  • We analyzed the variation of the focus error signal with the effect of land and groove, wavefront error, and optical system parameter variation for the knife-edge and astigmatism methods on the Land/Groove recordable optical disc, using a numerical simulation method. We verified causes of the zero-cross-shift that took place by the effect of land and groove by analyzing the diffraction beam including defocus wavefront errors. We also found that the sensitivty of the focus error signal was reduced by the effect of land and groove in the astigmatism method, as in the analysis of the focus error signal with the each order of the diffraction beam.

  • Nondestructive evaluation(NDE) of ceramic matrix composites is essential for developing reliable ceramics for industrial applications. In the work, C-Scan image analysis has been used to characterize surface crack of SiC ceramics nondestructively. The possibility of detection of surface crack were carried out experimentally by two types of ultrasonic equipment of SDS-win and $\mu$-SDS, and three types of transducer of 25, 50 and 125 MHz. A surface micro-crack of ceramics was not detected by transducer of 25 MHz and 50 MHz. Though the focus method was detected dimly the crack by transducer of 125 MHz, the defocus method could detect the shape of diamond indenter. As a whole, the focus method and the defocus method came to the conclusion that micro crack have a good possibility for detection.

  • In this paper, depth of foreground is analysed by focus and color analysis grouping for 2D/3D video conversion and depth of foreground progressing method is preposed by using focus and motion information. Candidate foreground image is generated by estimated movement of image focus information for extracting foreground from 2D video. Area of foreground is extracted by filling progress using color analysis on hole area of inner object existing candidate foreground image. Depth information is generated by analysing value of focus existing on actual frame for allocating depth at generated foreground area. Depth information is allocated by weighting motion information. Results of previous proposed algorithm is compared with proposed method from this paper for evaluating the quality of generated depth information.

  • A hybrid focus method with multiple laser slits has been newly proposed and it is based on the integration of DFD and DFF Rough depth information is estimated using DFD equipped with multiple laser slits, and then DFF is applied to only each specific depth range using the depth information resulting from DFD. The proposed hybrid method gives more accurate results than DFD and DFF, and faster measurement than DFF. Its performance has been verified through experiments of calibration blocks with sharp depth discontinuity.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient detph map creation method using Graph Cut and Discrete Wavelet Transform. First, we have segmented the original image by using Graph Cut to process with its each areas. After that, the information which describes segmented areas of original image have been created by proposed labeling method for segmented areas. And then, we have created four subbands which contain the original image's frequency information. Finally, the depth map have been created by frequency map which made with HH, HL subbands and depth information calculation along the each segmented areas. The proposed method can perform efficient depth map creation process because of dynamic allocation using depth information. We also have tested the proposed method using PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) method to evaluate ours.

  • To enhance the resolution and the depth of focus of the patterns whose size reaches the optical resolution limits, the various imaging methods are being tried. Generally in the linear polarization illumination methods, the contrast gap exists between TE mode TM mode according to the pattern direction. However, through the previous research, the elliptical polarization illumination(EPI) method was proposed to overcome this contrast gap. In this research, we investigated the optimal polarization condition to be able to enhance the depth of focus(DOF) for the optional mask which is containing the opposite direction patterns by applying the various polarization conditions including EPI. The DOF according to each polarization condition was obtained by ED-Tree(Exposure-Defocus Tree) for the given exposure dose and CD error boundaries. As the result, we can ascertain th effect of EPI for the enhancement of DOF in some condition of optical system.

  • Blur variation caused by camera de-focusing provides a proper cue for depth estimation. Depth from Defocus (DFD) technique calculates the blur amount present in an image considering that blur amount is directly related to scene depth. Conventional DFD methods use two defocused images that might yield the low quality of an estimated depth map as well as a reconstructed infocused image. To solve this, a new DFD methodology based on infocused and defocused images is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, the outcome of Subbaro's DFD is combined with a novel edge blur estimation method so that improved blur estimation can be achieved. In addition, a saliency map mitigates the ill-posed problem of blur estimation in the region with low intensity variation. For validating the feasibility of the proposed method, twenty image sets of infocused and defocused images with 2K FHD resolution were acquired from a camera with a focus control in the experiments. 3D stereoscopic image generated by an estimated depth map and an input infocused image could deliver the satisfactory 3D perception in terms of spatial depth perception of scene objects.

  • One of the ways to measure the distance in the computer vision is to use the focus and defocus. There are two methods in this way. The first method is caculating the distance from the focused images in a point (MMDFP: the method measuring the distance to the focal plane). The second method is to measure the distance from the difference of the camera parameters, in other words, the apertures of the focal planes, of two images with having the different parameters (MMDCI: the method to measure the distance by comparing two images). The problem of the existing methods in MMDFP is to decide the thresholding vaue on detecting the most optimally focused object in the defocused image. In this case, it could be solved by comparing only the error energy in 3x3 window between two images. In MMDCI, the difficulty is the influence of the deflection effect. Therefor, to minimize its influence, we utilize two differently focused images instead of different aperture images in this paper. At the first, the amount of defocusing between two images is measured through the introduction of regularization and then the distance from the camera to the objects is caculated by the new equation measuring the distance. In the results of simulation, we see the fact to be able to measure the distance from two differently defocused images, and for our approach to be robuster than the method using the different aperture in the noisy image.
