Prevalence of Dirofilaria immitis Infection in Stray Cats by Nested PCR in Korea

  • The purpose of this study was to conduct a survey of Dirofilaria immitis infection among stray cats in Korea using nested PCR. We included 235 stray cats (121 females and 114 males) and evaluated each for the presence of feline heartworm infection. Blood samples were collected from 135 cats in Daejeon, 50 cats in Seoul, and 50 cats from Gyeonggi-do (Province). Of the 235 DNA samples, 14 (6.0%) were positive for D. immitis. The prevalence of infection in male cats (8/114, 7.0%) tended to be higher than that in female cats (6/121, 5.0%), but the difference was not statistically significant. In each location, 8, 2, and 4 cats were positive for infection, respectively, based on DNA testing. No significant differences in the prevalence were observed among the geographic regions, although the rate of infection was higher in Gyeonggi-do (8.0%) than Daejeon (5.9%) and Seoul (4.0%). We submitted 7 of the 14 D. immitis DNA-positive samples for sequencing analysis. All samples corresponded to partial D. immitis cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene sequences with 99% homology to the D. immitis sequence deposited in GenBank (accession no. FN391553). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first survey using nested PCR to analyze the prevalence of D. immitis in stray cats in Korea.

국내은행 스트레스테스트 모형개선에 관한 연구: 최적 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션 탐색과 BIS예측을 중심으로 (A Study on the Development of Stress Testing Model for Korean Banks: Optimal Design of Monte Carlo Simulation and BIS Forecasting)

  • Purpose - The main purpose of this study is to develop the stress test model for Korean banks by exploring the optimal Monte Carlo simulation and BIS forecasting model. Design/methodology/approach - This study selects 15 Korean banks as sample financial firms and collects relevant 76 quarterly data for the period between year 2000 and 2018 from KRX(Korea Excange), Bank of Korea, and FnGuide. The Regression analysis, Unit-root test, and Monte Carlo simulation are hired to analyze the data. Findings - First, most of the sample banks failed to keep 8% BIS ratio for the adverse and severely Adverse Scenarios, implying that Korean banks must make every effort to realize better BIS ratios under adverse market conditions. Second, we suggest the better Monte Carlo simulation model for the Korean banks by finding that the more appropriate volatility should be different depending on variables rather than simple two-sigma which has been used in the previous studies. Third, we find that the stepwise regression model is better fitted than simple regression model in forecasting macro-economic variables for the BIS variables. Fourth, we find that, for the more robust and significant statistical results in designing stress tests, Korean banks are required to construct more valid time-series and cross-sectional data-base. Research implications or Originality - The above results all together show that the optimal volatility in designing optimal Monte Carlo simulation varies depending on the country, and many Korean banks fail to pass sress test under the adverse and severely adverse scenarios, implying that Korean banks need to make improvement in the BIS ratio.

비호지킨림프종 환자의 발열성 호중구감소증에 대한 페그필그라스팀의 예방효과 (Prophylactic Effect of Pegfilgrastim on Febrile Neutropenia in Patients with Non-Hodgikin's Lymphoma)

  • Objective: Pegfilgrastim is recently introduced that is long acting G-CSF for prophylaxis of febrile neutropenia. Treatment of non-Hodgikin's lymphoma (NHL) with R-CHOP is classified with relative high risk of febrile neutropenia. The study evaluated the prophylactic effect of pegfilgrastim to reduce the incidence of febrile neutropenia associated with R-CHOP of patient in NHL. And the risk factors associated with the incidence of FN and related events were evaluated. Methods: This retrospective study reviews the Electronic Medical Record of 68 NHL patients who received R-CHOP chemotherapy in single center between September 2013 and August 2014. These patients were classified who receive prophylaxis pegfilgrastim or no prophylaxis. Results: Sixty eight patients received R-CHOP with NHL. In 144 cycles of patients receiving pegfilgrastim, compared with no prophylaxis 178 cycles, had a lower incidence of febrile neutropenia (5.5% vs. 23.6%, p = 0.001), grade 3 or grade 4 neutropenia (14.4% vs. 89.8%, p < 0.001) and neutropenia related events (p < 0.05). The risk of febrile neutropenia after prophylaxis was significantly associated with age ${\geq}65$ (OR: 5.87, 95% CI 1.07-32.27, p = 0.042), $IPI{\geq}3$ (OR: 7.2, 95% CI 1.31-39.6, p = 0.023), S.alb < 3.5 g/dL (OR: 31.01, 95% CI 6.32-152.17, p < 0.0001). In multiple logistic regression analysis, lower baseline serum albumin (OR: 21.1, 95% CI 3.8-116.98, p = 0.001) was significantly associated with occurrence of febrile neutropenia. Conclusion: The study recommends prophylactic pegfilgrastim through risk assessment of febrile neutropenia in patients with non-Hodgikin's lymphoma receiving R-CHOP.

