Part load operation usually covers large periods of the total operation time on the economic ground and electricity demand in small-scale boilers. Performance analysis of part load behavior is very important for the purpose of boiler operation optimization. A simple thermal calculation approach is applied to predict performance of a pilot-scale circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler at part load operation. Verification has been carried out by comparing between calculation results an operation data of the boiler.
The fast pyrolysis characteristics of lignocellulosic biomass are investigated for a bubbling fluidized bed reactor by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). To simulate multiphase reacting flows for gases and solids, an Eulerian-Eulerian approach is applied. Attention is paid for the primary and secondary reactions affected by gas-solid flow field. From the result, it is scrutinized that fast pyrolysis reaction is promoted by chaotic bubbling motion of the multiphase flow enhancing the mixing of solid particles. In particular, vortical flow motions around gas bubbles play an important role for solid mixing and consequent fast pyrolysis reaction. Discussion is made for the time-averaged pyrolysis reaction rates together with time-averaged flow quantities which show peculiar characteristics according to local transverse location in a bubbling fluidized bed reactor.
A laboratory scale fluidized bed reactor was developed to treat the combustion characteristics of some fuels (wood, paper sludge, refuse derived fuel). The aims were to introduce the means of experiment and interpretation of the results and finally determine the particle characteristics on the pyrolysis and combustion process of the fuel. A single particle combustion process in the fluidized bed was closely observed. Understanding experimental facility characteristics and determining parameters were also carried out. The fuel combustion processes were observed by carbon conversion rate, recovery and mean carbon conversion time. They were estimated with the CO, $CO_2$ gas concentration monitored at the exit of the combustor. Fuel drying and pyrolysis process were governed by temperature distribution in the fuel particle. There was a significant overlap of the drying and devolatilization. However, transition process from devolatilization to char combustion seemed to be determined by mechanical solidity of the fuel particle after devolatilization process.

340 MWe circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler in Yeosu power station is under construction. The circulating fluidized bed boiler in the Yeosu power plant has a number of differences from other domestic boilers in terms of scale and design. Evaluation of design parameters of the Yeosu CFB boiler should be required because the direct application of existing technology is limited. In this study, design characteristics of the Yeosu CFB boiler was summarized. And thermogravimetric analysis was conducted with comparing other rank coals. Watersteam side heat absorption, flue gas temperature and heat transfer coefficient were calculated by heat and mass balance. Design parameters for the Yeosu CFB boiler were discussed along with typical value in the CFB design range.
An effective scale-up methodology of fluidized bed incinerators for low calorific value industrial wastes such as paper sludge and sewage sludge has been developed based on the similarity rules. Conventional scale-up theories are briefly reviewed and a new simple theory defining the diffusion Fourier number is established taking account of the lateral mixing of fuels in the fluidized bed. From the design and the operating conditions of the pilot FBC plant at Inchon, important design data for the full-scale incinerators are calculated and discussed.
Aluminum was deposited on aluminum oxide powders using a fluidized bed reactor at atmospheric pressure. The aluminum oxide powders were irregular flakes with acute angles and the average particle size was 26 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The fluidized bed was formed by flowing argon gas at the velocity of 60 cm/sec. The optimal fluidization condition was obtained with the reactor designed to be tapered so that the fluid velocity decreases as the fluidizing gas goes up along the reactor. Aluminum was deposited by flowing TiBA(Triisobutylaluminum) evaporated at$250^{\circ}C$ through the fluidized bed reactor heated to 350~$450^{\circ}C$. The result from the analysis by XRD and EDAX confirmed the coating of aluminum and an SEM micrograph showed the conformality.
Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) is a technically and economically proven technology for boiler systems and large CFB coal boilers are making inroads into the domestic power boiler market. For biomass gasification, it is also considered as a very promising technology for commercial. Due to the lack of experiences of a large scale CFB gasifier, however, any large scale CFB gasifiers are hard to in Korea in spite of fast-growing demand of domestic market. In this study, a 3 $MW_{th}$ CFB gasifier was developed for biomass gasification. The CFB gasifier consists of interconnected fast and bubbling fluidized bed reactors including unique features for in-situ tar removal. Various numerical and experimental approaches will be presented such as basic modeling works, investigation of hydrodynamics with a cold model, computational particle fluid dynamics and experiments in the 3 MWth gasifier.

The present work proposed a newly developed fluidized bed-type psychrometer that could be applicable to the high temperature and contaminant gases. The psychrometer is a device that test gas passes through the water in a glass bottle as a bubbly flow to obtain the adiabatic saturation temperature. A fluidized bed-type psychrometer was made and its characteristics were compared with the Assmann Psychrometer. The characteristic time was in the order of a hundred seconds, and decreased for the decrease of the mass of water and the increase of the air flow rate. The air flow rate and the insulation of the glass bottle were definitely important in the accurate measurement of the wet bulb temperature. The error in wet bulb temperature became less than 5 percent of the difference of dry and wet bulb temperatures if the air velocity in the glass bottle was greater than 1.5m/s.

A lab-scale fluidized bed heat exchanger for waste gas heat recovery is devised and tested. Compared to our previous works on fluidized bed type system with a single riser, the present heat exchanger system is featured by its multiple (four) risers to handle increased amount of exhaust gas. Particles are introduced to the main hot gas stream alongside the pipe circumference near riser inlets. The heat exchanger performance and pressure drop are evaluated through experiments for the present gas-to-water heat exchanger system.
A study was made to investigate the effects of various binders on the physical properties of acetaminophen granules and tablets prepared by wet and fluidized bed granulation methods. The binders used were povidone (K-90), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC-L) and gelatin. The fluidized bed granules were more porous than the wet massed, and the tablets prepared by fluidized system showed improved disintegration and dissolution characteristics. The dissolution rate was fast in the order of gelatin>povidone>hydroxypropylcellulose in tablets prepared by fluidized system, and povidone>hydroxypropylcellulose>gelatin in tablets prepared by wet granulation.
