During the growth of macroscopically dislocation-free Czochralski silicon crystal, micro precipitates causing stacking faults in the silicon wafer during the oxidation are formed Thermal history the cryscausing acquire during the growth process is known to be a key factor determining the nucleation of this micro precipitates. In this article, various mechanisms suggested on the formation of microdefects in the silicon crystal are reviewed to secure the nucleation mechanism of the micro precipitates causing OSF whose pattern is normally ring or annular in CZ silicon crytal. B-defects which are known as vacancy clustering are considered to be the heterogeneous nucleation sites for the micro precipitates causing OSF in the CZ silicon crystals.
In Nb, V and Ti added steels, carbo-nitrides are formed due to their strong interaction with C and N. The formation of carbo-nitrides has an important role to control the microstructure as well as mechanical properties by grain size refinement and precipitation hardening. However, the quantitative analysis of distribution of precipitates and the effect of precipitates on the phase transformation and mechanical properties are still far from satisfactory. In this study, the quantitative analysis of precipitates in austenite was investigated using the fact that the formation of precipitates in Nb, V and Ti added steels accelerates austenite/ferrite transformation. The formation of precipitates was controlled by adjusting holding temperature and time in austenite region, transformed Volume fractions were measured by dilatometer during slow cooling, Iso-precipitation kinetics were determined by comparing 5% and 50% volumes transformed at various conditions respectively. The result was compared with the calculated.
Microstructural analysis was conducted to observe the effect of aging treatments in a Cr-Mn austenitic stainless steel containing nitrogen, and the amount, size, shape and distribution of precipitates were investigated. It was found that on water quenching from $1000^{\circ}C$ after holding 3 h at that temperature, the steel contained no precipitates observable by optical microscopy. Precipitation of phases begins at places most favorable for the formation of nuclei-in the boundaries of grains and twins. Precipitates were studied in detail by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Chemical compositions of precipitates were examined by the use of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) together with an energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis. Also chromium depletion adjacent to grain boundary precipitates was investigated by the use of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) for a direct examination of the fracture surface chemistry.

This study elucidates the formation mechanism of SnO plate observed during the precipitation reaction of a $SnCl_2$ aqueous solution. $Sn_{21}Cl_{16}(OH)_{14}O_6$ and $Sn_6O_4(OH)_4$ precipitates was formed at pH=3~5 and at pH=11, respectively. When the pH was in the range of 11.5~12.5, the $Sn_6O_4(OH)_4$ precipitates dissolved into $HSnO_2{^-}[Sn_6O_4(OH)_4+4OH^-={6HSnO_2{^-}+2H^+]$ and dissolved $HSnO_2{^-}$ ions reprecipitated to SnO plate $[HSnO_2{^-}+H^+=SnO+H_2O]$. The $Sn_6O_4(OH)_4$ precipitates completely transformed into SnO plate through a repeated process of dissolution-precipitation in the range of pH=11.5~12.5.
The overall objective of this research was to find out the role of rapid mixing conditions in the species of hydrolyzed Al(III) formed by different Al(III) coagulants. When an Al(III) salt is added to water, monomers, polymers, or solid precipitates may form. Different Al(III) coagulants (alum and PACl) show to have different Al species distribution over a rapid mixing condition. During the rapid mixing period, for alum, formation of dissolved Al(III) (monomer and polymer) increases, but for PACl, precipitates of $Al(OH)_{3(s)}$. increases rapidly. Also, for alum, higher mixing speed favoured Al(III) polymers formation over precipitates of $Al(OH)_{3(s)}$ but for PACl, higher mixing speed formed more precipitates of $Al(OH)_{3(s)}$. At A/D and sweep condition, both $Al(OH)_{3(s)}$ and dissolved Al(III) (monomer and polymer) exist, concurrent reactions by both mechanism appear to cause simultaneous precipitation.
Changes in microstructure and damping capacity with aging time for solutionized Mg-Al alloy have been investigated. Discontinuous ${\beta}\;(Mg_{17}Al_{12})$ precipitates form along the primary grain boundaries, the amount of which increases as the aging time increases. The hardness of the matrix with respect to aging time shows a typical "S" shape, indicating a generation of fine continuous precipitates in the matrix during the aging. The peak level of damping capacity is obtained after 1 hour of aging, over which the damping capacity becomes deteriorated continuously. The formation of optimum density of continuous ${\beta}$ precipitates with fine morphology which would act as pinning points for dislocation lines, might be responsible for the improvement of damping capacity.
