Objective : To obtain more reliable sample in stereotactic biopsy, authors adopted proton chemical shift imaging ($^1H$-CSI)-directed biopsy. Until now, proton single voxel spectroscopy($^1H$-SVS) technique has been reported as a technique using metabolic information in stereotactic biopsy. The authors performed $^1H$-CSI with a stereotactic headframe in place and evaluated the pathologic results obtained from local metabolic information through $^1H$-CSI. Methods : $^1H$ CSI-directed stereotactic biopsy was performed in four patients. $^1H$-CSI and conventional Gd-enhancement stereotactic MRI was done simultaneously after application of the stereotatic frame. After reconstruction of metabolic maps of NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr, and Lactate/Cr ratios, the focal areas of increased Cho/Cr ratios and decreased NAA/Cr ratios were selected for target sites in the MR images Results : There was no difficulty in performing $^1H$-CSI with the stereotactic headframe in place. In pathologic examinations, the samples taken in area of increased Cho/Cr ratios and decreased NAA/Cr ratios showed the features of increased cellularity, mitoses and cellular atypism, thus facilitated the diagnosis. The pathologic samples taken from the area of increased Lactate/Cr ratios showed prominent feature of necrosis. Conclusion : $^1H$-CSI was feasible with stereotactic head frame in place. The final pathologic results obtained in our samples were concordant with the local metabolic informations from $^1H$-CSI. Authors believe that $^1H$ CSI-directed stereotactic biopsy may provide us advantages in obtaining more reliable tissue specimen in stereotactic biopsy.
Background: To study the relationship between mammographic findings and clinical/pathologic features in women with 1-15mm sized invasive breast cancer. Materials and Methods: We investigated a consecutive series of 134 cases diagnosed in Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital in 2007. Mammographic findings were classified into five groups as follows :1) stellate mass without calcification; 2) non-stellate mass without calcification; 3) intermediate suspicious calcification with or without associated mass; 4) higher probability malignant calcification with or without associated mass; 5) focal asymmetry/distortion without associated calcification. Associations between mammographic and clinical/pathological features (menopause status/family history/histologic grade/lymph node status and ER/PR/HER2 status) was analyzed through logistic regression and chi square tests. Results: Compared to the stellate mass without calcification group, higher probability malignant calcification patients were associated significantly with a positive lymph node status, always presenting in patients who were non-menopausal and with a family history of carcinoma. Conclusions: Higher probability malignant calcifications with or without associated tumor masses are associated with clinical/pathologic features of poor prognosis.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze the series of panoramic radiograph of implant patients using the system to measure peri-implant crestal bone loss according to the elapsed time from fixture installation time to more than three years. Methods: Choose 10 patients having 45 implant fixtures installed, which have series of panoramic radiograph in the period to be analyzed by the system. Then, calculated the crestal bone depth and statistics and selected the implant in concerned by clicking the implant of image shown on the monitor by the implemented pattern recognition system. Then, the system recognized the x, y coordination of the implant and peri-implant alveolar crest, and calculated the distance between the approximated line of implant fixture and alveolar crest. By applying pattern recognition to periodic panoramic radiographs, we attained the results and made a comparison with the results of preceded articles concerning peri-implant marginal bone loss. Analyzing peri-implant crestal bone loss in a regression analysis periodic filmed panoramic radiograph, logarithmic approximation had highest $R^2$ value, and the equation is as shown below. $y=0.245Logx{\pm}0.42$, $R^2=0.53$, unit: month (x), mm (y) Results: Panoramic radiograph is a more wide-scoped view compared with the periapical radiograph in the same resolution. Therefore, there was not enough information in the radiograph in local area. Anterior portion of many radiographs was out of the focal trough and blurred precluding the accurate recognition by the system, and many implants were overlapped with the adjacent structures, in which the alveolar crest was impossible to find. Conclusion: Considering the earlier objective and error, we expect better results from an analysis of periapical radiograph than panoramic radiograph. Implementing additional function, we expect high extensibility of pattern recognition system as a diagnostic tool to evaluate implant-bone integration, calculate length from fixture to inferior alveolar nerve, and from fixture to base of the maxillary sinus.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the mandibular retractive force on the mandibular condyle of growing dog. The experimental animals were six mongrel dogs of two-month old. Their deciduous dentition were completed. Two of them was used as control group, and experimental group was composed of remaining four. Head band and chin cup were made of cotton tape, and hooks are fabricated on the chin cup and had band for closed coil. Mandibular retractive force was 100g/side and chin cap appliance was used for 14 hours/day during night. Experimental group were sacrificed at 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks from beginning of the experiment. Right TMJ was prepared for histologic study and left TMJ was examined grossly for disc, fossa, and condyle. The conclusions are: 1. Two-month old control animal showed active cartilaginous growth on the mandibular condyle, therefore showed thick proliferative and hypertrophic zones. Remodeling process in the condyle head was observed in which there were bone resorption on the anterior surface and bone apposition on the posterior surface. 2. Four-month old control animal showed marked reduction of hypertrophic zone but the condylar bone remodeling was more pronounced. 3. In experimental group, there are marked reduction of hypertrophic zone at 4 weeks from beginning of experiment, and hypertrophic zone disappeared at posterior-superior portion of condyle in 6-week experimental animal. 8 week experimental animal showed slight recovery of hypertrophic zone. 4. In experimental group, bone deposition was increased at anterior surface of condyle, and bone resorption was increased at posterior surface of condyle. 5. In control group, the glenoid fossa and surrounding bone showed mainly bone apposition. But experimental group showed bone resorption at anterior surface of articular eminence and increased bone apposition at posterior surface of postglenoid spine. 6. No marked traumatic change was seen but 4 weeks and 8 weeks experimental animal showed flattening of posterior surperior condylar surface. Bone marrow of condyle showed minute focal bleeding in 2 weeks and 4 weeks experimental animal, and congestion and depression of hematopoietic bone marrow during all experimental period.
