  • In this study, in order to examine the applicability of computational fluid dynamics with the porous model to the analysis of APR+ (Advanced Power Reactor Plus) internal flow, simulation was conducted with the commercial multi-purpose computational fluid dynamics software, ANSYS CFX V.14. In addition, among the various reactor internals, the effect of flow skirt geometry on reactor internal flow was investigated. It was concluded that the porous model for some reactor internal structures could adequately predict the hydraulic characteristics inside the reactor in a qualitative manner. If sufficient computation resource is available, the predicted core inlet flow distribution is expected to be more accurate, by considering the real geometry of the internal structures, especially located in the upstream of the core inlet. Finally, depending on the shape of the flow skirt, the flow distribution was somewhat different locally. The standard deviation of the mass flow rate (${\sigma}$) for the original shape of flow skirt was smaller, than that for the modified shape of flow skirt. This means that the original shape of the flow skirt may give a more uniform distribution of mass flow rate at the core inlet plane, which may be more desirable for the core cooling.

  • Many innovative design features are employed in the reactor vessel internals of SMART, a small integral-type pressurized water reactor, one of which is the flow skirt, which uniformly distributes flow and horizontally restrains the lower part of the core support barrel. This new design requires a comprehensive investigation of vibration characteristics. Therefore, in this study, modal characteristics of flow skirts are investigated with finite element analysis. Specifically, we investigate how the presence of holes, the presence of three rings attached to the flow skirt, and the thickness of the lowest shell effect vibration characteristics. In addition, the fluid effect is addressed, since the flow skirt is submerged in the fluid.

  • This paper reports on the dynamics and friction characteristics of piston skirt with consideration of mixed lubrication. Piston skirt is an important part of the engine that transforms fuel into mechanical energy. The durability and low friction characteristics are important recent issues in piston skirt design. In this paper, the piston skirt motion is analyzed with consideration of mixed lubrication and piston skirt tilting motion. The entire trajectory of piston motion is obtained by using transient numerical method. Also various parameter studies are performed for piston skirt design and the development of lower frictional engine.

  • The high-speed wind tunnel test of rocket model was performed to investigate the effect of skirt configuration on aerodynamic load characteristics of nozzle. Test parameters were the length and diffusing angle of skirt. Test results showed that the gimbals actuator power could be reduced to 1/10 of that without skirt. The normalized test result was proposed to be used as database for skirt design.

  • There have been many attempts to reduce the cost of transportation. Especially, drag reduction of heavy vehicles has enormous influence on energy saving by reducing the driving power of the vehicles. In this study, the effects of drag-reducing additive devices such as side skirt, boat tail and cab-roof fairing on the drag reduction of a 5 ton truck model were experimentally investigated. The aerodynamic performance of these flow-control devices attached to heavy vehicle was evaluated through wind tunnel test. In addition, flow patterns around the truck model were visualized by using smoke tube method. The drag coefficient is reduced by up to 5.7%, 7.16% and 22.2% by the side skirt, boat tail and cab-roof fairing, respectively. The interactive effect of the side skirt and boat tail was also investigated.

  • The purpose of this study is to find how to be formed the wet film thickness during the low friction coating process for a piston skirt with application to the theory of screen printing. In other words, in this research, it is to derive the general expressions predicting the pressure under a blade and the volume of coating fluid passing through the blade edge. Using these expressions, it is to be approved that the current operation characteristics of a screen printing system to a sample blade coating process for low friction coating on a piston skirt can be quantitatively assessed.

  • Male skirt is found in traditional costumes all over the world. Due to the development of tailoring skills in the early Middle ages, men started wearing breeches and pantaloons gradually distinguishing the different characteristics of menswear and womenswear. Since then, skirt became the strong representation of the female gender, symbolizing the feminism. However, under the influences of technological development and diversification in 2000s, gender identity has been diversely expressed in modern fashion allowing male gender to embrace different sexual identities. The purpose of the study is to analyze the nature of male skirts, which have been popularized in modern men's fashion through both the expressional elements and compositional elements. This study associates design elements of male skirt, gradually appearing in the contemporary men's fashion with the sexual symbolism and reinterpreted it's significance in the flow of the modern fashion. Reinterpretation of the gender image in costumes are considered to contribute to the cultural context and extension in diversity. These research results forms a basic foundation to expand in studies of men's fashion design and gender image of costumes through cultural contexts and it's changes. It is considered that this can lay groundwork to make various attempts at passing over the archetype of the gender image besides the continuous appearance of male skirt in the field of fashion design.

  • Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles Vol. 18, No. 3 (1994) p. 387∼394 In this study, the restriction of slacks (blue jean) versus box pleats skirt was investigated, from the view point of peripheral blood flow at the toe according to motion variation and E.M.G. analysis of leg muscles after walking on the flat or going up and down stairways. Besides, the pressure of slacks on the lower extrimity was measured statically and dynamically. The main results were summerized as follows; 1. The clothing pressure applied by slacks was; each one of thigh and lower leg was 18.2 g/ cm2 and 22.1 g/cm2 in upright, 63.4 g/cm2 and 26.6 g/cm2 in sitting on the chair, on both sides of thigh and lower leg 272.0 g/cm2 over in squatting. 2. When the motion starts from upright, the dynamic clothing pressure reach their peak before the motions end. When the motion ends and the body comes to a still condition, the clothing pressure grow lower and indicate a constant value. but when the body starts moving again to return to upright, the pressures once grow higher and go to zero value after reaching the peak. The pressure on the knee show much greater than those on the hip. This can be because these pressures depend on the degree of skin stretching motion and of its curvature. 3. The surface E.M.G. in leg muscles M. rectus femoris and M. gastrocnemius were recoreded. In the case of wearing slacks, two muscles were activated much more than wearing skirt. 4. The peripheral blood flow at the toe by wearing slacks was lower than wearing skirt. Also the case when squatting, the peripheral blood flow at the toe was low.

  • High-efficient HEV Engine cooling systems reflects variable coolant temperature because it can decrease the hydrodynamic frictional losses of lubricated engine parts in light duty conditions. In order to safely raise the operating temperature of passenger cars to a constant higher level, and thus optimize combustion and all accompanying factors, a new thermostat technology was developed : the electronically map-controlled thermostat. In this work, various crystalline plastics such as polyphthalamide (PPA) and polyphenylenesulfide (PPS) mixed with various glass fiber amounts were introduced into plastic fittings of automotive electronic controlled thermostat for the purpose of suppressing influx of coolant into the element and undesirable opening during hot soaking. Skirt was installed around element frame of automotive electronic controlled thermostat for improving thermal sensitivity in terms of response time, hysteresis and melting temperature. To validate the effectiveness and optimum shape of skirt, thermal sensitivity test and three-dimensional CFD simulation have been performed. As a consequence, important improvement in thermal sensitivity with less than 3℃ of maximum coolant temperature between opening and engine inlet was obtained.
