In the current study, A model for the flow analysis of fresh and highly flowable concrete has been developed using a particle method, the moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method. The phenomena on the flow of concrete has been considered as a visco-plastic flow problem, and the basic governing equation of concrete particle dynamics has been based on the Navier-Stokes equation in Lagrangian form and the conservation of mass. In order to formulate a visco-plastic flow constitutive law of fresh concrete, concrete is modeled as a highly viscous material in the state of non-flow and as a visco-plastic material in the state of flow after reaching the yield stress of fresh concrete. A flow test of fresh concrete in the L-box was simulated and the predicted flow was well matched with the experimental result. The developed method was well showed the flow motion of concrete particles because it was formulated to be based on the motion of visco-plastic fluid dynamics.

An identification method for determination of the parameters of the rheological models of dampers made of viscoelastic material is presented. The models have two, three or four parameters and the model equations of motion contain derivatives of the fractional order. The results of dynamical experiments are approximated using the trigonometric function in the first part of the procedure while the model parameters are determined as the solution to an appropriately defined optimization problem. The particle swarm optimization method is used to solve the optimization problem. The validity and effectiveness of the suggested identification method have been tested using artificial data and a set of real experimental data describing the dynamic behavior of damper and a fluid frequently used in dampers. The influence of a range of excitation frequencies used in experiments on results of identification is also discussed.
It had been disputed how to apply wall drag to the dispersed phase in the framework of the conventional two-fluid model for two-phase flows. Recently, Kim et al. [1] introduced the volume-averaged momentum equation based on the equation of a solid/fluid particle motion. They showed theoretically that for dispersed two-phase flows, the overall two-phase pressure drop by wall friction must be apportioned to each phase, in proportion to each phase fraction. In this study, the validity of the proposed wall drag model is demonstrated though one-dimensional (1D) simulations. In addition, it is shown that the existing form loss model incorrectly predicts the motion of the dispersed phase. A new form loss model is proposed to overcome that problem. The newly proposed form loss model is tested in the region covering the lower plenum and the core in a nuclear power plant. As a result, it is shown that the new models can correctly predict the relative velocity of the dispersed phase to the surrounding fluid velocity in the core with spacer grids.
We propose a new pipeline of fluid surface reconstruction that incorporates hybrid SDF(signed distance fields) and adaptive fluid surface techniques to finely reconstruct liquid-solid mixed surfaces. Previous particle-based fluid simulation suffer from a noisy surface problem when the particles are distributed irregularly. If a smoothing scheme is applied to reduce the problem, sharp and detailed features can be lost by over-smoothing artifacts. Our method constructs a hybrid SDF by combining signed distance values from the solid and liquid parts of the object. We also proposed a method of adaptively reconstructing the surface of the fluid to further improve the overall efficiency. This not only shows the detailed surface of the solid and liquid parts, but also the detail of the solid surface and the smooth fluid surface when both materials are mixed. We introduce the concept of guiding shape and propose a method to get signed distance value quickly. In addition, the hybrid SDF and mesh reconstruction techniques are integrated in the adaptive framework. As a result, our method improves the overall efficiency of the pipeline to restore fluid surfaces.
We propose an efficient method to express water spray effects by adaptively modeling air particles in particle-based water simulation. In real world, water and air continuously interacts with each other around free surfaces and this phenomenon is commonly observed in waterfall or sea with rough waves. Due to thin spray water, the interfaces between water and air become vague and the interactions between them lead to heavy vortex phenomenon. To express this phenomenon, we propose methods of 1) generating adaptive air cell in particle-based water simulation, 2) expressing water spray effects by creating and evolving air particles in the adaptive air cells, and 3) guaranteeing robustness of simulation by solving drifting problem occurred when adjacent air particles are insufficient. Experiments convincingly demonstrate that the proposed approach is efficient and easy to use while delivering high-quality results.
