In this paper, the wave propagation in generalized thermo elastic plate immersed in fluid is studied based on the Lord-Shulman (LS) and Green-Lindsay (GL) generalized two dimensional theory of thermo elasticity. Two displacement potential functions are introduced to uncouple the equations of motion. The frequency equations that include the interaction between the plate and fluid are obtained by the perfect-slip boundary conditions using the Bessel function solutions. The numerical calculations are carried out for the material Zinc and the computed non-dimensional frequency, phase velocity and attenuation coefficient are plotted as the dispersion curves for the plate with thermally insulated and isothermal boundaries. The wave characteristics are found to be more stable and realistic in the presence of thermal relaxation times and the fluid interaction.

In ship structures, many parts are in contact with inner or outer fluid as stern, ballast and oil tanks. Fatigue damages can be sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance. Tank structures in ships are in contact with water and the vibration characteristics are strongly affected by the added mass of containing water. Therefore it is important to predict vibration characteristics of tank structures. In order to estimate the vibration characteristics, the fluid-structure interaction problem has to be solved precisely. In the present paper, we have developed a numerical tool of vibration analysis of 3-dimensional tank structures using finite elements for plates and boundary elements for water region. To verify the present analysis, we have made an experiment for vibration characteristics of a tank with elastic opposite panels. And the added mass effect of containing water and the effect of structural constraint between panels are investigated numerically and discussed.

Using the classical, first order and third order shear deformation plates theories the motion equations of an undrained porous FG circular plate which is located on visco-Pasternak elastic foundation have been derived and used for free vibration analysis thereof. Strains are related to displacements by Sanders relationship. Fluid has saturated the pores whose distribution varies through the thickness according to three physically probable given functions. The equations are discretized and numerically solved by the generalized differential quadrature method. The effect of porosity, pores distribution, fluid compressibility, viscoelastic foundation and aspect ratio of the plate on its vibration has been considered.

This paper presents vibration mode control of a smart plate containing electro-rheological (ER) fluid between elastic face layers. Following the composition of a silicone oil-based ER fluid, the ER fluid-embedded plate partitioned into four sections is constructed. Then, an extensive modal test is experimentally carried out to identify field-dependent modal parameters such as mode shapes and natural frequencies of the structure with respect to different are subjected to electric fields. The distilled results from the experiment exhibit that the ER fluid can be effectively employed in a continuous fashion to tune modal behaviors of the distributed parameter systems,

Two-phase cross-flow exists in many shell-tube heat exchangers such as condensers, reboilers and nuclear steam generators. To avoid problems due to excessive vibration, information on vibration excitation in two-phase cross-flow is required. Fluid-elastic instability is discussed in this paper. Four tube bundle configurations were subjected to increasing flow up to the onset of fluid-elastic instability. The tests were done on bundles with one flexible tube surrounded by rigid tubes. The fluid-elastic instability behavior is different for intermittent flows than for bubbly flows. For bubbly flows, the observed instabilities satisfy the relationship V/fd=K(2.pi..zeta. m/rho. $d^{21}$)$^{0.51}$ in which the minimum instability factor K was found to be 2.3 for bundles of p/d=1.22. The lowest critical velocities for fluid-elastic instability were experienced with parallel-triangular tube bundles. For intermittent flow, the observed instabilities did not follow the forgoing relation-ship. Significantly lower flow velocities were required for instability..

Performance of array sonars towed underwater is limited due to the self-noise induced mainly by the strumming vibration of the towing cable and also turbulent flow around the acoustic sensor module. The vibration of the towing cable generates axisymmetric waves that propagate along the acoustic module of the array sonar and produce self-noise. The present study aims to investigate the characteristics of the self-noise induced by the axisymmetric vibrations of the acoustic module. The waves of interest are the bulge and extensional waves propagating along the fluid-filled elastic hose. Dispersion relations of these waves are predicted by means of the numerical simulation to evaluate the wave speeds. The self-noise induced by the axisymmetric waves are formulated taking into account the damping of the elastic hose and the effect of the damping is investigated.

In this research the coupling problem between the elastic structure and the fluid, specially the hydroelastic harmonic vibration problem, is studied. In order to couple the domains, i.e., the structural domain and the fluid domain, the boundary integral method(direct boundary integral formulation) is used in the fluid domain in combination with the finite element method for the structure. The boundary integral method has been widely developed to apply it to the hydroelastic vibration problem. The hybrid boundary integral method using eigenfunctions on the radiation boundaries and the boundary integral method using the series form image-functions to replace the even bottom and free surface boundaries in case of high frequencies have been developed and tested. According to the boundary conditions and the frequency ranges the different boundary integral methods with the different idealizations of the fluid boundaries have been studied. Using the same interpolation functions for the pressure distribution and the displacement the two domains have been coupled and using Hamilton principle the solution of the hydroelastic have been obtained through the direct minimizing process. It has become evident that the finite-boundary element method combining with the eigenfunction or the image-function method give good results in comparison with the experimental ones and the other numerical results by the finite element method.

Fluid loading of a vibrating cylindrical shell has influence on natural frequencies and vibration magnitudes of the shell and the acoustic pressure of fluid. The vibroacoustics of fluid-filled cylindrical shells need the coupled solution of Helmholtz equation and governing equation of a cylindrical shell with boundary conditions. This paper proposed the wall impedance of fluid-filled axisymmetric cylindrical shells, focusing on the inner fluid/shell interaction. To propose the impedance, shell displacements used the linear combination of in vacuo shell modes. Acoustic pressure prediction of fluid used Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral equation with Green's function of the plane mode. For the demonstration of the proposed results, numerical applications on mufflers were conducted.
