갑상선 반쪽 무형성증 1례 (A Case of Thyroid Hemiagenesis)

  • 갑상선 반쪽 무형성증은 갑상선의 한쪽 엽이 형성되지 않는 드문 선천성 갑상선 질환이다. 갑상선 반쪽 무형성증 자체는 대개 아무런 임상 증상을 초래하지 않으므로 대부분은 동반된 갑상선 질환을 진단하는 과정이나 수술 중에 우연히 발견된다. 저자들은 선천성 갑상선기능저하증이 의심되어 내원한 1개월된 영아에서 원인을 찾던 중에 갑상선 초음파 및 스캔 검사를 통해 갑상선 반쪽 무형성증을 진단하였기에 보고하는 바이다.

Low-Level Expression of CD138 Marks Naturally Arising Anergic B Cells

  • Autoreactive B cells are not entirely deleted, but some remain as immunocompetent or anergic B cells. Although the persistence of autoreactive B cells as anergic cells has been shown in transgenic mouse models with the expression of B cell receptor (BCR) reactive to engineered self-antigen, the characterization of naturally occurring anergic B cells is important to identify them and understand their contribution to immune regulation or autoimmune diseases. We report here that a low-level expression of CD138 in the splenic B cells marks naturally arising anergic B cells, not plasma cells. The CD138int B cells consisted of IgMlowIgDhigh follicular (FO) B cells and transitional 3 B cells in homeostatic conditions. The CD138int FO B cells showed an anergic gene expression profile shared with that of monoclonal anergic B cells expressing engineered BCRs and the gene expression profile was different from those of plasma cells, age-associated B cells, or germinal center B cells. The anergic state of the CD138int FO B cells was confirmed by attenuated Ca2+ response and failure to upregulate CD69 upon BCR engagement with anti-IgM, anti-IgD, anti-Igκ, or anti-IgG. The BCR repertoire of the CD138int FO B cells was distinct from that of the CD138- FO B cells and included some class-switched B cells with low-level somatic mutations. These findings demonstrate the presence of polyclonal anergic B cells in the normal mice that are characterized by low-level expression of CD138, IgM downregulation, reduced Ca2+ and CD69 responses upon BCR engagement, and distinct BCR repertoire.

Forward osmosis membrane filtration for microalgae harvesting cultivated in sewage effluent

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of forward osmosis (FO) system for harvesting microalgae cultivated in secondary sewage effluent. Microalgae species used in this study were chlorella sp. ADE4. The drawing agents used for forward osmosis system were seawater and concentrate of sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) system. Chlorella sp. ADE4 cultured in secondary sewage effluent illustrated moderate efficiency in removal of total nitrogen (TN) (68%) and superior performance in total phosphorus (TP) removal (99%). Comparison of seawater and SWRO concentrate as drawing agent were made in FO membrane separation of the microalgae. The result from this study depicts that SWRO concentrate is strong drawing agent in FO membrane system providing an average dewatering rate of $4.8L/(m^2{\cdot}hr)$ compared to seawater with average dewatering of $2.9L/(m^2{\cdot}hr)$. Results obtained from this study indicated that FO system could be viable option for harvesting the microalgae for further biodiesel production. SWRO concentrate as a drawing agent could be very important finding in field of membrane technology for disposal of SWRO concentrate.

Overexpression of Adenosine Deaminase in Escherichia coli

  • To overexpress E. coli ADA in host strain E. coli M15, the expression plasmid pQEADD was constructed. To analyze the expression characteristics of ADA, a time course of the expression was first examined. The protein was not detected in no inducted in no induction samples. After the addition of IPTG, a band corresponding to the expected size of ADA was appeared. Its molecular weight was about 36,000 dalton. Maximum expression level was revealed when the cell cultured for 3∼4hrs after induction. This result indicated that the efficient expression of add can be achieved by induction at early logarithmic phase. The effect of different IPTG concentration on the degree of ADA expression was investigated. The expression levels of add were not largely affected by IPTG concentration. Location of overexpression ADA was checked out. A protein band corresponding to the ADA was seen in only crude extract B(insoluble protein). This result suggests that ADA is in E. coli M15. The molecular weight of ADA estimated by SDS-PAGE was approximately 36,000 Da.