Paclitaxel is a taxane diterpene amide, which was first extracted from the stem bark of the western yew, Taxus brevifolia. This natural product has proven to be useful in the treatment of a variety of human neoplastic disorders, including ovarian cancer, breast and lung cancer. Paclitaxel is a highly hydrophobic drug that is poorly soluble in water. It is mainly given by intravenous administration. Therefore, The pharmaceutical formulation of paclitaxel ($Taxol^{(R)}$; Bristol-Myers Squibb) contains 50% $Cremophor^{(R)}$ EL and 50% dehydrated ethanol. However the ethanol/Cremophor EL vehicle required to solubilize paclitaxel in $Taxol^{(R)}$ has a pharmacological and pharmaceutical problems. To overcome these problems, new formulations for paclitaxel that do not require solubilization by $Cremophor^{(R)}$ EL are currently being developed. Therefore this study utilized a supercritical fluid antisolvent (SAS) process for cremophor-free formulation. To select hydrophilic polymers that require solubilization for paclitaxel, we evaluated polymers and the ratio of paclitaxel/polymers. HP-${\beta}$-CD was used as a hydrophilic polymer in the preparation of the paclitaxel solid dispersion. Although solubility of paclitaxel by polymers was increased, physical stability of solution after paclitaxel/polymer powder soluble in saline was unstable. To overcome this problem, we investigated the use of surfactants. At 1/20/40 of paclitaxel/hydrophilic polymer/ surfactant weight ratio, about 10 mg/mL of paclitaxel can be solubilized in this system. Compared with the solubility of paclitaxel in water ($1\;{\mu}g/mL$), the paclitaxel solid dispersion prepared by SAS process increased the solubility of paclitaxel by near 10,000 folds. The physicochemical properties was also evaluated. The particle size distribution, melting point and amophorization and shape of the powder particles were fully characterized by particle size distribution analyzer, DSC, SEM and XRD. In summary, through the SAS process, uniform nano-scale paclitaxel solid dispersion powders were obtained with excellent results compared with $Taxol^{(R)}$ for the physicochemical properties, solubility and pharmacokinetic behavior.
The hydraulic cylinder seals are used not only to protect leakage of the working fluids but also to prevent incoming of foreign particles into the system. Chromium plating is generally applied to improve corrosion and wear resistance. It has been noticed that sealing surface damage occurs due to the hard foreign/wear particles contained in the hydraulic oil. In this study, a three-bodied sliding contact problem related with a PTFE seal, a spherical particle and chrome-plated steel substrate is modeled to investigate the relations to wear mechanism. Using the nonlinear finite element software, MARC/MENTAT, the deformed shapes, the von Mises and first principal stress distributions with plating thickness were compared. The sealing surface was mainly abraded by hard particles embedded in the seal. The plastic deformation of the steel substrate decreased with thicker plating. Hence it could be more effective to coat the sealing surface of a hydraulic cylinder with a hard material such as TiN, TiC and DLC.
Three dimensional numerical analysis of the oxygen and air were performed to investigate the combustion characteristics in a Corner-type pulverized coal boiler. With the actual operation data of the power plant, the distribution of velocity, gas temperature, $O^2$, $CO_2$, $H_2O$, $N_2$ as well as the particle tracking in the boiler were investigated. The predicted values at the outlet of furnace for the gas temperature and major species concentrations gave a good agreement with the designed values. The present analysis on combustion characteristics in a boiler would provide the useful information for the stable boiler operation and in trouble shooting boiler problem.
The purpose of this paper is to study and analysis the failure examples for parasitic current leakage produced in starting system on gasoline engine. It verified the discharge of battery by electric leakage because of internal wiring damage problem for CD auto changer installed in car. Also, it verified the no-stating phenomenon because of deposit forming by chemical reaction of battery fluid between battery post and cable fixing parts. It verified the damage for brush holder and commutator mixing by internal short phenomenon because of brush carbon a particle and engine oil that was flowed into internal of starting motor. It verified the working phenomenon of audio by a point of contact even if the driver turn to "LOCK" position the key.
The present experimental study is aimed to investigate the flow characteristics of the high-speed flow field within hot-water pump by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). As multi-point simultaneous velocity acquisition, 2-D PIV system based upon the two-frame gray-level cross correlation method is adopted using PC frame-grabber and simple video system. Gated image intensifier CCD Camera to cope with illumination problem is arranged for accurate PIV measurement of high-speed complex flow. The velocity vector distribution, velocity profile, and kinetic energy are represented quantitatively at the full-scale region for the deeper understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics in a pump.