The formation of acid mine drainage is closely related to water chemistry and ochreous sprecipitates formed at the bottom of creeks because it is initially derived from the possible water-rock interaction in abandoned waste metals at the mine. According to analyses on water, precipitates, and alteration characters of ore metals in Dalseone mine, whitish precipitates formed at pHs above 5 while schwertmannite formed at pH $3{\sim}4$. Water chemistry vary with seasons. The water chemistry of the treatment site measured ir Octoter 2002 is characterized by lower pH, and higher Al, Zn, Cu contents relative to those in March, 2003. In the latter case, As and Cl contents are very high. $^{27}Al$ MAS NMR data show the presence of predominant octahedral Al in whitish precipitates. Metal ore minerals dissolve at margins, cleavage, or comer of crystals where reactive sites are potential. Pyrite dissolves, forming etch pits or smooth faces on the edge.

Twenty four fractions by solvent extraction and/or acid precipitation from fruit body and culture broth of Inonotus obliquus were prepared, and their inhibitory effect against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) was investigated. Among these fractions, acid (1 M HCl) precipitates from cell-free culture broth and fruit body exhibited the highest inhibitory effect on AChE in vitro. Acid precipitates inhibited AChE activity in a concentration-dependant manner and $IC_{50}$ values of both acid precipitates were 0.53 mg/mL. The inhibition pattern was general non-competitive inhibition. The energetic parameters were also determined by dual substrate/temperature design. Both acid precipitates increased the values of Ea, ${\Delta}H,/;{\Delta}G$ and ${\Delta}H^{\ast}$ decreasing the value of ${\Delta}S$ for AChE. The results implied that the acid precipitates from I. obliquus increased the thermodynamic barrier, leading to the breakdown of ES complex and the formation of products as inhibitory mechanism.
To tap the possibility of exploiting the precipitates as flux-pinning center in the Bi-2223 superconducting system, as-received Bi-2223/Ag tapes with the starting composition of Bi$_{1.8}$Pb$_{0.4}$Sr$_2$Ca$_{2.2}$Cu$_3$O$_8$ were post-annealed at various temperature, oxygen partial pressure, and annealing time. The 2$^{nd}$ phases in the annealed specimen were analysed with XRD, SEM, TEM, and EDS. The size and the distribution of the precipitates such as (Ca,Sr)$_2$(Pb,Bi)O$_4$ and Bi$_{0.5}$Pb$_3$Sr$_2$Ca$_2$CuO$_{12+{\delta}}$ (3221) in the Bi-2223 matrix was controllable by varying heat-treatment condition without breaking the connectivity of the 2223 grains. The nano-size precipitates within the 2223 grains are conjectured as working as flux-pinning sites, resulting in increased J$_c$ value.
A study was made to examine the effects of heat-treatment on the microstructures of Cu-bearing HSLA steels. The details of microstructures were studied by using optical microscopy(OM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and hardness test. The as-rolled microstructure of HSLA-A consists of ferrite (${\alpha}$) whereas that of HSLA-B consists of needle-shaped phase. The difference in microstructure can be ascribed to the different amount of Ni, Mn, Mo, Cu which affect the hardenability. The austenite grain size is very small up to $1000^{\circ}C$ owing to the Nb-precipitates. As the austenitizing temperature increases above $1000^{\circ}C$, the austenite grain grows rapidly. There are two hardness peaks in the hardness versus temperature curve, at $500^{\circ}C$ and at $675^{\circ}C$ (HSLA-A), $725^{\circ}C$ (HSLA-B). The peak at $500^{\circ}C$ result from the formation of Cu-precipitates and second hardness peak is created due to the formation of M-A constituents. The hardriess decrease in HSLA-B steel with ageing temperature is small because of the higher amounts of Cu than HSLA-A steel. The fine, round ${\varepsilon}$-Cu precipitates grow with ageing temperature and finally transform into rod shape.