King of Jujeong(周定王) named Jusuk(朱橚) was thought to be an exemplary character as a scholar and a politician, who was not an Oriental medical doctor but a compiler publishing a set of three medical books and a set of volumes on famine relief to save people in the areas of natural disasters or spring poverty. He was born on July 1, 1361 as the fifth son of Juwonjang(朱元璋), the first Emperor (1368-1398) of the Myeong-dynasty (1368-1644) of China. It was not clearly known about his mother other than assuming, but hard to ascertain, that she was from Goryeo, the ancient country in the Korean Peninsula, and became a loyal concubine of Juwonjang(朱元璋). He was the brother of Yeongrakje(永樂帝), the third Emperor(1402-1424) of the Myeong-dynasty. As a focal figure in the political forces at that time in the Myeong-dynasty, he had a life full of vicissitudes such as being removed from office, being exiled to a remote place, being scattered far and wide between family members, being implicated in the rebellion and so on. It seemed that he brushed up on his study, taking a class on an emir until the year of 1380 at the age of twenty. And he published "Bosaeng-yeorok(保生餘錄)" and "Bojebang(普濟方)" for eight years from 1381 to 1389 (at age 21-29), "Sujinbang(袖珍方)" in 1391 (at 31), and "Guhwangboncho(救荒本草)" in 1406 (at 46), republishing "Sujinbang(袖珍方)" in 1415 (at 65). Endowed with a brilliant talent from early days, Yeong-rakje(永樂帝) wrote the poem(the poem paying a high tribute to a King) well and composed one hundred pieces of poetry on the story of the Won Dynasty (1271-1368) of China. He leaded a quiet life in his later years and died a natural death at Gaebong(開封, a city in China) at 65 in 1425. He had 15 sons including king of Juheon(朱憲王) Yudon(有敦) and 11 daughters. His books contributed absolutely to the growth of Oriental medical field, and also to the increase in population, having influence on bringing about compilation of the books on Oriental medicine and famine relief of the Joseon Dynasty (the old Korean kingdom from AD 1392 to 1910).
The primary reason for the uprising interest and research concerning constitutional medicine is due to a shift in paradigm; from one that treats based on symptoms to one that emphasizes unique personal traits such as living conditions and psychological factors. Of the Cheoninseongmyeong(天人性命), the components of Seongmyeong(性命) theory on constitutilnal medicine, this study discusses how the Hyegak(慧覺) of Juchaek(籌策), Gyeongryun(經綸), Haenggeom(行檢) and Doryang(度量), the 4 components of Sung(性), and the Ja-eop(資業) of Sikgyeon(識見), Wiui(威儀), Jaegan(材幹) and Bang-yak(方略), the 4 components of Myeong(命) are assigned to each of the 4 different constitutional types. Ultimate Hyegak[絶世之慧覺] and Goodman's Ja-eop[大人之資業] can change according to the individual's will to overcome one's shortcomings despite the correlations made between Hyegak(慧覺) and Ja-eop(資業) of the 4 elements of given Seongmyeong(性命) and the 4 constitutions. The focal point in the discussion of Dongmu's Jihaeng theory is that any flaws one might have ought to be overcome by following in the footsteps of others who are better and any gifts ought to be shared with those who don't have the privilege to enjoy it. Thus, from the fact that Dongmu's Jihaeng theory is not one that confines one to a certain body type but is meant to be the basis for realizing which paths, or Seongmyeong(性命), ought to be taken, we can learn how to overcome disadvantages due to body constitution. Furthermore, Dongmu's Suyang(修養) theory is significant and valuable in that it can not only be utilized to bring personal welfare and longevity but also to achieve a healthy and moral society.

