  • For the purpose of high outlet pressure, compactness and low vibration and noise, 2 stage reciprocating air compressors can have various cylinder arrangement: opposed, in-line, and V type. This paper presents an effective method to calculate the inertia forces and to design counter weight. This method is based on the complex representation for the orbital behavior of the compressor shaft. This method helps to find the optimal balancing rate easily to reduce the inertial force or moment. This paper shows that the residual inertia forces of the single throw shafts and the residual inertia moments of the double throw shafts remain to be imbalanced.

  • The vibrational system of this study consists of a cantilever pipe conveying fluid, the moving masses upon it and having an attached tip mass. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influences of the velocity and the inertia force of the moving mass and the velocities of fluid flow in the pipe have been studied on the dynamic behavior and the natural frequency of a cantilever pipe by numerical method. The deflection of the cantilever pipe conveying fluid is increased due to the tip mass and rotary Inertia. After the moving mass passed upon the cantilever pipe, the amplitude of pipe is influenced by energy variation when the moving mass fall from the cantilever pipe. As the moving mass increase, the frequency of the cantilever pipe conveying fluid is increased. The rotary inertia of the tip mass influences much on the higher frequencies and vibration mode.

  • Particle suspension is frequently observed in many natural flows such as in the atmosphere and the ocean as well as in various engineering flows. Recently, airborne micro or nano-scale particles in atmosphere attract much attention from environmental society since small particle cause serious environmental problems in the industrialized areas. Also, the characteristics of such heavy particles' behavior is quite different from its fluid particles because the inertia force and buoyance force acting on the heavy particles are different than those acting on fluid particles. Therefore, our studies is to investigate the characteristics of the behavior of heavy particles considering the inertia effect with or without gravity effect, but do not consider modification of turbulence by the particles, that is one-way interaction. We carried out direct numerical simulation of isotropic turbulence with particles under the Stokes drag assumption for a spherical particle. These results can be used in the development of a stochastic model for predicting particle's behavior.

  • A pulsation of fluid in a pipe sometimes causes severe vibration of pipe. The inertia, damping and stiffness characteristics of pipe will be changed by the effect of fluid-structure interaction. The velocity and pressure of fluid will impose the force to a bended shape pipe. In this paper, a pipe with fluid flow is modeled by finite element method and the fluid force from pulsation is also modeled by the fluid dynamics. The vibration of pipe conveying pulsating fluid flow can be estimated by taking into consideration of fluid-structure interaction.

  • An approximate analytical method has been developed for estimating hydrodynamic forces acting on oscillating inner cylinder in concentric annulus. When the rigid inner cylinder executes translational oscillation, fluid inertia and damping forces on the oscillating cylinder are generated by unsteady pressure and viscous skin friction. Considering the dynamic-characteristics of unsteady viscous flow and the added mass coefficient of inviscid fluid, these hydrodynamic forces including viscous effect are dramatically simplified and expressed in terms of oscillatory Reynolds number and the geometry of annular configuration. Thus, the viscous effect on the forces can be estimated very easily compared to an existing theory. The forces are calculated by two models developed for relatively high and low oscillatory Reynolds numbers. The model for low oscillatory Reynolds number is suitable for relatively high ratio of the penetration depth to annular space while the model for high oscillatory Reynolds number is applicable to the case of relatively low ratio. It is found that the transient ratio between two models is approximately 0.2~0.25 and the forcea are expressed in terms of oscillatory Reynolds number, explicity. The present results show good agreements with an existing numerical results, especially for high and low penetration ratios to annular gap.

Increasing of the velocity of fluid flow make the amplitude of cantilever pipe conveying fluid decrease. The deflection of the cantilever pipe conveying fluid is increased by moving masses. After the moving mass passed upon the cantilever pipe, the amplitude of pipe is influenced due to the deflection of pipe tilth the effect of moving mass and gravity.

  • In this paper, a computer simulation method for dynamic analysis of the hydraulic engine mount system is proposed. The hydraulic engine mount system controls the damping characteristics using the viscosity of fluid flow The complex stiffness of the main rubber of the hydraulic engine mount system is computed by finite element analysis for the viscoelastic materials and hydro-static elements. A numerical analysis method is presented to solve nonlinear equations of the hydraulic engine mount system. which is composed of an engine mass, fluid in inertia track and a vertical inertia force of reciprocating mass in the engine. Also. dynamic properties of the hydraulic engine mount system are analyzed in the frequency domain. Effects of the hydraulic engine mount system running over the rough road are investigated using a vehicle dynamic model. These results are compared with those of the rubber mount system.

  • In this paper, the interface stability not to occur mixing and entrainment between the adjacent layers has been studied in the case of the selective withdrawal of a stratum and the injection in stratified fluid formed by the density difference in a small solar pond. There are stability parameter, Richardson number, Rayleigh number and Froude number as the parameters governing stability in order to measure the interface stability on the stratified fluid. The model which could measure the interface stability on the stratified fluid was the small solar pond composed by 1 meters wide, 2 meters high, and 5 meters long. In order to measure the interface stability on the stratified fluid at the inlet port, the middle section and the outlet port, Richardson number, Rayleigh number, and Froude number involved in the parameters governing the stability were calculated by means of the data resulted from the test of the study on hydrodynamic stability between the convective and nonconvective layers in that solar pond. Richardson number written by the ratio of inertia force to buoyancy force can be used in order to measure the stability on the stratified fluid related to the buoyancy force generated from the injection of fluid. Rayleigh number written by the product of Grashof number by Prandtl number can be used in order to measure the stability of the fluid related to the heat flux and diffusivity of viscosity. Froude number written by the ratio of gravity force to inertia force can be used in order to measure the stability of the nonhomogeneous fluid related to the density difference. As the result of calculating the parameters governing stability, the interface stability on the stratified fluid couldn't be identified below the 70cm height from the bottom of the solar pond, but it could be identified above the 70cm height from it at the inlet port, the middle section and the outlet port. When compared with such the three parameters as Richardson number, Rayleigh number, Froude number, the calculated result was in accord with them at inlet port, the middle section and the outlet port. Henceforth, it is learned that even though any of the three parameters is used for the purpose of measuring the interface stability on the stratified fluid, the result will be the same with them. It is concluded that all the use of Richardson number, Rayleigh number, and Froude number, is desirable and infallible to measure the interface stability on the stratified fluid in the case of considering the exist of the fluid flow and the heat flux like the model of the solar pond.

  • This paper reports on the theoretical and experimental study of the pressure ripples in a pressure unbalanced type vane pump which have widespread use in industry. Because they can infinitely vary the volume of the fluid pumped in the system by a control. Pressure ripples occur due to the flow ripples induced by geometry of side plate, leakage flow, reverse flow from the outlet volume produced by pressure difference between pumping chamber and outlet volume when the pumping chamber connected with the outlet volume. In this paper, we measured the pressure variation of a pumping chamber, reaction force on a cam ring, the mathematical model for analyzing the pressure ripples which included vane detachment and fluid inertia effects in notch area has been presented, and was applied to predict the level and the wave form of the pressure ripples according to operating conditions.