Effect of Monensin and Fish Oil Supplementation on Biohydrogenation and CLA Production by Rumen Bacteria In vitro When Incubated with Safflower Oil

  • An in vitro study was conducted to examine the effect of monensin or fish oil addition on bio-hydrogenation of $C_{18^-} unsaturated fatty acids and CLA production by mixed ruminal bacteria when incubated with safflower oil. Commercially manufactured concentrate (1%, w/v) with safflower oil (0.2%, w/v) were added to mixed solution (600 ml) of strained rumen fluid and McDougalls artificial saliva (control). Monensin $Rumensin^{(R)}$, 10 ppm, w/v, MO), mixed fish oil (0.02%, w/v, absorbed to 0.2 g alfalfa hay, FO) or similar amounts of monensin and fish oil (MO+FO) to MO and FO was also added into the control solution. All the culture solutions prepared were incubated in the culture jar anaerobically at $39^{\circ}C$ up to 12 h. Higher pH (p<0.047) and ammonia concentration (p<0.042) were observed from the culture solution containing MO at 12 h incubation than those from the culture solutions of control or FO. The MO supplementation increased (p<0.0001-0.007) propionate proportion of culture solution but reduced butyrate proportion at 6 h (p<0.018) and 12 h (p<0.001) of incubations. Supplementation of MO or MO+FO increased (p<0.001) the proportions of $C_{18:2}$. The MO alone reduced (p<0.022-0.025) the proportion of c9,t11-CLA compared to FO in all incubation times. The FO supplementation increased the proportion of c9,t11-CLA. An additive effect of MO to FO in the production of c9,t11-CLA was observed at 6 h incubation. In vitro supplementation of monensin reduced hydrogenation of $C_{18^-}$UFAs while fish oil supplementation increased the production of CLA.

Performance Analysis for Secured Service Signals of RNSS Systems

  • When designing a new RNSS signal, the performance analysis for the legacy signal providing the same service, is required to determine the performance requirements. However, there are few studies on the secured service (SS) signal performance analysis, and the waveform is the only published information on the signal design component of the SS signal. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce several figures-of-merit (FoMs) that can be used for performance analysis in terms of the waveform. And then, we calculate the FoMs, such as autocorrelation main peak to secondary peak ratio (AMSR), spectral efficiency, Gabor bandwidth, multipath error, and jamming resistance quality factor, for the existing SS signals and discuss the analysis results. Finally, we conclude that the superior waveform for each FoM is different, and that the consideration of the trade-off relationship between the FoMs is required for waveform design.

정삼투 멤브레인 공정에서 칼슘이온과 용존 유기물 상호작용에 의한 플럭스 변화 연구 (Systematic study on calcium-dissolved organic matter interaction in a forward osmosis membrane-filtration system)

  • The investigation of effects on fouling propensity with various viscosity of feed solutions would be better understanding for forward osmosis (FO) performance since the fouling propensity was directly influenced with solution viscosity. Therefore, this study was focused on the FO fouling with model foultants (humic acid, alginate) by altering solution viscosity with change of ionic strength (I.S) and $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations. In the comparison between humic acid and alginate, as expected, the alginate generally caused more severe fouling (almost 35.8 % of flux reduction) based on the solution characteristics (high viscosity) and fouling patterns (coil and gel layer). However, interesting point to note is that the fouling propensity of alginate was more severe even though it was applied with low viscosity of feed conditions (I.S = 20 mM, $Ca^{2+}=1mM$). This might be due to that crossed linked gel layer of alginate on the FO membrane surface could be best formed in the condition of $Ca^{2+}$ presence and higher I.S, and that is more dominant to fouling propensity than the low viscosity of feed solutions.

