In this paper, a novel algorithm for increasing the steady state efficiency during light load operation of the induction generator that integrated with a wind power generation system is presented. The proposed algorithm based on the flux level reduction, where the flux level is estimated using Support-Vector -Machines for regression (SVR) for the optimum d-axis current of the generator. SVR is trained off-line to estimate the unknown mapping between the system's inputs and outputs, and then is used online to calculate the optimum d-axis current for minimizing generator loss. The experimental results show that SVR can define the flux-power loss accurately and determine the optimum d-axis current value precisely. The loss minimization process is more effective at low wind speed and the percent of power saving can approach to 40%.

We performed spectroscopic and photometric monitoring observations of a QSO, PG0934+013 for a reverberation-mapping analysis, using the 9-m Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) for spectroscopy and the 2-m Faulkes Telescope North and the South for photometry. The monitoring campaign was carried out for 5 month between December 2012 to April 2013, providing 20 spectroscopic epochs and ~40 photometric epochs. Based on the obtained spectra, which typically have a signal-to-noise ratio to 30-60, we performed multicomponent decomposition using various components, i.e., power-law continuum, FeII emission complex, and broad and narrow emission lines, to properly measure the Hbeta line flux. After a flux normalization using [O III] 5007 line luminosity, we obtained a rms spectrum from all epochs, which shows clear variability of Hbeta line. We find that Hbeta line flux decreases by ~20% during the monitoring period while the continuum flux obtained from the aperture photometry based on the imaging data, shows similar variability. The current Hbeta light curve shows monotonic decrease and a reliable cross correlation analysis between Hbeta and continuum light is difficult. Nevertheless, we obtained a preliminary lag measurements as ~24 light days.
As the modernization of the nuclear instrumentation system progresses, research reactors have adopted digital wide-range neutron power measurement (DWRNPM) systems. These systems typically monitor the neutron flux across a range of over 10 decades. Because neutron detectors only measure the local neutron flux at their position, the local neutron flux must be converted to total reactor power through calibration, which involves mapping the local neutron flux level to a reference reactor power. Conventionally, the neutron power range is divided into smaller subranges because the neutron detector signal characteristics and the reference reactor power estimation methods are different for each subrange. Therefore, many factors should be considered when preparing the calibration procedure for DWRNPM channels. The main purpose of this work is to serve as a reference for performing the calibration of DWRNPM systems in research reactors. This work provides a comprehensive overview of the calibration of DWRNPM channels by describing the configuration of the DWRNPM system and by summarizing the theories of operation and the reference power estimation methods with their associated calibration procedure. The calibration procedure was actually performed during the commissioning of an open-pool type research reactor, and the results and experience are documented herein.

A numerical modelling method using a backward-in-time advection dispersion equation is introduced in assessing the vulnerability of groundwater to contaminants as an alternative to classical vulnerability mapping methods. The flux and resident concentration measurements are normalized by the total contaminants mass released to the system to provide the travel time probability density function and the location probability function. With the results one can predict the expected travel time of a contaminant from up stream location to a well and also the relative concentration of the contaminant at a well. More specific groundwater vulnerability can be mapped by these predicted measurements.
Photometric reverberation mapping is an effective alternative to time consuming spectroscopy. It usually employs narrow bands to track the luminosity variations of broad emission lines, such as Balmer lines, and broadbands for the continuum variability. Here, we investigate the feasibility of substituting these for medium bands, with 50nm widths, that are currently being used on the SED Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (SQUEAN) installed on the 2.1m Otto Struve Telescope at McDonald Observatory. Three targets with recent variability and/or short expected time lags were selected, and observed for 15 minutes each in the medium band containing $H{\alpha}$, and the two adjacent bands for continuum subtraction afterwards. Analysis shows that for one of the objects, SDSS J0350+0037, the pure $H{\alpha}$ emission line flux has a S/N ~ 12, so that variabilities up to ~ 8% are detectable. Thus, future observations using these medium bands on SQUEAN seem to be practical.

