics -)

  • In the current age, as the importance of image is increased, brand images are strengthened, and various ways of expressing space are suggested considering the life styles of consumers. Recently, flagship stores are attempting various ways of expressing interior deigns and the flow of life culture, which can maximize the characteristics of image in a large, complex space. Centering on this trend, this study is conducted to explore an objective standard for the stylistic image characteristics reflecting the formative expression trend; to investigate various expression methods of images that are suggested by flagship stores; and to suggest the indicators of design. Based on this background, the formative trend is classified into the expression trends of minimalism and deconstructionism. An image evaluation test was conducted on the selected brand cases by applying the classification, and the following results are obtained from a comparative analysis. In this study, a stylistic analysis of expression methods is suggested from the stylistic image characteristics of each brand as well as from the reliability and validity of the expression trend. It can be concluded that such stylistic image characteristics are important factors in relation with fashion and architecture, and they can be used for differentiating design expression methods.

Effect of maternal and child factors on stunting: partial least squares structural equation modeling

  • Background: Stunting is affected by various factors from mother and child. Previous studies assessed only one or more influencing variables. Unfortunately, nor the significant influence of maternal and child factors nor the indicators contributing to maternal and child factors that affect the stunting incidence have ever been analyzed. Purpose: This study analyzed the effect of maternal and child factors on stunting and the significant indicators that shape the maternal and child factors that impact stunting. Methods: This was a case-control study. Overall, 132 stunted children and 132 nonstunted children in Purbalingga Regency, Central Java Province, participated in the research. Direct interviews and medical record reviews were conducted to assess the studied variables. The research data were tested using the partial least squares structural equation with a formative model. Results: Maternal factors directly affected the occurrence of stunting (t=3.527, P<0.001) with an effect of 30.3%. Maternal factors also contributed a significant indirect effect on stunting through child factors (t=4.762, P<0.001) with an effect of 28.2%. Child factors affected the occurrence of stunting (t=5.749, P<0.001) with an effect of 49.8%. The child factor was influenced by maternal factor with an effect of 56.7% (t=10.014, P<0.001). The moderation analysis results demonstrated that maternal and child factors were moderate predictive variables of stunting occurrence. Conclusion: Child factors have more significant and direct effects on stunting than maternal factors but are greatly affected by them.
