  • The shell part is made of 2-layered blank because of functional requirements. To investigate the draw formability in this kind of part, the 2-layered sheet metal forming analysis process should be stipulated. First of all, treatment of contact with each blank must be considered to prevent the penetration on the each blank. Subsequently, applying the draw bead force is considered carefully because application of drawbead force for analysis is different with equivalent drawbead force. Formability as like crack, neck and wrinkles is estimated by FLD(Forming Limit Diagram) and thinning. A feasibility of the 2-layered sheet metal forming analysis process study is verified compare 2-layered sheet metal forming analysis with experimental results.

  • A cutting force model predicting the dynamic force induced by the axial vibration of it plate in face milling is introduced. When a plate face is milled, deformation in tool axial direction is considerable. Therefore, cutting forces are affected by not only inner-outer modulation in feed direction but also by axial deformation. A PTP (peak-to-peak) diagram made by the simulated dynamic force model is evaluated. The stability of the face milling process such as the chatter outset, and the stable cutting region can be simply estimated. Simulation results are compared with that of experiment.

  • In this paper, a fracture mechanics evaluation system which can be used to assess the leak-before-break (LBB) of nuclear piping is developed. Existing solutions for calculating the fracture mechanics parameters (J-integral and crack opening displacement) required for LBB evaluation were firstly presented. Then a module for calculating J-integral and COD was developed, with an additional module for predicting the critical load based on the crack driving force diagram to finally develop a fracture mechanics evaluation system. To confirm the validity of the proposed evaluation system, finite element (FE) analysis was performed, and the FE J-integral and COD results were compared with prediction results using the J-integral and COD estimations program. Furthermore, the critical load assessment module was verified by comparing the actual pipe test results (Battelle test data) with prediction results using the proposed program.

  • This study describes a system that monitors the tool and cutting state of automatic beveling operation in real time. As a signal for cutting state monitoring, a motor current detected from the spindle drive system of the automatic beveling machine is used to monitor abnormal state. Because automatic beveling is processed using a face milling cutter, the cutting force mechanism is the same as the milling process. The predicted cutting torque is obtained using a cutting force model based on specific cutting resistance. Then, the predicted cutting torque is converted into the spindle motor current value, and cutting state stability is diagnosed by comparing it with the motor current value detected during beveling operation. The experimental results show that the spindle motor current can detect abnormal cutting state such as overload and tool wear during beveling operation, and can diagnose the cutting stability using the proposed equip-current line diagram.

  • Force balance method is employed to predict forging information such as forging load, tool pressure and normal stress at the surface of tangential velocity discontinuity. The incipient stages of deformation for the plane strain forging of rectangular billets in V-shaped dies of different semi-angles are analysed. To construct an approximate model for the analysis of deformation by the force balance method in the incipient deformation stages, slip-line field is used. When the deformation mode by slip-line method is the same as that by force balance method, the slip-line method and the force balance method give identical solutions. The effects of die angle, coefficient of friction, billet geometries and deforma- tion characteristics are also investigated. In order to verify the validity of force balance analysis, the rigid-plastic finite element simulation for the various forgig parameters are performed and performed and find to be in good agreement.

  • Processing of thin films by chemical vapor deposition(CVD) is accompanied by chemical reactions, in which the rigorous kinetic analysis is difficult to achieve. In these conditions, thermodynamic calculation leads to better understanding of the CVD process and helps to optimise the experimental parameters to obtain a desired product. A CVD phase diagram has been used as guide lines for the process. By determining the effect of each process variable on the driving force for deposition, the thermodynamic limit of the substrate temperature for a diamond deposition is calculated in the C-H system by assuming that the limit is defined by the CVD diamond phase diagram. The addition of iso-supersaturation ratio lines to the CVD phase diagram in the Si-Cl-H system provides additional information about the effects of CVD porcess variables.

  • This paper presents nonlinear vibration characteristics of a vertical passive zero stiffness isolator. The passive isolator can achieve zero stiffness through buckling of notched flexure caused by a compressive force. First, a simulation model of the isolator was built based on elastic beam theory. As increasing the compression force, time and frequency responses of the isolator were simulated. In addition, further nonlinear vibration characteristics were investigated through a bifurcation diagram and a Poincare's map, which shows that even chaostic vibration could happen. The simulations show that as the compressive force increases, the stiffness goes close to zero and the nonlinear characteristic becomes stronger to have a great effect on the isolation performance.

  • Description of the behavior of the R.C structural members fixed on massive concrete is not normally generalization of recognized configuration for regular R.C. design guidanes. This can be due to the complexity of evaluation of internal resistancy and deflection changes of the members subjected to the various external forces. On the base of axially loaded member fixed on footing, however, the estimation of deflection changes due to flexural force shear force and rotational force is to be carried out in ways of specifying the bond characteristics of axial bars embedded in massive concrete. This work is to quantify adhesion of steel-concrete, initial concrete cracking stress near bar rib, maximum bond stress and residual stress in concrete respectively. In addition to quantification of them for particulate behavior, the suggestions of multi-linear bond stress-slip diagram made in carrying out finite element analyses for adhesion failure, examining concrete cracking status and reviewing existing experimental data lead to alternatively constructed relationship between bond stress and slip for a axial bars embedded massive concrete.

  • Finite element analysis was performed to analyze structural safety of a new heavy-duty direct injection diesel engine. A half section of the in-line 6-cylinder engine was selected as a computational domain. A mapping method was used to project heat transfer coefficients from CFD results of engine coolant flow onto the FE model. The accurate setting of thermal boundary condition on the FE model was expected to result in improved prediction of temperature, cylinder bore distortion, and stresses. Characteristics of high cycle fatigue were investigated by assuming the engine was operated under the following five loading conditions repeatedly; assembly force, assembly force with thermal loading, alternating maximum gas pressure loading at each cylinder combined with assembly force and thermal loading. Distribution of fatigue safety factor was calculated by using it Haigh diagram in which the maximum and the minimum stresses were selected from the five loading cases.

  • Local damage may cause sequential collapse of structure, which is called progressive collapse. Current progressive collapse analysis is based on the mean value of design variables. This deterministic approach has a low reliability as it doesn't consider uncertainty of variables. In this study the sensitivity of design variables for progressive collapse of structure is evaluated by Monte Calro simulation and Tornado diagram. The analysis results show that the behaviour of model structures is highly sensitive to variation of the yield force of beams and the structural damping ratio.
