A Transient Model Analysis of a Fluorescent Lamp at Startup Time (형광램프의 기동시 과도특성 모델 해석)

  • Fluorescent lamps are widely accepted to energy efficient commercial lighting applications. In designing a fluorescent lamp system, a ballast design heavily relies on the characteristic of a fluorescent lamp under consideration. Especially, at startup time, the transient characteristic of a fluorescent lamp puts much tighter specification of a design. In this paper, based on the transient characteristic at the startup time, a transient behavioral model of a fluorescent lamp is presented with an equivalent circuit. The model is applicable to the wide range of fluorescent lamps provided by different manufacturers. The experimental results are compared with the results provided by PSPICE simulation. The result shows the model is effective In practice. As a result, we could identify more accurate startup constraints to decide the design of either an electro mechanical or an electronic ballast.

  • In recent, it became necessary to develop the technology about electrodeless fluorescent lamp according to demand of the electrodeless fluorescent lamp system that used higher efficiency and advantage of long lifetime. Inductively coupled plasma is commonly used for electrodeless lamp due to its ease of plasma generation. An electric power efficiency of electrodeless fluorescent lamp has big relative property of gas in lamp, gas pressure, lamp formation, ingredients of magnetic substance and shape and action frequency etc. We used magnetic substance that open self-examination material of electrodeless fluorescent lamp antenna. Ferrite that is used in this experiment was Mn-Zn type. We have examined temperature and flux characteristic by frequency. Considering using frequency 2.65[MHz], Frequency was changed from 2.05(MHz) to 3.05[MHz] to recognize flux and temperature change of lamp. I used LMS(Lighting Measurement System) to measure flux and IR Camera to measure temperature of lamp.

  • In this paper, We measured an electric and optical characteristics for electrodeless fluorescent lamp system. We used the CCD(charged couple device) and Integrating Sphere Photometer to detect the accurate variation of data and got a characteristic of output voltage and current, luminance, luminous flux etc. And then we come to understand that the efficiency of electrodeless fluorescent lamps are similar to CFLs(compact fluorescent lamp) or HID(high intensity discharge lamp).

  • In this paper, we reported an outbreak of fire hazard of ballast for fluorescent lamp. The surface structure and composition of ballast coil analyzed by using metallurgical microscope, scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDX). The surface of molten mark appeared columnar structure and void. EDX analysis indicated that the molten mark spectra were composed not only of the corresponding original spectra but also of several new lines.

  • Two different resonance inverters used as fluorescent lamp ballast are based on the self oscillation at the series resonance of the circuit components. Each circuit is simulated on a computer in order to explain its function and the variation of the circuit variables for each of the circuit elements. Experimental results have bean carried out on the unsymmetrical scheme to indicate the voltage and current of the fluorescent lamp operation at the high frequency.

  • Xe content is one of important factors related to characteristics of the mercury-free flat fluorescent lamp. The electro-optical properties of lamp were investigated for wide range of Xe content in Xe-Ne mixing gas. The maximum luminance of $9,289\;cd/m^2$ and efficacy of 3 lm/W was obtained with Xe 90 %.

  • When emergency lighting using a D.C. source is needed, we select the fluorescent lamp that has higher efficiency than that of an incandescene lamp. This paper deals with a series inverter for a fluorescent lamp load, which has high frequency output characteristics. First, the appropriate operating frequency is determined and second, the optimum value of circuit elements is determined in consideration of several important conditions. The results obtained by experimentations are represented.