This paper introduces the design of a fuzzy logic controller in conjunction with direct torque control strategy for a Permanent Magnet synchronous machine. A stator flux angle mapping technique is proposed to reduce significantly the size of the rule base to a great extent so that the fuzzy reasoning speed increases. Also, a fuzzy resistance estimator is developed to estimate the change in the stator resistance. The change in the steady state value of stator current for a constant torque and flux reference is used to change the value of stator resistance used by the controller to match the machine resistance.
Flame characteristics and combustion stability of a swirl coaxial injector are studied experimentally. Characteristics of flame and combustion instability are analyzed with the parameter of MFR (momentum flux ratio) using hexane instead of kerosene. Flame patterns of blue and yellow are changed with variable MFR. Combustion instabilities are measured and analyzed by adopting a model chamber. Combustion instability mapping is made by evaluating damping factor at the 2 L (second longitudinal) mode with variable MFR in 63 cases for operating condition.
In this research, the influence of the laminate stacking sequence on thermal stress distribution in symmetric composite plates with a quasi-square cutout subjected to uniform heat flux is examined analytically using the complex variable technique. The analytical solution is obtained based on the thermo-elastic theory and the Lekhnitskii's method. Furthermore, by employing a suitable mapping function, the solution of symmetric laminates containing a circular cutout is extended to the quasi-square cutout. The effect of important parameters including the stacking sequence of laminates, the angular position, the bluntness, the aspect ratio of cutout, the flux angle and the composite material are examined on the thermal stress distribution. It is found out that the circular shape for cutout may not necessarily be the optimum geometry for all stacking sequences. The finite element analysis results are used to validate the analytical solution.
Metabolic flux analysis was established by adapting previous stoichiometric model developed during growth with cellulose to cell grown with cellobiose for further direct comparison of the bacterial metabolism. In carbon limitation with cellobiose, a shift from acetate-ethanol fermentation to ethanol-lactate fermentation is observed and the pyruvate overflow is much higher than with cellulose. In nitrogen limitation with cellobiose, the cellodextrin and exopolysaccharide overflows are much higher than on cellulose. In carbon and nitrogen saturation with cellobiose, the cellodextrin, exopolysaccharide, and free amino acids overflows reach the highest levels observed but all remain limited on cellulose. By completely shunting the cellulosome, the use of cellobiose allows to reach much higher carbon consumption rates which, in return, highlights the metabolic limitation of C. cellulolyticum. Therefore, the physical nature of the carbon source has a profound impact on the metabolism of C. cellulolyticum and most probably of other cellulolytic bacteria. For cellulolytic bacteria, the use of soluble carbon substrate must carefully be taken into consideration for the interpretation of results. Direct comparison of metabolic flux analysis from cellobiose and cellulose revealed the importance of cellulosome, phosphoglucomutase and pyruvate-ferredoxin oxidoreductase in the distribution of carbon flow in the central metabolism. In the light of these findings, future directions for improvement of cellulose catabolism by this bacterium are discussed.

For the application of the neutron flux mapping, an accurate calculation of the sensitivity is required because the sensitivity is proportional to the neutron flux density. Sensitivity is defined as the current per unit length per unit neutron flux and it mainly depends on the depression factor(f), the escape probability from the emitter($\varepsilon$1) and the charge build-up factor of the insulator layer(c). A Monte Carlo simulation was accomplished to calculate the sensitivity of rhodium emitter material and alumina(Al$_2$O$_3$) insulator with a cylindrical geometry, based on the (n,${\beta}$) interaction and on other interaction including the secondary electron generation for the more accurate estimation of the sensitivity. From the simulation results, factors fur the sensitivity were accurately calculated and compared with other theoretical and experimental values. In addition, the sensitivity linearly increases and saturates as the emitter radius increases. The accomplished method is useful in the analysis for the change of SPND sensitivity as a function of burn-up and in the optimum design of SPND.
