A survey was conducted to investigate the relationship between knowledge of perceived food safety and actual food purchase practices among parents of children under the age of seven (N=309) in 2005. The seventeen following perceived food safety items were included in the survey (bovine spongiform encephalopathy, foot and mouth disease, pathogenic avian influenza, swine fever, allergens, GMO, irradiated food, food poisoning bacteria, endocrine disrupter, antibiotics, food additives, carcinogen, natural toxin, agrichemical residues, place of origin, cultivation methods, and heavy metal) Most parents were highly concerned about investigating all food safety topics. Up to 90.0% of the participants recognized the importance of food safety. The public concern has caused a considerable decline in the demand for food afterreceiving news about food safety through mass media, Also, the majority of subjects required correct food safety information.

(Foot-and-Mouth Disease : Soures of Outbreaks and Hazard Categorization of Modes of Virus Transmission, December. 1994, USDA : APHIS : VS, Centers for Epidemiology and Animal Health)를 소개함으로써 구제역바이러스의 국내 유입방지 대책을 위한 기초자료로 제시하고자 한다.
The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics oi gait patterns and to find the effects of the gait function on the P.N.F. pelvic pattern. Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of operative treatment using porous hydroxyapatite for intraarticular calcaneal fracture of joint depression type. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients with intraarticular calcaneal fracture were followed up for more than 1 year. The period to union was calculated to evaluate the osteoconductivity of porous hydroxyapatite used as bone graft substitute. The measurement of Bohler angle, Gissane angle and the degree of articular surface depression was performed through preoperative and postoperative radiographs. The clinical evaluation was performed according to hindfoot score of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and scale of the Creighton-Nebraska health foundation (CNHF). Results: Bohler angle and Gissane angle had improved significantly from preoperative average $10.4^{\circ}$, $117.8^{\circ}$ to average $22.6^{\circ}$, $113.5^{\circ}$ immediate postoperatively, and had maintained to average $21.2^{\circ}$ and $114.4^{\circ}$ at the last follow-up. The degree of articular surface depression had improved significantly from preoperative average 4.8 mm to 1.5 mm at the last follow-up. All cases achieved bone union, and the interval to union was average 12.8 weeks. AOFAS score was average 85.2 points at last follow-up. There were 7 excellent, 10 good, and 3 fair results according to the CNHF scale. Therefore, 17 cases (85%) achieved satisfactory results. Conclusion: Plate fixation using porous hydroxyapatite seems to be one of effective treatment methods for intraarticular calcaneal fracture of joint depression type, because of supporting the reduction of subtalar articulation by augmenting bony defect and facilitating bone formation. Further evaluation about long-term radiological changes and histological analysis on hydroxyapatite implantation site should be required.
Background: Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) rely on their upper limbs for body-lifting activity (BLA). While studies have examined the electromyography (EMG) and kinematics of the shoulder joints during BLA, no studies have considered foot position during BLA. Objects: This study compared the effects of different foot positions during BLA on the shoulder muscle activities, peak plantar pressure, knee flexion angle, and rating perceived exertion in individuals with SCI. Methods: The study enrolled 13 mens with motor-complete paraplegic SCI, ASIA (American Spinal Injury Association) A or B. All subjects performed BLA with the feet positioned on the wheelchair footrest and on the floor independently. Surface EMG was used to collect data from the latissimus dorsi, pectoralis major, serratus anterior, and triceps brachii. The peak plantar pressure was measured using pedar-X and the knee flexion angle with Image J. Borg's rating perceived exertion scale was used to measure the physical activity intensity level. The paired t-test was used to compare the shoulder muscle activities, peak plantar pressure, knee flexion angle, and rating perceived exertion between the two feet positions during BLA. Results: The activity of the latissimus dorsi, pectoralis major, serratus anterior, and triceps brachii and rating perceived exertion decreased significantly and the peak plantar pressure and knee flexion angle increased significantly when performing BLA with the feet positioned on the wheelchair footrest compared with on the floor (p<.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that individuals with SCI may perform BLA with the feet positioned on the wheelchair footrest for weight-relief lifting to decrease the shoulder muscle activities and the rating perceived exertion and to increase the peak plantar pressure and the knee flexion angle.
Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of operative treatment using mini-open sinus tarsi approach for displaced intraarticular calcaneal fractures. Materials and Methods: We studied 18 cases (16 patients) of intraarticular calcaneal fractures who were treated with sinus tarsi approach by same surgeon. The mean age of patients was 44.8 years, and mean follow-up period was 17.2 months. The measurement of B$\ddot{o}$hler angle, Gissane angle, the degree of articular surface depression, and the period to union were performed through preoperative and postoperative radiographs. The clinical evaluation was performed according to hindfoot score of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and scale of the Creighton-Nebraska health foundation (CNHF). Results: B$\ddot{o}$hler angle and Gissane angle had improved significantly from preoperative average $9.8^{\circ}$, $117.6^{\circ}$to average $22.4^{\circ}$, $113.4^{\circ}$ immediate postoperatively, and had maintained to average $21.8^{\circ}$and $114.2^{\circ}$ at the last follow-up. The degree of articular surface depression had improved significantly from preoperative average 5.2 mm to 1.2 mm at the last follow-up. All cases achieved bone union, and the period to union was average 10.5 weeks. AOFAS score was average 86.2 points at the last follow-up. There were 7 excellent, 9 good, and 2 fair results according to the CNHF scale. Therefore, 16 cases (88.8%) achieved satisfactory results. Conclusion: The minimally invasive sinus tarsi approach using headless compression screw seems to be an effective surgical method for displaced intraarticular calcaneal fractures, because of the possibility of accurate restoration of articular surface and the low risk of postoperative soft tissue complications.

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate whether the co-injection of antioxidants together with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccination has the potential to attenuate the negative effects caused by vaccination in Holstein finishing steers. Methods: A total of 36 finishing Holstein steers (body weight [BW]: $608{\pm}45.6kg$, 17 months old) were randomly allocated to one of three treatments: i) control (CON, only FMD vaccination without any co-injection), ii) co-injection of commercial non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) with FMD vaccination at a ratio of 10:1 (NSAID vol/FMD vaccine vol) as a positive control (PCON), iii) co-injection of commercial mixture of vitamin E and selenium with FMD vaccination (VITESEL) (1 mL of FMD vaccine+1 mL of antioxidants per 90 kg of BW). Changes in growth performance and blood parameters because of treatments were determined. Results: No significant difference in BW, average daily gain, and dry matter intake of the steers was observed among the treatments. The FMD vaccination significantly increased white blood cells (WBC), neutrophils, platelets, and mean platelet volume (p<0.01) in blood analysis. The count of lymphocyte tended to increase after vaccination (p = 0.08). In blood analysis, steers in VITESEL tended to have higher numbers of WBC, neutrophils, and platelets compared to that of other treatments (p = 0.09, 0.06, and 0.09, respectively). Eosinophils in VITESEL were higher than those in PCON (p<0.01). Among blood metabolites, blood urea nitrogen and aspartate transaminase were significantly increased, but cholesterol, alanine transferase, inorganic phosphorus, Mg, and albumin were decreased after FMD vaccination (p<0.01). Conclusion: The use of antioxidants in FMD vaccination did not attenuate growth disturbance because of FMD vaccination. The metabolic changes induced by vaccination were not controlled by the administration of antioxidants. The protective function of antioxidants was effective mainly on the cell counts of leukocytes.