Quantum wells infrared photodetectors (QWIPs) have been used to detect infrared radiations through the principle based on the localized stated in quantum wells (QWs) [1]. The mature III-V compound semiconductor technology used to fabricate these devices results in much lower costs, larger array sizes, higher pixel operability, and better uniformity than those achievable with competing technologies such as HgCdTe. Especially, GaAs/AlGaAs QWIPs have been extensively used for large focal plane arrays (FPAs) of infrared imaging system. However, the research efforts for increasing sensitivity and operating temperature of the QWIPs still have pursued. The modification of heterostructures [2] and the various fabrications for preventing polarization selection rule [3] were suggested. In order to enhance optical performances of the QWIPs, double barrier quantum well (DBQW) structures will be introduced as the absorption layers for the suggested QWIPs. The DBWQ structure is an adequate solution for photodetectors working in the mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) region and broadens the responsivity spectrum [4]. In this study, InGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs double barrier quantum well infrared photodetectors (DB-QWIPs) are successfully fabricated and characterized. The heterostructures of the InGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs DB-QWIPs are grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system. Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy is used to examine the heterostructures of the InGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs DB-QWIP. The mesa-type DB-QWIPs (Area : $2mm{\times}2mm$) are fabricated by conventional optical lithography and wet etching process and Ni/Ge/Au ohmic contacts were evaporated onto the top and bottom layers. The dark current are measured at different temperatures and the temperature and applied bias dependence of the intersubband photocurrents are studied by using Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) system equipped with cryostat. The photovoltaic behavior of the DB-QWIPs can be observed up to 120 K due to the generated built-in electric field caused from the asymmetric heterostructures of the DB-QWIPs. The fabricated DB-QWIPs exhibit spectral photoresponses at wavelengths range from 3 to $7{\mu}m$. Grating structure formed on the window surface of the DB-QWIP will induce the enhancement of optical responses.

The material with superior biocompatibility and physical-chemical stability is required to fabricate high sensitive biosensors. Many kinds of biomaterials have been evaluated to apply for bioindustry. Recently, carbon based diamond and graphene thin films have been focal pointed as bio applications and their possibility is partially evaluated. Diamond thin film has many advantages for electrochemical and biological applications, such as wide potential window (3.0~3.5V), low background current and chemical-physical stability. And graphene film has many advantages as biomaterial, chemical-physical stability and conductivity. In this work, we have cultured human nerve cell (SH-SY5Y) on the nanocrystalline diamond, mirocrystalline diamond, graphene film and cell culture dish. We use MTT assay to evaluate the characteristics of cell culture on the substrates. As a result, nerve cell is well cultured on the carbon based diamond and graphene films as similar as cell culture dish. We expect that carbon materials have been applied for bioindustry such as biosensors.
Generally, it is known that the spleen accompanied by liver cirrhosis is hypertrophied or enlarged. We examined the wave pattern of the spleen by using abdominal CT images of a patient with liver cirrhosis, and found that they are different from those of a person with a normal liver In the abdominal CT image of the patient with liver cirrhosis, there is a deep wave part on the left side of the spleen. In the case of the normal liver, there are waves on the left side, but they aren't deep. Therefore, the total area of waving parts of the spleen with liver cirrhosis is found to be greater than that of the spleen with the normal liver. Moreover, when examining circularity by abstracting the waves of the spleen from the image iO liver cirrhosis, we found they are more circular than those of the spleen accompanied by a normal liver. This paper suggests an automatic method to diagnose splenic enlargement by using the wave pattern of the spleen in abdominal CT images on the basis of the two principles. It tells us that we can judge if the abdomen has a focal splenic enlargement automatically, without the manual test of the size of spleen, only with the shape of spleen.

In this work, the method of acquiring the pupil function of optical system is proposed. The wavefront aberration and the intensity distribution of pupil can be analysed with the pupil function. This system can be adopted to the manufacturing line of optical pickup directly and also has good performance to analysing various property of optical instrument. It is one kind of inverse problem to get pupil functions by 3D beam data. The extended Nijboer-Zernike(ENZ) approach recently proposed by Netherlands research group is adopted to accompany to solve these inverse problem. The ENZ approach is one of a aberration retrieval method for which numerous approaches are available. But this approach is new in the sense that it use the highly efficient representation of pupil functions by means of their Zernike coefficients. These coefficients are estimated by using matching procedure in the focal region the theoretical 3D intensity distribution and measured 3D intensity distribution. The algorithm that can be applied more general circumstance such as high-numerical aperture instrument is developed by modifying original ENZ approach. By these scheme, MS windows based GUI program is developed and the good performance is verified with generated 3D beam data.
