Analysis of a Chip Mounting System for Force and Impact Control

  • This paper presents identification and control of a surface mounting system. The mount head of the system is modeled to analyze its dynamic characteristics, which is critical to the placement performance of the mounter. Based on this model, an identification work is carried out to estimate the modeled parameters by using genetic algorithm (GA), which plays a role of minimizing an error between the actual response and the model response. Having obtained the identified parameters, we design a disturbance observer control to compensate the friction. The disturbance observer can estimate the friction force and the uncertainty of the system. From the experimental results, it is found that the proposed disturbance observer plus PID controller show a better performance than PID controller alone.   • As the offshore oil fields are moved to the deep ocean, the oil production system of FPSO(Floating Production Storage and Offloading System) Type are constructed frequently these days. So, it is very important to estimate the drift motion and damping effects due to the drift motion simultaneously. The components of slow drift motion damping consist of viscous, wave radiation effect and wave drift damping. It is needed to estimate the wave drift damping more accurately than others. The wave drift damping signifies the time-rate of mean wave drift force on oscillating ship or ocean structure which constant speed. In order to calculate this, the 3-Dimensional panel method is employed with the translating and pulsating Green function in the frequency domain. The calculation is carried out for a Series 60 ($C_B$/=0.7) and the results are compared with other numerical ones.

  • Free running model tests gives us only maneuvering indices not hydrodynamic derivatives. For this reason, system identification method has been applied to the measured data to identify mathematical model describing hydrodynamic force. However It is difficult to obtain complete set of maneuvering derivatives because of strong correlation of sway velocity and yaw rate. Therefore, in this paper, we assumed that sway velocity related coefficients would be obtained by oblique towing test. and then proposed new procedure to estimate yaw related coefficients. To do this, correlation and regression analyses were carried out to establish modified model and estimate maneuvering derivatives. Also D-optimal rudder input scenario was found based on the modified model and confirmed the validity of its sufficient richness as a input scenario.

  • Proper door effort is required for the safety of passenger and pedestrian while securing door operating convenience. 3D finite element analyses for a hybrid door checker were carried out to estimate door checker arm resistance force. And, from the estimated door checker arm resistance force and theoretically calculated self-closing force, door effort was predicted. The analysis results at checker arm peaks showed excellent correlation with the test results. Also, in order to reduce solving time, a modified model with simple spring element was investigated. Finally an equation to easily calculate checker arm resistance force from checker arm shape and spring constant was suggested and its usefulness in early design stage was discussed.

The Safety of Maneuverability Based on the Hydrodynamic Forces Acting on ship hull under the Lateral Berthing

  • In order to keep the safety of maneuverability under the lateral berthing, it is necessary to estimate the magnitudes and properties of the hydrodynamic forces acting on ship hull quantitatively. In this paper, CFD technique is used to calculate the steady lateral force according to the water depth for Wigley model under the unsteady lateral berthing. The numerical results are analysed into the steady lateral force and the transitional lateral force, and some of reviews for the safety of maneuverability relating to the lateral berthing are discussed based on the computed hydrodynamic forces.

  • This paper introduces a method to estimate the contact-force of the leg of a walking robot and proposes a solution to a shortcoming of the previous study. This shortcoming was the deteriorating performance when estimating the contact-force whenever the rotation of each joint was reversed. It occurred because the friction-torque of each joint was not considered. In order to solve this problem, a friction-torque model for a robot leg was developed based on repetitive experimentation and used to improve the contact-force estimation performance. We verified the performance of the proposed method experimentally.

  • The intelligent trajectory control method that controls moving direction and average velocity for a prosthetic arm is proposed by pattern recognition and force estimations using EMG signals. Also, we propose the real time trajectory planning method which generates continuous accelleration paths using 3 stage linear filters to minimize the impact to human body induced by arm motions and to reduce the muscle fatigue. We use combination of MLP and fuzzy filter for pattern recognition to estimate the direction of a muscle and Hogan's method for the force estimation. EMG signals are acquired by using a amputation simulator and 2 dimensional joystick motion. The simulation results of proposed prosthetic arm control system using the EMG signals show that the arm is effectively followed the desired trajectory depended on estimated force and direction of muscle movements.

  • Recently, floating cranes are mainly used to erect heavy blocks or cargos for constructing ships in many shipyards. It is important to estimate the dynamic motion of the heavy cargo suspended by a floating crane and the tension of the wire ropes between the floating crane and the heavy cargo. In this paper, the coupled dynamic equations of motion are set up for considering the 6 degree-of-freedom floating crane and the 6-degrees-of-freedom heavy cargo based on multibody system dynamics. Depending on the cargo weight, the motion of the floating crane would be changed to nonlinear state. The nonlinear terms in the equation of motion are considered. In addition, the nonlinear hydrostatic force, the linear hydrodynamic force, wire rope force, mooring force and gravity force are considered as the external forces. As the result of this paper, we analyze the engineering effect for erecting the heavy cargo by using the floating crane.

  • Spindle motor current is used to estimate the cutting force indirectly and control the feed rate for the cutting force regulation. The proposed algorithm is implemented to a DSP board based hardware for the industrial application. The software to make POP terminal communicate with the DSP board and POP server is coded under Windows 95 environment. Experiments under varying cutting conditions show that the DSP board recognizes the information of installed cutting tool and cutting conditions delivered from the POP server to use them for the proper control of the feed rate. The cutting force is regulated well during machining of tapered or stepped workpiece and circular shaped workpiece as well.

A Study on the Modeling of Transitional Lateral Force Acting on the Berthing Ship by CFD

  • To evaluate the unsteady motion in laterally berthing maneuver, it is necessary to estimate clearly the magnitudes and properties of hydrodynamic forces acting on ship hull in shallow water. A numerical simulation has been performed to investigate quantitatively the hydrodynamic force according to water depth for Wigley model using the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technique. By comparing the computational results with the experimental ones, the validity of the CFD method was verified. The numerical solutions successfully captured some features of transient flow around the berthing ship. The transitional lateral force in a state ranging from the rest to the uniform motion is modeled by using the concept of circulation.
