  • This paper proposes a structure of a variable impedance control system based on sensor-less external force estimator of industrial manipulators for cyber physical production systems (CPPS). To implement CPPS, a feedback system is constructed by using the robot operating system (ROS) and an external force estimator which is designed to measure the external force applied to the manipulator without a force sensor. Based on the robot dynamics, the robot-human cooperating system for the cyber physics production system is implemented through a controller that changes the impedance characteristics of the manipulator according to the situation using the external force estimator. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control system.

  • In this paper the modeling and control of a twin roll strip caster is investigated. Mathematical models for the strip casting process are obtained by analyzing five critical areas such that the molten steel level in the pool, solidification process, roll separating force and torque, roll dynamics including hydraulic actuators, and roll drive system. A two-level control strategy is proposed. At lower level, three local subsystems are independently feedback-controlled by suitable local controllers which perform well to the behaviors of each subsystem. They are a variable structure control of the molten steel level in the pool, an adaptive predictive control of the roll gap which is directly related to the strip thickness, and an $H^{\infty}$ control of the roll drive system. At higher level, all reference signals to the lower level subsystems are generated by an optimal controller in the perspective of regulating the strip thickness and roll separating force.   • Several types of smart materials and control scheme are available to adjust the structure actively in various external disturbances. A control scheme was introduced for a specific material. But the effectiveness of the control scheme has some limitation according to the choice of the smart materials and the response of the structure. The ER(Electrorheological) fluid is adequate for a large control force, and the PZT(lead zirconate titanate) patches are suitable for small but arbitrary control force at any point of the structure. It can be used for active control of structure by changing the dynamic characteristics of the structure. But it has some difficulty in suppressing the excited vibration in broad band. To compensate this resonance of the controlled structure, a hybrid controller was constructed using PPF(Positive position feedback) control with PZT and ER fluid control.

  • An integrated analytical model which should have essential dynamics on the longitudinal railway vehicle is developed. The model consists of translational movement, rotational movement, brake actuator, adhesion force between rail and wheel, and brake friction force between wheel and pad. Thus, during the deceleration for stopping, a feedback controller controlling the brake cylinder pressure is designed to improve ride quality and to release friction problems. Through the developed model, the feasibility of controlling the cylinder pressure is verified for the better performances during braking.

  • This paper presents a new control strategy for the position and force control of a flexible manipulator. The governing equation of motion of a two-link flexible manipulator which features a piezoceramic actuator is derived via Hamilton's principle. The control torque of the motor to command desired position and force is determined by a sliding mode controller. This controller is formulated to take account of parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. During the commanded motion, undesirable oscillation is actively suppressed by applying a feedback control voltage to the piezoceramic actuator. Consequently, an accurate compliant motion control of the flexible manipulator is achieved. Computer simulations are undertaken in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control methodology.

  • This paper proposes a new speed and tension control algorithm for multi-span continuous strip processing line. In this algorithm the speed reference of each roll is adjusted to make the output force follow the load balance reference using an outer loop controller in cascade. Using the information of the output force of the adjacent roll, it is shown that the strip tension between two rolls can be controlled as the desired value without tension sensor. An experimental set-up which consists of 4 driven and 3 measuring rolls is designed and built for the multi-span speed and tension control. The experimental result reveals conspicuous improvement of tension control performance by the proposed algorithm comparing to the conventional tension feedback controller.

  • This paper reports active control of clamped beams using acceleration feedback controllers (AF). The equations of motion of clamped beam under force and moment pairs were derived and the equations of AF controllers were formulated. The effect of the parameters - gain and damping ratio - of the AF controllers on the open loop transfer function was investigated mainly in terms of the system stability. Increasing the gain of the AF controller tuned at a mode, the magnitude of the open loop transfer function is increased at all frequencies. The increase of the damping ratio of the AF controller leads to decrease the magnitude of the open loop transfer function and modifies its phase characteristics to be more stable. Three AF controllers connected in parallel were then proposed. Each AF controller is tuned at the $2^{nd}$, $3^{rd}$ and $4^{th}$ modes, respectively. Their parameters were determined to remain the system to be stable based on the results of the parametric study. A significant reduction in vibration at the 3 modes can be obtained.

  • A disturbance rejection controller using eccentricity filtering and LQ control techniques is proposed to alleviate the effecto of major roll eccentricity in multivariable cold-rolling processes. Fundamental problems in multivariable cold-rolling processes such as process time delay inherent in exit thickness measurement and non-stationary characteristics of roll eccentricity signals can be overcome by the proposed control method. The filtered instantaneous estimate of roll eccentricity may be exploited to improve instantaneous estimate of the exit thickness variation based on roll force and roll gap measurements, and a feedforward compensator is augmented as a reference for a gaugemeter thickness estimator. LQ feedback controller is combined with eccentricity filter for the attenuation of the exit thickness variation due to the entry thickness variation. The simulation results show that the roll eccentricity disturbance is significantly eliminated and other disturbances also are attenuated.

선박 자동접안을 위한 순수 횡 이동 모델링 및 제어기 설계 (Modeling and controller design of crabbing motion for auto-berthing)

  • Crabbing motion is the pure sway motion of a ship without surge velocity. Thus, it can be applied to a berthing operation. Crabbing motion is induced by a peculiar operation method called the push-pull mode. The push-pull mode is induced by using a combination of the main propeller and side thruster. Two propellers generating the same amounts of thrust and rotating in opposite directions produce some yawing moment on a vessel but do not induce longitudinal motion. With the additional operation of side thrusters, the push-pull mode is used to induce a large amount of lateral force. In this paper, three-degree-of-freedom equations of motion such as for the surge, sway, and yaw are constructed for the crabbing motion. Based on these equations of motion, a feedback linearization control method is applied to auto-berthing control for a twin-screw ship with side thrusters. The controller can deal with the nonlinearity of a system, which is present in the berthing maneuver of a twin screw ship. A simulation of the auto-berthing of a ship is performed to validate the performance of the designed controller.