  • From the analysis of current density-luminance-voltage characteristics of the double layered device in ITO/N,N'-diphenyl-N-N'bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'biphenyl-4,4'-diamine(TPD)/tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum($Alq_3$)/Al, we divided the conductive mechanism by four region according to applied voltage. We have obtained a coefficient of ${\beta}_{ST}$ in schottky region (I) is $4.14{\times}10^{-24}$ at the electric field of $3.2{\times}10^5$ V/cm, a slope in negative resistance region (II) appears negative properties decreasing the current density J for proportional in -1.58 square at a electric field of $7.3{\times}10^5$ V/cm. A coefficient of ${\beta}_{PF}$ in Poole-Frenkel region (III) is $8.28{\times}10^{-24}$ at the electric field of $8.4{\times}10^5$ V/cm, it was confirm어 that ${\beta}_{PF}$ is agrees with a value that relates with ${\beta}_{ST}$ such as ${\beta}_{PF}=2{\beta}_{ST}$ as the ${\beta}_{PF}$ and 2 ${\beta}_{ST}$ satisfied a theoretical prediction. And it was obtained a potential barrier of ${\Phi}_{FN}$ in Fower-Nordheim region(IV) is 0.3 eV at the electric field of $11.2{\times}10^5$ V/cm.

성악인에서 발성 시 음의 높낮이에 따른 성도 길이의 변화 (The Change of the Length of Vocal Tract in Singers according to the Phonation at Different Levels of Pitch)

  • Background and Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the change of vocal tract length according to the level of the pitch by the singers. Materials and Methods: Fifteen tenors were asked to produce successive /a/ sound in G4(382Hz) for the head register, C3(131Hz) for the chest register and usual speaking sound. The control group consisted of 15 males of an similar age who are not professional singers. The length of vocal tract was calculated by applying the formula of Fn=(2n-1) c/4L(F : formant frequency, c : the speed of sound in the vocal tract(350m/sec), L : length of vocal tract, $n=1,2,3,4,{\ldots}{\infty}$). Results: In singer's group, there showed no significant statistical difference of length among head and chest register and usual speaking sound. However in the control group, there showed statistically significant difference of length. Comparison of the absolute difference in the length of vocal tract by changing level of pitch in phonation, between the control group and the singers group. Changing from G4 phonation to C3 phonation and C3 phonation to usual speaking sound showed statistically difference of vocal tract length was less in the singers group than the control group. Conclusion: The change of vocal tract length, in either speaking or singing, was less in singers than the control group. We could assume that the singers maintain their larynx position constantly throughout the pitch range when phonation.

오비탈 용접법을 적용한 STS 316L 파이프 소재의 용접부 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Welds Characteristics of Stainless Steel 316L Pipe using Orbital Welding Process)