  • The flat transformer, typically, has a number of parallel single turn secondary windings. Each secondary winding is coupled to the same primary winding. Therefore, the current in each secondary winding is equal to the ampere-turns in the primary winding, and to each other. These characteristics are particularly advantageous where parallel rectifiers are used. The windings share the current equally, with no need for ballast resistors or other added components. In this study, the ferrite magnetic core samples of Mn-Zn system for the Flat transformer are manufactured and the electrical and magnetic characteristics of its tested. The density of sample FO2-2 sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ is $4.00kg/m^3$, which shows the good microstructural state. The initial permeability and saturation flux density of FO2 at room temperature is 2700 and 510mT, individually. The power loss of FO2 samples at 250kHz have been ranged $350kW/m^3$ to $80kW/m^3$ with temperature. And the minimum power loss of sample FO2-2 showed at $70^{\circ}C$, which property seems very positive to apply for a flat transformer.

Galaxy identification with the 6D friends-of-friend algorithm for high resolution simulations of galaxy formation

  • Galaxy/Halo finding based on the friends-of-friend (FoF) algorithm has been widely adopted for its simplicity and expandability to the phase-space. However, cosmological simulations have been progressively bigger in size and more accurate in resolutions, resulting in that galaxy/halo finding gets computationally expensive more and more. In fact, we confirm this issue through our exercise of applying the 6-dimensional (6D) FoF galaxy finder code, VELOCIraptor (Elahi et al.2019) on the NewHorizon simulation (Dubois et al. 2021), in which typical galaxies with about 1e11 Msun (107 particles) are identified with very low speed (longer than a day). We have applied several improvements to the original VELOCIraptor code that solve the low-performance problem of galaxy finding on a simulation with high resolutions. Our modifications find the exact same FoF group and can be readily applied to any tree-based FoF code, achieving a 2700 (12) times speedup in the 3D (6D) FoF search compared to the original execution. We applied the updated version of VELOCIraptor on the entire NewHorizon simulation (834 snapshots) and identified its galaxies and halos. We present several quick comparisons of galaxy properties with those with GALAXYMaker data.

농도 분극이 저감된 정삼투 분리막 제조 (Preparation of Forward Osmosis Membranes with Low Internal Concentration Polarization)

  • 폴리에스터(polyester) 부직포 상에 폴리술폰(polysulfone) 고분자 지지체를 만든 후, 그 표면에 폴리아미드 복합 박막을 형성시킴으로써 정삼투(FO) 공정에 적합한 분리막을 제조하였다. PSF 지지체는 19 중량%의 함량으로 디메틸 포름아미드(DMF)에 균일하게 용해된 폴리술폰 용액을 상 전이 공정을 통하여 제조되었으며, 기계적 보강재로 $100{\mu}m$의 두께를 가지는 폴리에스터 부직포를 사용하였다. 19 중량%의 PSF/DMF 용액으로 제조된 PSF 지지층은 sponge-like구조를 가지는 비대칭 내부 구조를 나타내었다. 정삼투(FO) 공정에서 내부의 농도 분극을 줄이기 위하여, $20{\mu}m$의 얇은 부직포 보강층을 가지는 지지체 상에 9~19 중량%의 PSF/DMF 용액으로 PSF 지지체를 제조하였다. 이들 얇은 부직포 보강층에서 제조된 지지층들은 공극률이 향상된 sponge-like구조를 가지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 각각의 지지층들 표면에 방향족 폴리아미드 가교 반응을 통하여 복합 박막을 얻을 수 있었다. FO 운전 결과, 12 중량%의 DMF/PSF 용액으로 제조한 지지체를 가지는 복합 박막이 가장 우수한 투과 성능을 보여 주었다. 이 경우 4.5 LMH의 유량과 3.47 GMH의 염의 역확산 속도를 가지는 역삼투 분리막에 사용되는 두꺼운 부직포에 비해 약 2.5배 유량이 많은 24.3 LMH의 유량과 1.5 GMH의 염의 역확산 속도를 보여주고 있다. 부직포의 두께 저하와 이에 적합한 PSF 캐스팅 용액의 최적화를 통하여 부직포와 PSF층의 경계면 공극률을 향상시킬 수 있었다.
