Tensile and anisotropy test were performed to evaluate the mechanical properties of coated and uncoated steel. These results were used to predict the deference of formability between two sheets. Cup-drawing test was performed to verify formability of two sheets. Also, Cup-drawing test could predict the coefficient of friction and the forming limit. Finite Element Method of cup-drawing was performed to assess the deference between two sheets considering frictional characteristics. This result was compared with the former results.
Hemi-spheroidal punch stretching test was developed to evaluate the press formability of sheet materials. In the plane strain stretching tests, our specially designed hemi-spheroidal head punch, hemi-cylindrical head punch(RIST type) and hemi-spherical head punch were used, respectively. In this experiment, the circular sheet blanks with parallel edge sides are uniformly stretched up to fracture by raising these punches to assure plane strain stretching deformation along the longitudinal direction of the specimens. The press formability was evaluated by limit punch height(LPH) and minor strain measurement around the fracture area. Compared with the hemi-spherical punch and the hemi-cylindrical one, our hemi-spheroidal punch was more useful in the experimental reproduction and reliance for press formability test.
We report on the feasibility of producing 6xxx series Al alloy sheets using a combination of twin-roll strip casting and asymmetric rolling. The Al alloy sheets produced in this study exhibited an excellent formability ($\bar{r}=1.2$, ${\Delta}r=0.17$) and mechanical properties (${\sigma}_{TS}{\sim}260MPa$, ${\varepsilon}>30%$), which cannot be feasibly obtained via the conventional technique based on ingot casting and conventional rolling. The enhanced formability as evaluated in terms of $\bar{r}$ and ${\Delta}r$ was clarified by examining the evolution of textures associated with strip casting and subsequent thermo-mechanical treatments. The evaluation of the formability leads us to conclude that the combined technique based on strip casting and asymmetric rolling is a feasible process for enhancing the formability of Al alloy sheets to a level beyond which the conventional technique can reach.
This study describes the feasibility of producing high-strength Al alloy sheet with a high solute content using a combined technique of twin-roll strip casting and asymmetric rolling. The Al sheet produced in this study exhibited excellent formability ($\overline{r}$ =1.0, $\Delta$r=0.16) and mechanical properties ($\sigma_{TS}$~305 MPa, $\epsilon$~33%), that, cannot be feasibly obtained via the conventional technique based on ingot casting and rolling. The structural origin of the observed properties, especially enhanced formability, was clarified by examining the evolution of textures associated with strip casting and subsequent thermo-mechanical treatments. Our evaluation of the mechanical properties and formability leads us to conclude that the combination of strip casting and asymmetric rolling is a feasible process for enhancing the formability of Al alloy sheets to the level beyond what the conventional techniques can reach.
Hydroforming is the technology that utilizes hydraulic pressure to form sheet and tube metals in to desired shapes inside die cavities. It can be subdivided into tube hydroforming and sheet hydroforming according to the blanks used. In this paper the simulation of tube and welded blank hydroforming is carried out respectiyely. And simulation results are compared to evaluate formability in tube and welded blank hydroforming of engine mount bracket
In order to analyze the tailorbility of different fabrics for men's suit, FAST system has been used for measuring the distribution of mechanical properties in this study. As results, cashmere mixed woolen fabrics showed the minimum degree in relaxation shrinkage, formability, and shear rigidity than any other fabrics, and also showed more than 6% as maximum level of extensibility. Thus, cashmere mixed woolen fabrics requires careful tailoring in lay-out, marking, and cutting. It is necessary to establish new tailoring criteria for automatic sewing with cashmere mixed woolen fabrics than any other fabrics, because they show more failure rate of tailorbility. There have been noticeably more variation of shrinkage and extension for woolen fabrics with cashmere mixed than 100% woolen fabrics by evaluating the formability of the suits when these are completed to suits through cutting and tailoring from fabrics. Especially nylon mixed woolen fabrics showed shrinkage overall, but polyester mixed woolen fabrics showed extension at waist area. Thus, it is necessary to adjust the appropriate overfeed rate considering the amount of shrinkage and extension while tailoring.
In the present study, AZ31B sheets has a bad formability in room temperature, but the formability is improved significantly as increasing the temperature because of rolled magnesium alloy sheet has a hexagonal closed packed structure (HCP) and a plastic anisotropy. In this paper, after tensile test in various temperatures, strain rate, show the tensile mechanical properties, yield and ultimate strength, K-value, work hardening exponent(n), strain rate sensitivity(m). As temperature increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are decreased but strain rate sensitivity(m) is increased. As cross-head-speed increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are increased. And according to the temperature, how change the plastic anisotropy factor R. In addition, we observed how temperatures and cross-head-speed effect on microstructure.
Recently the usage of galvanealed steel sheet was increased in order to protect corrosion in automobile industry. So, the alternative of steel sheet was investigated in a point of formability. Generally it was known that uncoated steel sheet has better mechanical properties than coated steel sheet. But, contrary results were sometimes occurred in workplace. This reason is the effect of friction. In this study, the formability of steel sheet considering friction characteristics was investigated with tensile test, cup drawing test and finite element method.
In recent years reduction in noise and vibration in automobile has been strongly required not only from the standpoint of environmental regulations but also for raising the commercial value and ride comfort. Vibration damping steel sheets, which are composites made by sandwitching a visco-elastic resin layer between two steel sheets, have been developed as effective noise-abating materials and have found a growth of use in automobile industries. Vibration damping steel sheets for commercial use must be excellent in vibration damping property, press formability and spot weldability, but are inferior to ordinary steel sheets. In this study, the mechanical properties of vibration damping steel are evaluated, and press formability is analysed on the basis of those properties and shear bonding strength. The development of engine oil pan using damping steel sheets are also reported, focusing on serious problems in oil pan drawing.
In the hot forging process lubricant influences on frictional condition only, but in the warm forging process it influence on the formability such as dimensional accuracy, filling state and frictional condition and it is important to estimate a lubricating characteristic of lubricants in the warm forging. In this paper, in order to evaluate the formability of billet in warm forging process according to the lubricant and lubricating method, lubricant and lubricating test have been performed using oil-based and water-based lubricant which were widely used in the hot and warm forging processes. The surface roughness of initial billet was measured to evaluate the influence on the formability of billet and the forming load and dimensional accuracy were compared and evaluated. From the experimental results, it can be known that water-based lubricants are more excellent than oil-based lubricants for warm forging of complex shape like a bevel gear. Also, in this study characteristics of deformation have been investigated according to surface treatment of initial billet.