  • This paper was studied on microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion characteristics of 316L stainless steel pipe welds was fabricated by orbital welding process. S-Ar specimen was fabricated by using Ar purge gas and S-$N_2$ specimen was fabricated by using $N_2$ purge gas. Ferrite was not detected in weld metal of S-$N_2$ specimen but the order of 0.13 Ferrite number(FN) was detected in weld metal of S-Ar specimen. Oxygen and Nitrogen concentration of S-$N_2$ specimen was higher than S-Ar specimen on HAZ and inner bead. The welds microstructural characteristics of S-Ar and S-$N_2$ specimens are similar. The microvickers hardness values of S-Ar and S-$N_2$ specimens welds were similar and average values of each regions were in the range of 174~194. The microstructures of S-Ar and S-$N_2$ weld metal were full austenite by primary austenite solidification. The Solidification structures of S-Ar and S-$N_2$ weld metal were formed directional dendrite toward bead center. The potentiodynamic polarization curve of STS 316L pipe welds exhibited typical active, passive, transpassive behaviour. Corrosion current density$(I_{corr.})$ and corrosion rate values of S-Ar specimen in 0.1M HCl solution were $0.95{\mu}A/cm^2$ and $0.31{\mu}A$/year respectively. The values of S-$N_2$ specimen were $1.4{\mu}A/cm^2$ and $0.45{\mu}m$/year.

바다송사리 Oryzias dancena와 자바송사리 Oryzias javanicus 간 잡종 유도 (Hybridization between Marine Medaka Oryzias dancena and Javanese Medaka Oryzias javanicus)

  • Inductions of hybrids and reciprocal hybrids between Oryzias dancena and O. javanicus (ODJ and OJD) were conducted and backcross hybrids between female O. dancena and male ODJ were also produced for biological and cytogenetic analysis. Embryonic development of ODJ and OJD were compared with those of their parents. Developmental time was fastest in O. dancena and ODJ, followed by O. javanicus and OJD. Oryzias dancena hatched 11 days (d) after fertilization, ODJ at 13 d, O. javanicus at 14 d and OJD at 15 d. The abnormality of external morphology rate in ODJ was 10.6%; however, OJD showed a high degree of abnormality, over 90%. The proportion of males was 90.0% and 31.3% for ODJ and OJD, respectively. Cytogenetic analysis was conducted to obtain basic information for genetic identification of O. dancena, O. javanicus and their hybrids. The karyotypes of all experimental groups showed 2n=48 chromosomes and the fundamental number (FN) was 48. The first pair carried secondary constrictions near the centromeric regions. Erythrocyte area and volume were $9.8\;{\pm}\;0.5\;{\mu}m^2$ and $18.2\;{\pm}\;1.0\;{\mu}m^3$, respectively, for O. dancena, $8.3\;{\pm}\;0.5\;{\mu}m^2$ and $15.8\;{\pm}\;1.5\;{\mu}m^3$ in O. javanicus, and $18.3\;{\pm}\;0.5\;{\mu}m^2$ and $15.7\;{\pm}\;1.3\;{\mu}m^3$ in ODJ. Erythrocyte area and volume in ODJ were similar to those of O. javanicus. In backcross hybrids between female O. dancena and male ODJ, all embryos failed to develop and died in the late gastrula stage.

청소년기 정상교합자의 악안면 성장에 관한 두부방사선 규격사진 분석에 의한 누년적 연구(Ricketts분석법에 의한 연구) (A LONGITUDINAL CEPHALOMETRIC STUDY OF THE CRANIOFACIAL GROWTH CHANGES OF ADOLESCENCE WITH NORMAL OCCLLUSION)

  • 경북대학교 치과 대학에서 두개안면골 성장에 관한 누년적 연구의 일환으로 남자 25명, 여자 21명을 대상으로 평균 연령 8.5세에서 16.5세까지 격년 간격으로 촬영한 두부X선 규격사진을 이용하여 Ricketts분석법의 항목중 V.T.O.작성의 초기 단계인 치료전의 성장 예견시에 필요한 각도 및 거리 계측 항목을 선정 계측하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 계측항목중 연령에 따른 변화를 보이지 않는 항목은 성장 방향을 나타내는 facial axis angle, FH to palatal plane angle, BA-NA-A angle, lower facial height 및 lower incisor protrusion이었다. 2. 연령에 따라 지속적으로 증가하는 항목(anterior and posterior cranial base length, facial axis length, condyle axis length, corpus axis length)에서 연간 성장 변화량, 평균 연성장량 및 8년간 변화량을 구하였다. 3. 연령에 따라 지속적으로 증가하는 모든 계측 항목에서 12세 이후의 대부분의 연간 성장변화량, 평균 연성장량 및 8년간 변화량에서 남녀간 유의차를 나타내었다(P<0.05). 4. 남녀별로 각 연령에서 각 계측치의 평균치를 이용하여 visual norm을 작성하였다. 남자의 경우 각 기간동안 상당한 성장을 보였으며 특히 12-14세 기간에 가장 많은 성장을 나타내었고, 여자의 성장 변화에서는 10-12세 사이에서 가장 많은 성장을 나타내었으며 이후 점차 감소를 보였다.

