A Sea breeze front (SBF) appears clear particularly if there is opposing wind, and the convergence zone along a SBF affects air quality in coastal areas. This study analyzes features of SBF separation in the presence of an opposing flow in the southeastern coastal area of Korea Peninsula. Using a Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS) numerical simulation and an opposing flow, two types of SBF were observed at Masan coastal area of Korea. In one, the SBF penetrated inland despite of the opposing flow at Jinhae (1100 LST), Wondong (1700 LST), Saenglim (1700 LST), and Miryang (1700 LST). In the other, the SBF remained on the coastline along with Jinhae (1100 LST), Masan (1400 LST), Jinbuk (1400 LST), and Gaecheon (1700 LST), because the inflow of the sea breeze was not sufficient to penetrate inland against the opposing flow. This study shows that SBFs are affected by the formation of an opposing flow, as well as the inflows of a sea breeze and the opposing flow.
Numerical investigation has been made on the stent design to minimize the neointimal hyperplasia. Computational fluid dynamics is applied to investigate the flow distributions in the immediate vicinity of the given idealized stent implanted in the blood vessel. Parametric study on the variations of the number of stouts, stent diameters, stent spacings and Reynolds numbers has been conducted using axi-symmetric Navier-Stokes equations. An initial difficulty in the study is to determine the optimal stent design to understand the flow physics of the flow disturbance induced by stent. The size of recirculation zone around stent is depend on the stent diameter, number of stent wire and Reynolds number but is insensitive to the stent wire spacing. It is also found that when the flow is in acceleration, the flow sees a more favorable pressure gradient, and the separation zones are smaller than the steady flow case. When the flow is in deceleration and the flow sees a more adverse pressure gradient so that the separation zones are larger.
Effects of a length-to-diameter ratio, L/D, on the three-dimensional flow and aerodynamic loss within an injection hole, which is normally oriented to the mainflow, have been investigated by using a straight five-hole probe. The length-to-diameter ratio of the injection hole is varied to be 0.5 and 2.0 for blowing ratios of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. Regardless of the blowing ratio, flows within the hole and at the jet exit are strongly affected by the length-to-diameter ratio. In the case of L/D=0.5, the inside flow is considerably influenced by the mainflow, and the exit flow variation is found to be the greatest. The aerodynamic loss in this case is usually attributed to jet -mainflow interactions. In the case of L/D=2.0, the flow separation and reattachment in the inlet region are completely separated from the complicated exit flow, and the aerodynamic-loss production is mainly due to the inlet flow separation.
Hydrodynamic field alteration around a cylindrical pier using a curved vane is numerically investigated. The curved vane with various angles ranged from 10 to 220 degree is placed at the upstream of the cylindrical pier. Laminar flow is adopted in order to perform the steady-state analysis. It is found that the flow separation leads to the formation of four bubbles depending on the value of the curved vane angle. Two bubbles are located in the region between the rear of the curved vane and the leading surface of the cylindrical pier, while the remaining two bubbles are located at the wake zone behind the cylindrical pier. Numerical analysis is performed to reveal the hydrodynamic field and influence of curved vane on the formation and evolution of the bubbles. It is found that the center and size of the bubble depend mainly on the value of the curved vane angle. It is observed that the flow velocity vector shows clearly the alteration in the flow velocity direction especially at the leading surface and rear surface of the curved vane owing to the occurrence of flow separation and flow dissipation along the circumference of the vane.

Fundamental studies on the drag reduction of the circular cylinder having dimple were conducted by the measurement of the fluid force acting on the cylinder and by the flow visualization around the cylinder. The drag coefficients were changed by the shape and the geometrical arrangement of the dimple. The drag of the cylinder was reduced about 25% by the proper arrangement of the dimple. The flow field around the cylinder having dimple, which was the minimum drag, was visualized by the hydrogen bubble technique. In this case, the separation points were moved rearward and the wake region was small in comparison with that of the cylinder having no dimple.
A channel flow with a high Reynolds number but coarse grids is numerically studied to investigate the prediction possibility of its turbulence which is three-dimensional and time-dependent. In the present paper, a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) model, a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and a Navier-Stokes equation with no model are tested with a new approach of hybrid RANS/LES, which reduces to RANS model in the boundary layers and at separation, and to Smagorinsky-like LES downstream of separation, and then compared with each other. It is found that the simulations of hybrid RANS/LES method sustain turbulence like those of LES and with no model, and the results are stable and fairly accurate. This indicates strongly that gradual improvements could lead to a simple, stable, and accurate approach to predict turbulence phenomena of wall-bounded flow.
In the present work, we have interests on the modification of parallel implemented with MPI(Message Passing Interface) programming method, 3-Dimensional, unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes equation solver to analyze the low-Reynolds number flow In order to accurate calculation aerodynamic coefficients in low-Reynolds number flow field, we modified the two-equation turbulence model. This paper describes the development and validation of a new two-equation model for the prediction of flow transition. It is based on Mentor's low Reynolds $\kappa-\omega$ model with modifications to include Total Stresses Limitation (TSL) and Separation Transition Trigger (STT)
