  • Effects of 13 organic compounds including glucose, fructose, xylose, glutamate, succinate, malate, glycine, lactate, acetate, pyruvate, citrate, formate and cis-aconitate on the oxidation of thiosulfate and the availability of these compounds as the substrate for the respiration by Thiobacillus ocncretivorus, which is known to be an obligated autotroph, were studied. Malate nad glycine at 0.5 per cent concentration nearly doubled the thiosulfate oxidation compared to the control. No other organic substances enhanced the thiosulfate oxidation compared to the control. No other organic substances enhanced the thiosulfate oxidation. Moreover, some 30 to 40 per cent decrease was recorded by fructose, sulfate-salts medium, some 30 to 40 per cent decrease was recorded by fructose, citrate, xylose, malate, flucose, glutamate and succinate. No respiration could occur when formate and pyruvate were supplied as the substrate for respiration. But it was obvious that flucose, fructose, xylose, glutamate, malate, citrate and succinate could be used as the substrate for respiration to some extent, regarding the fact that some increase in respiration rates could be recorded compared to the result from the salts medium, where neither thiosulfate nor orgnic compounds were added. Thus, it was postulated that this organism could possibly be converted into mixotroph or hetrotroph if appropriate conditions could be prepared.

  • In the preparation of manganese zinc ferrite powders by alcoholic dehydration of citrate/formate solution. The effect of pH change on precipitation was investigated. The pH range for obtaining stable precipitates was studied. The glassy phase was obtained when the pH value of solution is higher than 5, and the formation mechanism of glassy phase was suggested. Below pH 5, the stable precipitates were formed, and the optimal pH was 2. Formation of glassy phase was accounted for the change of surface charge by pH change. The change of surface charge is caused by the interparticular agglomeration. The precipitate was redissolved into the water on the surface of precipitate itself and through the polymerization, it agglomerated. This mechanism is tought to be similar to that of viscous flow.

황산크롬(III) 착화합물 수용액으로부터의 크롬전착 (Electrodeposition of Chromium from Chromiun(III) Sulfate Complexes in Aqueous Solutions)

  • Electrodeposition of chromium from low concentration chromjum (III) sulfate complexess in aqueous using sodium formate-glycine mixtures as a complexing agent was studied. In the bath formation, it is found that the optimum again temperature and time for equilibration of the electrolytes are nrcessary for 24 hrs at 45$^{\circ}C$and the optimum elecrical charge for low current electrolysis which might be produced Cr(II) ions in the electrolytes is necessary for minum 2Ah/$\ell$. The optmun concentration off standard electrolyte for main composition is 0.05M chromium(III) sulfate, 0.2M sodium formate-0.2M glycine, and I mMNaSCN as a catalysea, respectivwly. The standard electrolyte is shows good covering, good throwing power, and 6% of current efficiency (Cr(III)basis). The oppearance of electrodeposits shows att active bright chromium. The SEM morphology of the chromjum coating is observed as smooth surfaces and dispersed micro prcro pores. X-ray diffraction analysis shows a bcc structure which the perferred orintation of the chromium electrodeposits is strongin(200)plane.

녹차나무꽃의 향기성분 분석 (Analysis of Volatile Flavor Constituents in Green Tea Flower)

  • 국내산 녹차나무꽃의 향기성분을 기체 크로마토그래피 및 질량분석법으로 분석하였다. 시료 중 56종의 화합물이 분리확인되었으며, hydrocarbon류 22종, alcohol류 14종, aldehyde류 6종, ester류 5종, 기타 9종이었다. Heneicosyl formate와 ${\alpha}$-phenyl ethyl alcohol, acetophenone 등이 많이 포함되어 있었고, sesquiterpene 성분인 germacrene D도 확인되었다.

Ab initio 양자화학적 계산을 이용한 이온성 액체의 SO2 흡수능 연구

  • 산성비의 주요 원인인 이산화황($SO_2$)을 배기가스로부터 효과적으로 제거하기 위한 용매 중 이온성 액체(ionic liquid, IL)의 $SO_2$ 흡수능 (absorption capacity)을 양자화학적 방법을 이용하여 평가했다. 이를 위해 hydroxyl ammonium 계열의 양이온 monoethanolammonium, diethanolammonium 2종과 carboxylate 계열의 음이온 acetate, formate 2종을 조합하여 총 4종의 IL을 연구에 적용했다. $SO_2$가 IL의 pair, 양이온 또는 음이온과 complex를 형성할 때로 구분하여 계산 모델을 세웠으며, 열역학적 상태 변화와 오비탈 상호작용 분석을 통해 흡수능을 평가하였다. 계산 결과, 음이온-$SO_2$ complex를 적용했을 때 formate에 비해 acetate가 $SO_2$ 흡수에 유리할 것으로 분석되었으며, 이는 이전의 실험 연구에서 얻어진 흡수능 경향성과도 잘 맞는다.

방사선 조사에 의한 김치의 휘발성 유기화합물의 변화 특성

  • 비조사 김치와 2.5, 5 및 10 kGy로 방사선 조사된 김치로부터 SDE 방법으로 추출한 휘발성 유기화합물을 분석하여 변화를 확인하였다. 김치의 주요 휘발성 유기화합물로 ethyl formate, ethyl acetate, ethanol, dimethyl disulfide, methyl 2-propenyl disulfide가 다량 함유되어 있었고, ethyl methyl disulfide, 4-cyano-1-butene, pentane dinitrile 등도 상당량 함유되어 있었다. Ethyl formate, ethyl acetate, ethanol은 조사선량이 증가함에 따라 상당량 증가하는 것으로 확인되었으며, dimethyl disulfide, ethyl methyl disulfide, methyl propyl disulfide, pentane dinitrile, S-methyl methyl thiosulfonate 등도 선량이 증가함에 따라 함량이 증가하였다. 1-Penten-3-ol은 조사선량에 따라 감소하였다.

식도협착과 급성신부전이 합병된 개미산 중독 1례 (Esophageal Stricture and Acute Renal Failure after Formic Acid Poisoning: - A Case Report -)

  • Formic acid or formate is a common industrial compound used in the production of ensilage, disinfectants, decalcifying agents and mainly as a precursor in industrial chemical synthesis. It is also a well-known toxic metabolite produced in methanol poisoning. Thus, formate is a potential source of both accidental and deliberate poisoning. Very few reports have been published thus far, on the toxicology of direct formic acid poisoning. Here, we report a case of a 74-year-old man without a history of depression, who ingested about 30 gm of formic acid. The patient presented with profound high anion gap metabolic acidosis, acute renal failure and esophageal stricture. The patient was successfully treated with hemodialysis and supportive measures. But permanent esophageal stricture was complicated by formic acid burns in the gastrointestinal tract. We discuss the pathophysiology and treatment of this case.