자동합성장치를 이용한 [$^{18}F$]Fallypride의 합성 (Automated Synthesis of [$^{18}F$]Fallypride for Routine Clinical Use)

  • $[^{18}F]$Fallypride는 뇌의 도파민(dopamine) $D_2/D_3$ 수용체 (receptor)에 특이적으로 결합하는 길항제(antagonist)로 대뇌피질의 도파민 기능을 규명하기 위하여 많이 사용되어지는 방사성의약품이다. 그동안 발표되어진 자동 합성화 장치를 이용한 [$^{18}F$]Fallypride 합성은 20~30%의 낮은 합성 수율과 33~63 GBq/mmol의 낮은 비방사능이 보고되어졌고, 또, 상대적으로 긴 표지시간과 높은 농도의 base를 사용하기 때문에 다양한 부산물이 생성되어 정제의 어려움이 있어 임상에 사용되기에 한계가 많았었다. 본 연구에서는 다목적 F-18 합성장치인 GE TracerLab $FX_{FN}$ 모듈을 사용하여 base 농도를 최소화할 수 있는 연구를 수행하였고, [$^{18}F$]fallypride 합성에 적용하여 높은 합성수율과 비방사능(specific activity) 및 방사화학적 순도(radiochemical purity)를 합성하는 최적의 조건을 찾을 수 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 $66{\pm}1.4%$ (decay-corrected, n=28)의 높은 합성수율과 HPLC 분리, SPE 정제시간을 포함하여 총 $51{\pm}1.2$분에 빠르게 합성할 수 있었다. 합성 후, 품질관리 테스를 해 본 결과, 방사 화학적 순도는 95%이상, 비방사능은 166~470 $GBq/{\mu}mol$이었다. 본 연구에서 사용된 합성법은 [$^{18}F$]Fallypride를 이용한 dopamine $D_2/D_3$ 연구의 임상적 사용에 도움이 될 것이며, 낮은 농도의 base를 사용한 이 F-18 추출방법은 base에 민감한 전구체의 자동합성 생산에 유용할 것으로 사료된다.

발아기간에 따른 벼(Oryza sativa L.)의 부위별 효소저해활성 (Enzyme Inhibition Activities of Ethanol Extracts from Germinating Rough Rice (Oryza sativar L.))

  • 본 연구에서는 발아기간 및 부위별 벼 추출물에 대한 다양한 효소활성 저해효과를 조사하였다. 발아기간은 6일까지로 하였고, 발아된 벼는 왕겨+싹 부위와 현미로 나누어 80% ethanol로 환류 추출하였다. ${\alpha}$-Glucosidase 저해활성은 왕겨+싹 추출물에서 발아 전 26.32%에서 발아 5일차 39.38%로 증가하였으며, ${\alpha}$-amylase 저해활성은 왕겨+싹 추출물에서 발아 전 59.98%에서 발아 5일차 75.32%로 증가하였고, DPP-4 저해활성 또한 왕겨+싹 추출물에서 발아 전 38.80%에서 발아 5일차 47.77%로 증가하여 발아에 의해 효소활성 저해가 증가하였다. ACE 저해활성은 왕겨+싹 추출물에서 가장 높았으며 발아에 의해 증가하였다. Xanthine oxidase 저해활성은 발아가 진행됨에 따라 감소하였다. Lipase 저해활성은 발아 4일차 왕겨+싹 추출물이 36.78%로 무발아 31.72%에 비하여 증가하였다. 본 연구결과 벼를 발아시킬 경우 왕겨+싹에서 성인병 관료 효소를 억제하는 성분이 증가함을 알 수 있었으며, 추후에 어떠한 성분에 의한 것인지에 대한 연구가 수행되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.
